I'd travel to Ohio where I have some friends and take them out to eat. Then to the nearest Lexus dealer and buy them a new car. Then arrange a trip with them to some South Seas Island where we could enjoy a few island drinks and lay around the pool.
The balance I would send to NY as a contribution to the work! Wait a minute, there is nothing left, I spent it all! Oh well, maybe next time.

elders are supposed to be loving, caring shepherds.
when a problem arises, elders are supposed to be there.
visiting in homes was something the organization always stressed.
A Brother made a shepherding call at my place of business and reminded me I was not following the Bible's instruction to 'not forsake the gathering of ourselves together' by my missing several meetings in a row.
I told him he was not following the Bible either! How so, he asked! I said to him, "When was the last time you greeted the Brothers with a holy 'kiss', which the Bible said we should do!
He left!
Did I enjoy shepherding calls? Yes, when I made them, as it was an easier way of getting in time than regular door knocking! And they might offer you a doughnut on top of it! I never gave anyone a hard time though, it was a doughnut thing!

to mark this weekend's district convention in sydney, australia, we are asked to cast our minds back in time and remember those district convention days with a certain nostalgia.
so, are you ready to begin that walk down memory lane?
settle back with a cuppa with me and reflect awhile.
I quite often attended the conventions held at the stadium on the campus of Notra Dame College in South Bend, Indiana.
At lunch break I would go accross the street to the college cafeteria and have lunch with the Nuns. The food was much better and just as cheap. No Shasta Cola and 'Hockey Puck' Burritos there! The air-conditioning was great too!
Then I would usually take a stroll around campus and look at stuff, a nice shady walk with lots of trees etc. and also check on my car parked a long way from the assembly site so that I didn't have to pay Watchtower parking ( I was an Elder at the time)!
I always stayed at the best hotels in town (usually ones not on the approved list) which made the evenings much more enjoyable. Not so many JW's there.
I would like to see The Society try and arrange 8 day assemblies again, from 9 in the morning to 9 at night and see how many would attend these days! Not me, by-the-way!

i just got an email about marilyn z. she will be having bypass surgery this morning at 11:45 (ct)she thought she was going in for angioplasty, but they discovered that she has 4 arteries with 90% blockage.
i'll keep everyone posted.

the very theological basis of the religion is a fluid dynamic that can change with the wind to suit the convenience of the gb.
ultimately, the rank & file jw picks up on this and extends rationalization to its limits.
When I was in a hurry to get someplace in my everyday life, I could hardly get through the traffic and stop lights. It seemed like it took forever to get to the other side of town.
However, out in service, I could go from one end of the county to the other in just 5 minutes taking my sweet old time. Was this an illusion, or how could that be?
