the israelities needed moral codes, civil codes and holiness codes.. when the jews were getting ready to go to the promise land, god.

had to prepare them to become a nation.

Why do some claim that the law against homosexuality are still in force today but the law about eating catfish or pork is not.

Because homosexuality is a deviation from man's original design. Dispite the current homosexual band wagon, Jesus did, in fact, speak against homosexuality. On numerous occasions, Jesus condemned the sins of adultery (Matthew 19:18), sexual immorality (Matthew 19:9) and fornication (Matthew 15:19). These terms describe any type of sexual intercourse that is not within the confines of a marriage as ordained by God. Jesus then proceeded to define exactly what God views as a morally permissible marriage. He stated:

Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning made them male and female, and said, “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh”? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate (Matthew 19:4-6).
There is no such thing as a practicing gay christian. That's an oxymoron similar to say a "Christian thief".

Disfellowshiping: Why the Terror?

the more i read about ritual shunning and disfellowshiping in the society, the more i wonder how the governing body and elders have pulled the proverbial wool over the eyes of the congregation.

first, the society doesnt consider itself a church (unlike the ancient christians, who did consider themselves to be part of a church).

yet, like other sectarians, they have their hands out for contributions and exercise immense power over their members.

Why? ... because the real currency that the WT traffiks in is the familial love bonds among family members. Instead of indulgences, they sell you your own family if you tow the line.

i think they know what they don't believe in, like no blood, no hellfire, no trinity....but they really couldn't explain what their beliefs are and why they believe as they do.

behold, damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap....and behold at eveningtide trouble; and before the morning he is not.. damascus is the oldest continually inhabited city in the world.

yet, this prophecy says that it will cease to be a city in one night.

Excellent Research - Searcher.

Over the years the WT has been quite critical of especially the catholic church in making their traditions equal to the word of God such as:

1994 Catholic Catechism Paragraph # 82 -

As a result the Church, to whom the transmission and
interpretation of Revelation is entrusted, does not
derive her certainty about all revealed truths from
the Holy Scriptures alone. Both Scripture and
Tradition must be accepted and honored with
equal sentiments of devotion and reverence.

However, the WT unashamedly claims that their writings are equal to the word of God:

Watchtower December 15, 2008, pg 28 –

“Our coming to know, the truth - the entire body of
Christian teachings that has become part of the
Bible - and adhering to it are essential for our
salvation”.

Freaking Amazing!

There is only one way into God’s favor:

I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into
the sheepfold , but climbeth up some other way, the
same is a thief and a robber…Verily, verily, I say
unto you, I am the door of the sheep. - Jn.10: 1-7

Damascus is the oldest continually inhabited city in the world. Yet, this prophecy says that it will cease to be a city in one night. Damascus is in modern day Syria.

Currently, Syria is one of Israel's principal immediate military threats.

he writes, "a person who actively participates in his own punishment will come to believe he deserves it.

my question: if i actively participate in my own disfellowshipping byfollowing along with the practice of shunning (not greeting, not raising hand at meeting to comment, showing up to go out in service, no conversations at all with jws) does that effectively men that i condone and accept the punishment rendered by the elders?

wht constitutes acceptance of that punishment?

one of my favorites is their tracts that talk about "observing" the "lord's evening meal".

of course they cannot call it the lord's supper like the rest of western civilization.

Satan is a master of deception. Because our natures are opposed to God, we seek either ourselves or others to lead us. If you are flying upside down in an airplane and look out the window at an image that is also upside down, how could you tell?

Getting Rid of Left-Over JW Superstitions

i've been only out for about a year now, but still have some left-over superstitions, that i was hoping someone could help me get rid of.

firstly, i'd like to say that i don't think these are rational, but they keep bothering me, and i have some anxiety/paranoia problems that most likely are the cause.. i'm embarrassed by these silly things, and am young and have not been out long, so i'd assume this is to be an expected symptom.. what i usually keep doing is looking for patterns in everything, like if jws come to the door, i start interpreting it to mean that god sent them, or some such silliness.. or when watchtower or awake!

magazines come out, i keep applying the topics to what i've been thinking about, or what has happened recently.

2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

My JW phobias didn't go away until I got right with God through faith in Jesus ALONE. When you have an encounter with the Holy Spirit, you'll never forget it. No more fear.
