Serious sinner?
by Gorb inwith the statement in the study watchtower this sunday, that stop serving jehovah is a serious sin, the following:.
- can i conclude now, that we, (i, wife and 2 children), since 2008 pomo and no longer active in any religious activity, are serious sinners for jehovahs witnesses?.
writing this in a watchtower, a statement like that, could have big implications.. it makes me so sad.

What concerns me may be an unfounded fear, but this statement leaves it open for Elders to Label any of us as being " Serious sinners" according to their lights, and then we will be treated the same as any actual "Removed Person".

Any J.W is quite likely to, as the Org. still refuses to institute an actual Active Working Programme of Protecting the Vulnerable*, and hence have left it open for perverts to do there evil deeds, of even an innocent J.W to be accused, because she or he was alone with a vulnerable person at some time.
* Such programmes are in place and working in all major Organisations in the U.K, and even little local ones, including small Clubs etc. Why not in the J.W Org ?
Perhaps they wish to keep their Label of the "Paedophile's Paradise".

Please give us the outcome of this Trial when you have it, thanks. And if you could please Post the info. yourself, as you have in the O.P, as accessing lancaster online seems not to be possible from the U.K.

The World Today
by peacefulpete ini've been meaning to share some recent experiences that defy the usual tropes about the 'world gone to hell' or 'people now days".. as some of you may remember i was seriously ill for a while and had to close my business and shop.
now, as it seems i have beaten it, i put up a sign again advertising that in a limited way i'm back.. what amazes me is how many times over the past 2 years customers and even competition have written and called to express their concern and best wishes.
just last week i had a personal visit of someone who i thought of as a rival, come in and shake my hand sincerely happy to see me up and around.

Thanks PP, any positive message is just what I need right now, I am going through a rough time, I am grieving as my wife passed away in late August, and the Funeral was on Friday. I thought I would be able to carry the grief better by now, but no.
That does not matter really, I think it best to let grief run its full and natural course. I have been physically unwell for a couple of days too, but I am coming through that.
But since the death of my wife, I too have been amazed at the wonderful kindness of so many people, family of course, and friends and neighbours etc, but some of those are people whom I hardly know, as they are new to the area, and other people from a wide area, and also people from my past.
The world is full of good, kind people, who do things out of kindness and altruism, which is what gives me hope for Mankind.

How did JWs arrive at a clearer understanding of what the Bible teaches than other Christian denominations?
by slimboyfat infor jws who believe that jehovah had a hand in reviving the truth in the nineteenth century this is enough explanation for how jws managed to achieve a closer approximation to early christian beliefs and practices than other groups.
but is there an explanation for this phenomenon that doesn’t rely on supernatural intervention?
new testament scholar james dunn explains the difficulty of interpreting the biblical texts in this way:.

Replacing poor Exegesis with Eisegesis is as far from a "clearer understanding" as it is possible to be.

What evidence is there for a biblical jesus?
by Touchofgrey inis there any independently verified evidence that a miracle worker called jesus existed and did the things that the bible said he did?.
the four gospels were written by unknown authors many decades after the so called events, so can't be considered as eyewitness accounts.
i think that there may have been a apocalyptic preacher who was executed by the romans and the story evolved from their.

The whole question of whether there was an historical, real living person who gave rise to the Mythical Literary Figure we are presented with in the Gospels is simply a matter of mild academic interest, it makes no difference, one way or the other.
Let's just assume there was an itinerant, rabble-rousing, Jewish political activist man who the Writer of "Mark" based his Character upon, that does not make anything else at all, not one thing, in the Story true.
Just as an example take the literary character Sherlock Holmes, we are quite sure that Conan Doyle based Holmes on a man who taught him, but that does not make Holmes and the Stories true, and it does not make any other character in the stories true either !
So, Dr. Watson, Moriarty, and Mrs Hudson et al are no more real than Holmes himself.
And neither are the other characters in the Gospels !
The Apostles, disciples, villains etc. we find in the Gospels are as imaginary as is the Jesus figure.

No, there is nothing I would grace with the word "evidence" for the "Jesus" of the Gospels.
Later references are only repeating the Mythos that had grown up since the time of Paul.
Had a person ANYTHING like the Jesus of Gospels existed, he WOULD have been written about at the time, even discounting fanciful miracles, someone who caused enough trouble for the Romans to crucify him would have been recorded, other trouble makers were written about, at the time they lived and died, and there were plenty of guys writing about such things, during the period this Jesus is supposed to have lived.
The Jesus of the Gospels is a totally Fictional Figure.

That is my attitude to to J.W relatives and old J.W friends who I feel need the membership of the Org. for their own well-being.
To these ones, it would be devastating if they did not have the association and activity involved in being a member, as they have NOTHING ELSE in life, having been subject all their lives to the strict, extremely rigid control of the Org.
If they left, or even became merely inactive and non-attenders, they would lose the respect they have from their fellow J.W's, and the support and friendship they have from them, which as we know, is entirely dependent upon you being seen as a "strong" member.
But as you showed Joe, all of that can remain, with little or virtually no real effort anymore for those who wish to take J.W life a little easier. It is now no problem, your fellow J.W's will either think you are doing more than you are, or if they are aware you are doing a little less than in past years, will make excuses for you.
Again , this will hasten the demise of the Org, but at least those J.W's who are as I described above may live out their lives retaining their support network, and have peace of mind.
