  What Scriptural Support Is There For Believing in Second/Greater Fulfillments of Bible Prophecy?

  what scriptural support is there for believing in second/greater fulfillments of bible prophecy?.

  this is a genuine equiry into where the idea of second/greater fulfillments of bible prophecy originated.

  does it have definite scriptural support or is it simply an extra-biblical religious device thought up to try to make prophecies appear relevant to the modern age?

  The prophecies applying to Christ thingy was picked up in a big way later by the writer of the gospel of Matthew.

  But were any of these seen as 2nd fulfillments ? I don't think so, they were seen as ponting to Christ, he fulfilled them, end of.

  I still see no precedent in the Bible for a 2nd fulfillment, yes taking a biblical "type" is common, the tabernacle for instance, but again , only one fulfillment, not a greater one to follow.

  I may be wrong, but I would need a good solid example of a minor fulfillment of a prophecy and then a 2nd or greater to say there is a precedent, and I cannot recall one.

  If there is not, all the WT interpretations using this method become even more shaky than they appeared.

  Very interesting case Banga, thanks for posting. Here in the U.K we do not have a Constitution that would automaticaaly preclude the act of shunning from being tortious.

  We do however have the Human Rights Act and European legislation which may give the same protection to religions that shun like the WT, I suppose a route that one could go down would be to sue individual JW's for their action, but they may still be protected by the law, I don't know.

  I wonder too, if in English law there is any reason why a Court should not rule on the truthfullness of a doctrine, in the U.S this is impossible, but if it were possible here in the U.K it would be good to see the Blood doctrine demolished by law, followed by the shunning doctrine.

  this is a sugestion i have to all members of this board ,members from all over the world, to let the victorian government in australia know that the world is concerned about protecting the children of victoria ,and theirby setting a precedent for the rest of the world, who are interested in the outcome of the criminal charges against the religion of jehovah`s witnesses in refusing to abide by the legislation to get "working with children checks"when required to do so.correct me if i`m wrong but i think if all of us sent letters to the newspapers here in australia ,the different members of parliment here,we would demonstate that the victorian judicial system here is under scrutiny to do the right thing in the eyes of the world.. we all complain that the wtb&ts/jehovahs witnesses is a cult religion that sucks,destroying family relationships,here is a chance to do something about it.

  whether you agree with steven unthank or not,here is an opportunity to stick up for the children of jehovah`s witnesses and every other child that a witness calls on in their door to door ministry.. what do you think ?.

  Murdering someone because of burning a book of doubtful provenance has happened before, it is totally dark ages mentality, in other words based on ignorance.

  I do hope that education is brought to those who ignorantly believe that a book written by men is to be treated in that way,that any single place on earth is "Sacred", of course a lot of that education needs to get through to a huge percentage of Americans and others in the West who still believe in gods and spirits and ghosts etc.

  A lot of people on Earth need dragging into the 21st Century.

  Neither of those scriptures are justification for the second/Greater Fulfilment idea in any way.

  The "by extension" method of exegesis is one that really means "this scripture says what I say it says", which just sums up the WT method.

  I do not think there is anything in the Bible that gives justification for a 2nd fulfillment.

  I wonder if people of the Muslim faith who have a similar experience "see" The Prophet Muhammad and people of the Hindu faith "see" Vishnu or one of their gods and if it happened to me I would "see" the Flying Spagetti Monster ?

  I would lay money that all these experiences are closely linked to a persons cultural and religious background.

  Marvellous experience to have though, it must change you no end.

  The J W worldview, that things are getting worse, and the world is a terrible place, prevent them from enjoying life right now, which is so sad, especially for the older ones, they spend their final days feeling impending doom and not relating to anyone outside of the JW bubble.

  To get a handle on reality, that we are living in the most peaceful period in history, conditions for living are improving for all etc etc

  O.K of course, living on a volcanic planet that is still settling down,we get earthquakes etc , climate change will be a problem we have to deal with, and feeding all the new mouths.

  But a Malthusian view of the future, that ignores human ingenuity and progress has already proved false, the future is bright.

  who is the governing body?.

  put simply, the governing body purports to be a small group of anointed men (currently numbering 7) who represent a much larger group (numbering the thousands) of anointed individuals living on earth today.

  in nearly every reference to their position of oversight over the worldwide brotherhood, the governing body refer to themselves as being representatives.... .

  I think that the statement to the court boiled down to "does not exist as a legal entity in Australia" hence cannot be brought to Court.

  But if Ms van Witless said what OOdad has in parenthesis in his post, that is pretty incendiary stuff, and we need a proper document that won't disappear or be proved fraudulent or something, we don't want to lose credibility.

  yet if animals being given blood of any sort is so wrong, why do animals naturally eat other animals and consume their blood?.

  I notice that the only scriptural justification for this silliness comes from the Mosaic law, there is nothing said about having to pour out blood in the N.T

  Much of the N.T is Paul's teaching on how to not worry about the Law, and how Christ brought to an end the necessity to carry out all its details, he even says, in effect , don't worry about food not bled as per Jewish methods, eat it anyway.

  Paul showed that Christians are not under the Law, or indebted to the law in any way. (See Leo's excellent exegesis of Rom. chap 7 on the other thread)

  How can the WT make up rules, or worse really, re-institute a law that the Bible clearly says is defunct ?

  They should really observe the whole of the Mosiaic law if they don't believe Paul, starting with observing Passover on the correct day !
