  french philosopher blaise pascal once noted, "men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction.

  " a case study for this statement can clearly be evidenced by the governing body of jehovahs witnesses.. the gb present themselves as lovers of truth and righteousness who are the only persons on this planet who speak for god.

  this doctrine is at the very core of the beliefs of jehovahs witnesses and is one of the few that cannot be rationalized away by wts apologists.

  Well spoken Hillary! I have long thought that all the needless deaths are by far the most reprehensible aspect of the WT organization. Sure there are alot of other atrocities, but death has a finality that no other abuse can compete with.

  When I asked my father one time who was responsible for all the deaths from the organ transplant ban, now allowable blood fractions, and selective service prohibitions, he claimed that no proof of that existed. I just stared at him in amazement that someone could share in the murder of so many innocent people and only be concerned with being caught.

  I believe your post captures the paramount issue of what is wrong with the WTBS......murder

  all human problems such as starvation, disease, and injustice will be solved at armageddon because god is going to kill everyone living that isn't a witness.

  currently, that's 99.9% of the human race.. i'm gonna use this next time i meet a jw who starts to witness to me or calls on me at my new address.... jw: do you believe that all of societies problems like starvation or disease will be solved one day?.

  ak: yes, according to your religion those problems will be solved because the people who have the problems will be destroyed at armageddon cos they didn't convert to your religion.. wonder if i can get them to say that jw's aren't the only ones to be saved at armageddon.. from ak

  I can assure you that this kind of garbage definitely affected my uneducated superstitous immigrant ancestors from Sicily. They were being studied with during the late 20's and early 30's. My mother, born in 1933 received the full force of this ignorance and passed on a lighter version to us kids.

  This kind of thinking that the deemonz are everywhere was displayed openly in my house as late as the early Eighties.

  It is embarrassing to know that your relatives fell for such tripe.

  i have to wonder what the average witness today knows?

  i guess they are under orders not to talk to anyone that might actually be able to inform them of any facts that are negative or unflattering to the society, but what have they found out anyway, through whatever means, even the publications?.

  1. do they know that russell got a lot of dates from the measurements of pyramids, including 1914?

  I don't know that I'll ever get the totality of the "big picture" What I do know is that I used to use the "one drop of poison in a glass of water" illustration at the doors while clearly seeing the bits and pieces of the lies. What utter hypocrisy I displayed.

  In my book, knowing to what ever degree makes one culpable.

  Was J.F. Rutherford - Exonerated?

  one of the cornerstones of the watchtower society's claims about the 1918 trial of joseph f. rutherford and seven other co-defendants, is that the trial was a travesty of justice, where the defendants were railroaded off to prison.. to make their point, the society has repeatedly stated that joseph rutherford and his fellow defendants were "exonerated" of all charges, and subsequently released from prison fully vindicated.

  the society also attributed this 'victory' to jehovah's hand in matters, restoring the symbolic 'two witnesses' spoken of in revelation, and thereby, reactivating the kingdom preaching work.. what actually transpired is that the convicted defendants filed a petition for a "writ of error.

  " (trial transcript, pages 1-10, parts 1-30 ) the writ of error was allowed by the trial court, judge howe, and granted by the district court judge chatfield, whom the society earlier objected to and had removed from their trial, because they felt he would not be fair to them.. what does this mean?

  The really sad part is that many know that they support a lying murderous brotherhood. Oh yes, they immediately purge such thoughts from their mind, but deep down they know.

  They know the truth when they are lying in bed wide awake at 3 in the morning unable to sleep.

  They know when they see major foundational doctrines reverse.

  They know when they see the society cheat Ceasar out of his due.

  They know when they see members commit suicide.

  They know when they pick up on the warped twisted manipulative self worshipping rhetoric in the publications.

  They know when they are privy to the filth that goes on in the congregations.

  They know when they see the effects of hypocritical destructive policies exposed by family members or in the media.

  What incredible cowards they are not to simply stop the madness and stand up with some backbone and say, enough is enough already - regardless of personal cost

  Their rationalization? Simply this: It must be ok because Jehovah has allowed all this with his people; where else could we go?

  That reasoning will ring hollow when standing before their Judge. It has already rung hollow with me.

  i was reading some news reports on yahoo about suicide bombings likely to happen here in the us.

  what irks me the most are statements made about the justice departments inability to track visas issued to foreign students.

  i remember watching a portuguese newscast via satellite tv sometime last october.

  Regarding the comments made early on in this thread. Let me just add my voice against those that would villify our current leadership for an act of war against our country.

  After 8 years of weakening the military and the CIA, refusing to hunt down perpertrators of terrorism against American Embassies, refusing to accept Osama when offered by the Sudsanese govt., and openly accepting bribes and contributions from foreign governments; it is Clinton that we can thank for emboldening our enemies to the point of inviting large scale attack on U.S. soil.

  Many democrats would have never put up with that crap, the previous poster discraces his party by intimating that his view is representative of patriotic democrats. Any other who throws similar stones is just as reprehensible. Are you listening Tom Daschle? Blame should be put squarely on the disaray of the CIA for its shoddy and lazy intelligence.

  I think we all need to be fully aware that there are many who would like to see our society and culture crumble, for a variety of philosophical, religious and political reason. Many have lost a sense of Americanism and who we are. They have traded the core ideals of our society for dead, suicidal philosophers' ideas which are now proselytized from the pulpit of our university classrooms.

  The United States has been one of the few stable and good things that has affected my life. It ain't perfect. But, it's been good to me. I for one will protect my homeland both in debate and on the battlefield if necessary.

  evansville tv news crew doing a story today on jw molestation because a victim came forward.

  more articles coming out in the tennessean due to more victims coming forward.

  Absolutely unbelievable!

  I remember clearly studying in the Paradise book at the tender age of 5. I remember being scared of God because of all the killing he was about to do. I grew up absolutely convinced that I wouldn't live past age 12. (1975) I never knew a God of love from the publications.

  When are they going to learn that fear never works in the long run? Those scared children grow up really twisted either completely subserviant to the WT regardless of their bloodguilt and lies or must fight an uphill mental battle for years to achieve some semblence of normality in their lives.

  Interesting observations. I don't have any of the new literature, so I can't really comment on those. What little I have read from clips here and there of recent writings is stocked full of self importance and unethical scholarship.

  Sadly, most witnesses are completely untrained to pick up on shoddy scholarship and manipulation.
