The Queen Mom has been an icon for decades and I for one loved her dearly. She made England a land to love and admire. She will be dearly missed by the world and I dare say her funeral shall be the most eleborate of all time. God Save the Queen!!

Why The Queen Mum Is Such A Big Deal
by Englishman ina few people have asked me why the death of the queens mother is such a big deal, so here goes:.
in 1937, our king was edward the 8th.
he was the eldest son of george the 5th, and, on georges death, he automatically became king.

How did I get away with it??
by home_and_dry inthe more i read on this board, the more it makes me wonder how on earth i managed to escape the jw's without being df'd.
i was baptized in 1990 aged 15. i was df'd in 1991 and was reinstated after only 2 months 'out' and a further 3 months of returning to the meetings.. two years after being reinstated, i knew i wanted out but couldn't bear the thought of being df'd again.
so i found a flat to rent and moved out of my jw parents home.

Yes you are very lucky, that you have not been dfed.
I was instantly disfellowshipped, I left my ex husband on the 24 of December and was disfellowshipped 2 1/2 weeks later. I never spoke to a single elder they send me a letter via my ex and asked me to meet with them immediatley and I wrote a letter to the best elder in our hall and i told him it will not change a thing and I respectfuly declined his invitation to appear before the J.C., I am told via my sister who was in another cong. that I had seven days to appeal. I thought appeal what? I never went in the first place so I didn't think I had to appeal anything. I told my sister I don't intend on appealing. So 7 days passed, during which I recieved a short note from this elder that they were eager to meet with me to discuss the circumstances of my leaving the organization and my ex. I again wrote a short note back and told him that I had made myself clear in my first letter that I will respectfully decline their invitation to meet with them.
The only details they ever recieved were from my ex as to why I left and from my sister when I told her I had committed adultery on purpose to get out of the marriage. She told me it was now her responsibility to onform the brothers of my sin. I told her do what you must but I will never will be back again.
And since that time I have heard hide nor hair of my family.
The only details supplied to the elderes are what I told her and John the ex filled in the blanks according to John. They knew my marriage was a terrible one, I spoke with the elders for assistance on several occaisons. I cried taking to them in the past they never asked me why I was crying. Because they knew what John was like. Well I don;t care anymore the only remorse I feel is the hurt I caused my 23 yr old son and he is my darling son who has stood by me from day one. I am one lucky mom. As I have mentioned on numerous occasions in the past I could write volumes of my life as a JW. Well now that I have blown off some steam I will part by saying once again, you are one lucky person who didn't feel the iron arm of the WTBS. -

Is this how we want to be perceived?
by Joyzabel inthis quote is from someone who lurks on jwd!
sorry for the long email, but this has been therapeutic and i just may post this on the db one day.

I agree with Amazing, hostility has somewhat abated. Especially since the Robert Bryant family story broke. No one I believe intends to be mean, but some have had only bad experiences while in the org. And yes the organization has some explaining to do.
We all want to be heard and say our bit. I think some here get their dander up, because they don't know the full story or they are really angry because of the injustices of the WTBS. Whatever reasons there are for appearing mean and cruel, some have put a protective fortress around themselves and don't intend for anyone to enter their domain. Please and speaking for myself being kind and civil is far better than outrage and meaness. You get more flies with honey than vinegar.
Lets make it our resolve to be nicer to one another.Hind sight is 20/20

jw schools?
by one inin the past i wondered why the wt did not promoted or operated prvate jw schools to keep children (their source of membership) out of the "world".. also it was/is frustrating for some parents no being able to send their children to private schools, their are mostly operated by religious organizations in many places.
i was pulled out of private schools after failed attempts to get exemption from attending the religious services at the school.
i remember going to the bath room or somewhere else and statying there until the "service" was over, scared to death...

That is cute mouthy.
Actually during the WW 2 senerio, jehovah's witnesses did have their own schools, however after the ban in Canada was over, they returned their children to regular schools. I guess they felt it was necessary for kids to be integrated into this wicked system of things to safe all that the can. You apparently can't always shelter your children. -

#*&)^%*!!!!!! I'm in the mood to kill.
by LoneWolf inand if you read some snarls in between those words, you don't know the half of it.. my wife asked me to go to the memorial last night, and i decided to go if for no other reason than to keep tabs on what's going on.
those who know my story know that my situation is unusual.. just before we left she came to me privately and said that she had something to tell me before i heard it from anyone else.
she knows exactly how i feel about the society, and was scared as to my reaction, and i don't blame her: there's hell to pay.. jeff strebe committed suicide the night before.

How terribly devastating. What on earth is happening to people in the organization? Lone Wolf sometimes there is no answers as to why people do what they do. It must be truly horrible for yet another family. I cannot believe how heartless the congregation was after the family left the kingdom hall.
Where on earth are their scrupples. This dear family needs all the support they can get. Please wish the family my condolences.
And here is a *hug* for you and your family. -

2nd half of interview with Sharon Roe
by seven006 inthis came out in todays issue of the news register.
it is the second half of a two hour two part interview.. http://204.200.26.244/news/story.cfm?story_no=147722.
sharon roe does not know why her brother-in-law, robert bryant, reached a place so dark he felt compelled to murder his children and wife in their beds before putting a shotgun to his chin and pulling the trigger.

This whole sitution is unbelievable. How terribly sad a story it is. My heart aches each time I read a posting here about this dear family. And Sharon's heart must be aching badly, having to deal with the families death and the media as well. They may really never know what sent Robert over the edge. Some tragedies are not explainable. If the reasons were because he could not support his family. I believe as many have already expressed, that being raised as a JW you were not considered mature if you sought out a better education of higher learning.
I am trying to rationalize that in my mind, but then I say to myself that in the org. there are doctors lawyers and they reside in the Bethel. Well where the hell did they get their degrees if they hadn't pursuded a higher education. Why should it be alright for some to have a higher education and others not. To me it boils down to two sets of standards. If it is advantageous for the WT Society to have someone that is a doctor or a lawyer then why can't other JW be allowed to pursue what they want to do in their private lives. It is deplorable that some witness families live in poverty while others prosper. I know darn well that some of these doctors and lawyers who live and work at Bethel were given the same counsel us the rest of us.
So whats up? Double standards. If Robert had had a betther paying job maybe he would not have felt desperate.
And then Robert felt he was of the anointed. God can call anyone at anytime to be of the anointed. May be the fact that he was mocked was humilation he could not endure. So many questions but very few answers. Dave thank you for keeping us up to date on this. If you are talking to Sharon give her my love.
Thank God that God is our judge and not men. -

Are Demons still roaming the bedrooms at Bethel?
by Tanalyst ina couple decades ago a bro.
tells me an experience that he says i must keep top secret.. one of his roomates (he lived in a 4 man bedroom) at nite while in bed would see this green form in the likeness of a man in the room.
if my memory serves me right, another roomate also saw it, some days later.. so my friend asks all the roomates if any received anything religious from anyone.the 1st guy to report these demons remembered he recently had received a letter with some religious pictures.
