kenneson..I know you are sincere and so I will be polite.
A simple fact persists, the stories are different and to any non-apologete, contradictory. If the authors of either version were endeavoring to present an accurate historical account then the inconsistancies and inexplicable ommisions suggest an unfamiliarity with the facts or failing memory. If on the other hand their motives were of a more literary nature then these and dozens of other similar "problems" are quite understandable and in no way deminish the power of the tale.
I find the latter to be far more consistent with the nature of the stories and the religious milieu in the first two centuries C.E. which as you may know was bursting with pious tales of heroism and divine intervention surrounding nearly every major historical figure and legendary charactor. These were not "frauds" implying deceipt, rather they were simply vivid illustrations and inspiring stories. Bible literalism is torturous to the mind and the Bible.

Did Jesus meet them in Galilee? Contradiction
by peacefulpete inlibrary: magazines: the skeptical review: 1992: number one: did they tarry in the city?
if one were to ask a christian versed in the scriptures if the disciples of jesus met him in galilee after his resurrection, the answer would surely be, "yes, they did.
" after all, matthew, writing about postresurrection events, clearly said, "but the eleven disciples went into galilee, unto the mountain where jesus had appointed them.

i have since read ray franz's two books and greg stafford's "dissertations".
although i am very grateful to have found out that my years of questions had a solid base and i now see the wts for what it is, i have decided i need more positives in my life.

I'll also endorse Steve Hassan's book. I do not always agree with his opinion but his techniques and insight into the cult mind are peerless.

To make the break smply tell them some of the things you have learned here. They will assume you are under "apostate" influence and try to warn you away from anti-witness material with great passion. This is called "milieu control" or "information control". It s a standard feature of high control groups. This involves the position that any information in printed or verbal form outside the "channel of truth" is dangerous or at least suspect. This effectively creates a self imposed screen from conflicting or "doubt creating" ideas. The less you are aware of the facts and other's opinions the more certain a student becomes of their own and that of their trusted "teacher". The world becomes a very narrow but tidy place. Many Jehovah's Witnesses have needed cult recovery therapy as a result of having lost a sense of self and a healthy view of the society around them. If you repeatedly attempt to share what you have learned here they will turn on you as they have been trained to do. Friendships mean very little when dealing with a person under the influence of thought control. As a suggestion do not chose as a topi the child abuse thing as it is complicated and unless they will spend a great deal of time researching the extent and reason for the problem they will not be phased. The UN thing has opened some eyes. The blood issue contradictions (you can accept this or that but not this and that) are not something most are aware of. For others it is an awarness of Bible errancy. Whatever you feel strongest about will probably work best. I was a Presiding Overseer and missionary. I nearly lost my wife to the indoctrination that I had become evil because I simply could no longer agree with the WT. Leave before investing your whole life. Find friends who can love you for you not because you are "an approved associate".

Interesting introspection Introspection. My point, if I can truy say I had one, was to encourage self analysis. "How much do I value correct knowledge?" "Can you really know too much?" "Is ignorance bliss?" "Ought I prize accuracy over friendship?" "Do these issues really matter?" Stuff like that.

"Special Meeting" on Sunday 4/27/03. How special?
by robhic ina friend of mine who is a jw told me last night that there is a special meeting today that she wanted to attend.
since her health in the last few months has prevented meeting attendance (other than the memorial) i wonder why she is so determined to make the meeting today, sunday april 27, 2003. could it just be a local thing?
do the jw do that or is every meeting in lock-step with all the meetings in the country if not the world?

Of course the Beast with 10 horns of chapter 17 that turns on Babylon is explained by the WT as the UN. At least most of the time , sometimes they have forgotten their own explanation and identify it as the governents in general when making brief references to this passage. So nothing has changed in their role for the UN. It is really ridiculous however how they shift the identity of the 10 headed beast as the world governments to the UN arbitrarily. For the record. The beast and the harlot are references to Rome and it's sucession of caesars and emperors.

It is fun to listen to attempts to make this fit. The only two respondits themselves disagree about when and where what passage was spoken. Chaps last attempt is fatally flawed as well. Verse 44 begins with a conjunction phrase "And he now" clearly connecting the verse temporally with the dinner conversation. It is not at all honest to the text to separate this section off from the verses preceding it. Furthur this resequencing ignores what Matt. says happened in Galilee, namely the great comission to preach and teach the world "all" that they had learned from him. For in Luke 24:44-46 he is needing to explain the scriptures to them as their minds were closed to the meaning of Jesus death and ransom. It hardly seems reasonable to suggest he sent them out to preach "all" he had taught them when he had not yet taught them the basics of the ransom and resurrection, does it? No it not possible to "insert" 40 days into the text at verse 44. This is not history. This is pious fiction.
