I believe this is in large part because the Federal Reserve and Treasury dept. have been pumping it up with fake money--you may disagree. With the DOW and S&P near record highs, I'm torn If I should pull out or stay put. What are your thoughts on investing at this point? Hold-em or fold-em?

What are you investing in these days, and what you've found successful or not in this brave new investing world, where good fundamentals don't really exist? I've recently started doing target date ETF's, and they have performed fairly well 3-6% monthly gains. I'm concerned that another crash like 08 may be just around the corner though.

Are Western values compatible with Christian values?

i was going to say judaism, christianity, and islam but since i know little of judaism and islam so i decided to stick primarily with christianity.

i have found myself thinking that the values preached in the bible are not compatible with western (ie american) values.

however, it all seems to depend on who you really talk to and what he or she believes.. for example, the jehovah's witnesses preach a lot about how women are suppose to be submissive to men and yet at the same time preach how this does not mean that women are suppose to be seen as inferior to men.

I would say that the idea of freedom is completely incompatible with Christian values of being a slave, and being in fear of the lord.

The bible (Jesus et all) taught that we're supposed to just wait on god to provide for us, and put up with the injustices (slavery etc..) or whatever sub-par thing exists in the present. This philosophy is not compatible with western philosophy. Western lands are places of opportunity. There are many stories of people coming from complete poverty and making it big, because they were willing to apply themselves, and work hard at a dream of bettering themselves, and most importantly reject this silly notion of waiting on god to provide -- Matt 6:33, when clearly his record stinks badly in that regard.

"there is a 14 percent greater probability that a person over 60 years of age will die on his birthday rather than on other days.".

wow, they have now proven that birthdays are pagan and not fit for christians!.

These fuck3rs will not be content until they suck every last bit of joy from peoples lives. This is one of things that I slowly came to realize, how could anyone want this for eternity in paradise hell? I can't help but think of that picture in the recent watchtower of dubs at the beach...khaki pants at the beach it's fun right?

Maybe WT should just outlaw fun. That way no one will ever die.

They have "top men" working on this problem as we speak.

My question is who would even be dumb enough to commission such a silly study? Couldn't the same could be said of any celebration like the memorial? I do recall having a lot of stress at those awkward memorials and there was alchohol there...

Interesting topic. You would think with all the exorcisms that the Catholic church has supposedly performed that there would be some solid video evidence available. I've always wondered why the JW's never saw the need to continue the practice that may have been done by the first century apostles. With all that god and the demons want from us, perhaps they could do a better job of showing that they are real.

i have a good friend who is a muslim, i think all religions are a joke to some degree ... in that they take themselves so serious.

however, i have to ask, why in modern history are the acts of terror that shake the world carried out by muslims so much?

i ask this, as there has got to be something in the teaching that needs to be changed.

You're spot on in your thinking.

I believe the "why" is mainly because the Qu'ran and other holy books contain many confusing and mixed messages, that are subect to interpretation just like the bible. Many of the versus don't attribute the vengance part to god but rather to the follower; this is a big difference from the bible IMHO, and an awful object lesson for any religion to teach.

It's passages like these below (there are hundreds more like it) coupled with zealous types (e.g. Muslim versions of elders and Pioneers) is going to continue to be used as tool to brainwash people, and create terrorists.

Quran (2:191-193) - "And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution [of Muslims] is worse than slaughter [of non-believers]... but if they desist, then lo! Allah is forgiving and merciful. And fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is for Allah."

Quran (8:57) - "If thou comest on them in the war, deal with them so as to strike fear in those who are behind them, that haply they may remember."

Quran (9:14) - "Fight them, Allah will punish them by your hands and bring them to disgrace..."

Quran (9:123) - "O you who believe! fight those of the unbelievers who are near to you and let them find in you hardness."

Bukhari (52:220) - Allah's Apostle said... 'I have been made victorious with terror'

Bukhari (52:177) - Allah's Apostle said, "The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say. "O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him."

'1600 years of Ice melting in 25 years is a bad omen'

glaciologists from ohio state university have been studying the ice fields in peru.

tropical peru is home to ice formations 18,000 feet up in the quelccaya region, the largest of these tropical region ice sheets.. the glacier is melting so quickly that plant samples are having to be frozen artifically so that scientists 30 years from now can have something to study, lonnie thompson from the university said in the interview.

the ice field is the smallest it has been since the last ice age.. peruvians rely on the water from the glaciers, which will be reduced by 50% in their lifetime.
