could someone post the details of when and where this policy became official and the exact wording of said policy?
also, there was a jr brown quote from 6 months ago or so to the effect that, "we may have had problems with our policy in the past (like many other religions), but we now have an aggresive policy to protect the congregation from pedophiles", or substance thereof.

by Simon inthe "please be seated" post rememded me of our experiences at the last district assemblies we attended.. it was in the nynex / manchester evening news arena and it was hot ... damn hot.
they were obviously being 'cheap' and not paying for the air conditioning to be turned on.. liam was a baby and was becoming unwell because of the heat.
he was overheating badly which is pretty dangerous at that age so we stripped him off and took him out up the steps to the concourse.

Back in 1991/92 Summer Assembly in Toronto at Maple Leaf Gardens was the hotest assembly we ever attended in 30 yrs plus. It was so hot you got in the gardens and the temperature was stiffling. You couldn't breath, We stayed in the Carlton hotel attached to the then Maple Leaf Gardens. I think I ran back and forth to our room to change my underwear and clothes several times during the day as within minutes your clothes were soaked through and through and that is no exageration. Does anyone from the Toronto area and district remember that summer assembly? Boy what torture. I felt real sorry for the ill and infirm and elderly who so willingly sat during that unbearable heat. It was one of Toronto"s worst heatwaves. Ah yes those were the days. I must have had sawdust in my brains back then.
Oh well live and learn. And yes the attendants were the worse, you think that they would shut up so you could hear the program, well no way, they were always so rude and inconsiderate. My ex husband never sat down during any assemblies, he was a wanderer and did more yapping and gossipping at assemblies. I use to tell him he was rude but he never listened to me anyway. Oh well , I am wiser now.

JW Kids - More Frightened Than Most?
by Englishman inive recently been in contact with a couple of ex-jws that i knew in my childhood.. what has surfaced is the amount of fear that we experienced as young children when we were involved with the witnesses.
i accept that children often do develop irrational fears as part of growing up, but what i am talking about here is a deep-seated fear of being harmed.. many young children that i grew up with in the witness religion were of an unusually nervous disposition.
i recall how when i was first taken to meetings that i found the whole experience somewhat sinister and strange.

Elders--"untrained volunteers" or CLE...
by LDH inlet's see how long the wbts can continue to waffle on this issue.... telling their members that the elders are "appointed by god" and yet when they make a mistake, claiming that they are merely "untrained volunteers.".
i have never known exactly how "elders" are chosen and what the process is when a recommendation goes to brooklyn.
all i've ever heard is "the gb prays over the issue.

Xander; I totally agree with your comments. The society uses the clergy thing when they feel that they need to or when in a court of law. Yet at other times they are just untrainted volunteers. And I am a firm believer that if you have wealth in the congregation you are generally an elder. Does money talk or what? I have seen some elders throw their weight around. When my father was presiding overseer and he was in the hospital dying he was in intensive care and several elders came to see him and claimed to be his brother and so the nurses would let them come to see my dad. The nurses thought if strange that my dad had so many brothers and they spoke to my mother and my mother went ballistic and said that they were not his brothers and not to let any in to see him as he slipped into a coma.
My mothers was so furious and she didn't pull any punches with the elders. My father remained in a coma until his death. And other elder and his wife wouldn't leave when the doctor wanted to talk to us privately. I was so pissed off. They are so rude and intrusive. And when my mom and I went to make funeral arrangements at the funeral home another elder just sat himself down while my mom and I did the arrangements and we didn't ask him to even come into the palour, he just pushed his way in. Yes they the elders are whatever they want to be whenever it is suitable for them. -

I think that the greatest thing that irrates me is, the WTS has dissfellowshipped all those who are involved with the up coming of the Dateline expose and now the Society will warn the congregations not to watch it, because the apostates are trying to lie about Jehovah'w Witnesses. That sickens me, the WTS wants to keep lying to the congregations and tells them that they are weeding out those who are causing divisions in the congregations. No nevermind the coverups of the abuse and molestion of children, they just don't think get it. In one breathe they say to obey the laws of the land pay back Ceasers things to Ceaser, but God forbid they take that law and twist it to mean something else,for their convinence. The Law is pedophiles are criminals. Why doesn't the WTBS see that.
So I am hoping that all of you who were or are abused in anyway, never ever remain silent but expose the deceptions covered up by a religion that says its the Truth. -

Wishing you peace and contentment as you venture into a new path of your life and that of your family.
How much I have learned about the Society since I have left has been a real awakening. Sadly I spent most of my years bound up in the orgainzation. I guess at the time I thought it was the right path, but now with all the enlightenment I've learned it has caused me to feel that I was cheated out of so many things in life. Well now I intent to live my live to the fullest and I don't regret for one minute leaving the WTBS. I hope you enjoy your freedom from oppression and may you have a wonderful life.
