how sad.
i've just heard that the girls died due to uncontrolled bleeding.
only 29, both attorneys (in iran!!!
Very depressing. When we read about so many successful separation surgey's it just seemed like this one should come off w/o a hitch. The picture of these bright young women on the news, so excited and full of plans for a new life, now it's just too sad to see that photo .
I wonder does anyone know if any type of embryo procedures are being done to separate twins before they are born. I know they can do heart surgery so why not this?
just wondering how many people here feel that the seat belt law is mandatory for safe motoring.
i can't stand this law myself as if you only forget to put one on the police are happy to pull you over and detain you and write you a ticket.
this is one of those things that i think if there were a public vote over, it would not exist .
Don't the insurance companies really love it when folks don't buckle up.
"Oh you didn't have your seat belt on! Well no benefits for you!" they say as you are wheeled into the OR. I live in a very rural community and pretty much no one over 40 buckles up. What does that mean ???

I live near a prison and so have many friends employed there. I've been told that the expressing of bodily fluids has been a crime since the first transmission from inmate to guard nearly 20 yrs ago. Although the guards tell me that the infection would come about only through broken skin. Hep-C is also a big problem.
i've only learned the truth about this society over the last 5 months or so, so i'm not sure what the difference is to say - 2 years ago.
do you think the society will now get even more cultish in it's methods of teaching and more heavy handed if they feel things are slipping?
i don't feel i'm being over the top here because i've experienced very heavy handed talks at the assemblies and kingdom hall in the past that are just plain scare tactics but this just makes people ask more questions ??
I think you'll appreciate this story.
A few months ago an old friend who is still a dub, sent me an email. She asked if I would be her friend again? I told her I'd never stopped being her friend. Then I realized HEY...she didn't even have an email address 5 yrs ago when I left! Now we email. talk on the phone etc. She is fading away because of her grandkids etc. BUT the families are shunning her anyway because she's inactive!!!! EVIL BEASTS
I asked if she'd gotten onto any x-dub web pages. She had! In fact this one! Ya'll have helped these 2 old friends get back together
The internet will open up the world to jws and other cult members. Unfortunately there are still those who don't have access and will succomb.
Brummie, Is it just me or does that kitten look like General Hammond?
elaine pagel's recent work beyond belief, the secret gospel of thomas gives some excellent examples of questioning what we have been taught and looking into all of the interesting historically "hidden" books of christianity.
i especially appreciated her explanations of why so many interesting writings never made it into the sanctioned bible.. what i got from this book was that power is/was the road to acceptance.
the leaders of the church who were accepted by the emperor (read that as constantine) got to manipulate the holy writings into their own form.

Yes I think that point was very clear. And it always boils down to power. Constantine wanted to unite his many peoples so how about using some blue collar religion AND elevate it to white color (and throne).
"Yes I may be the great emperor but I serve god too... see I've got a cross and had a vision" It just sounds so obvious but he did pull it off, didn't he...
Something else you probably noticed was along the spiritual lines you already mentioned. That Pagels brings in the Jewish mystics and the kabbahlah, which ask for guidance by spirit and trance. To walk with god in heaven while still alive. Like John, to have visions which defy explanation to any who didn't have this vision. As with Paul too, the visions were always deeply personal in nature.
Now if the early christians thought that they could get this w/o a priesthood well, Iraeneus ,Athenaseus and the rest had a real problem on how to unite these "mystic" christians into the law abiding church goers who were needed to prove their (Irenaeus, ad nauseum) legitimate positions.
And what about those notes! A 185 pg book with 35 pages of notes!
this topic has been stolen by me from another site.
it's too good not to post though!.
it's about stonehenge's origins.
How amazing .... is it a calculator? Opening to the nether world? Or a vagina? now that's the kind of multiple choice question I like!
Of course this "new" idea fits in well with many ancient (prehistoric) european studies. The so called shaman's were actually just used for their procreative abilities. The priestess(witches) made sure everyone had the chance to create life during the season. Of course the Christians changed all that
examples of hate speech
"there is a huge gap between us (jews) and our enemies not just in ability but in morality, culture, sanctity of life, and conscience.
they are our neighbors here, but it seems as if at a distance of a few hundred meters away, there are people who do not belong to our continent, to our world, but actually belong to a different galaxy.
This is an interesting thread. Do you think that maybe Americans do fully understand the controlling of American media by Israel? If you push the point a bit in conversation you may be surprized by the answer. Amazingly, it is the Christian right which wholly supports Israels claims. But then again the Palestinians have twice turned down the 1967 land options. Ever since Arafat had his brain injury he hasn't been even looking for a peaceful solution.
And who gets blamed for the un-peace? Not the muslims but the Israelis ? Isn't it obvious that bombing and bulldozing won't solve the problem? People hating people is just what the Syrians and Saudi Arabs want! Sure and they will even give money to the assassins families to get the butchering done. Sept 11 was fully subsidized by Saudi money.
The comment about the people in the old testament is a bit over the top though because most of the battle history was in fact written much later probably after Babylonian exile, so the writers needed to give their nation some good conquerers stories. Be that as it may be, where have the Saudis been while their brother muslims have been suffering? The Jordanians said no refugees, Saudis said no refugees... I think that the "homicide" bombers are going in the wrong direction.
So who controls America? I say Big money and Big Business. Is there a way to use these to the advantages of peace. I think the free market economy within the global markets will continue to push toward peace and democracy. That means that Saudi Arabia (the Saudi family) will eventually have to go. I think that Iraq was just the first piece in helping the middle east toward democracy.
BTW at least you had to hunt for the hate speech... not so for the Arab hate speech..heck Palestinians are not ashamed to say they hate Israelis. But it seems Israelis realize that hate mongering just might not be acceptable to those Americans they are "controlling".
may you all have peace!
i find it funny... as in peculiar... that from adam until today... "we"... get our kicks blaming god.
starting with adam, who said, "the woman... that you gave me... she... made me... eat," we have this penchant to look everywhere but in the mirror.
Well, well, well. Please tell me that yah'll are just foolin' around, messin' with each others heads right?
Haven't recent studies and journals shown that the Bible was written by human beings? We know this, yet there appears to be a need to hold onto the superstitious belief system thrown at us since childhood. Intellectually we need pessimism. I won't hate you or judge you for your belief. I even respect you for letting us know about the voices. I respect that long ago heroine of immolation Joan of Arc, for her courage in saving the French from the Brits (although this may not be so popular this year).
I read a quote from someone on this forum yesterday. It went something like this "I respect the man who searches for truth, I regret the one who has found it." that's not the exact quote but it's close. I thought "how darn socratic!" Stuff like that gives me hope.
And for anyone who considers themselves Christian and christ-like, isn't religion a periferal consideration while we live in a world where only 2% of global households have a refrigerator and a telephone? How about the latest in plagues? Or droughts? Or famines? Nope I don't blame god, I don't blame anyone, that'd be a waste of time. We are, however co-spectators of every atrocity or plague we read about or see pictures showing devastation around the Earth. Our will should shove us towards optimism and action, you know save the world one person at a time.
Actually, we might blame the "selfish gene" the dna which has built us to house itself. Yep, we're all just carriers of the gene's message. HEY wait a minute...where was that voice coming from????????
