What do you say when the Mormons come by?
by MegaDude injust got through having a conversation with two mormons going door to door on this cold saturday here in fort worth, texas.
damn, they remind me so much of jehovah's witnesses it isn't even funny: the same zeal, the same conviction, the same confidence.
as a matter of fact, they seemed a lot more of all these things.

First JW Commercial Seen
by 95stormfront in.
so, i'm sitting in front of the tube surfing through channels, and i come upon the tail end of a jw commercial whose tag line is "love builds happy families", and i'm thinking, only if you submit to wt brainwashing.
once on the inside, if you choose to leave, you'll really begin to see the "love" jws are all about.. i guess with dwindling membership and their much ado about nothing house to house "ministries" bringing no new blood in, they're taking a recruiting cue from christendom.

Are you certain it wasn't a Mormon commercial, I didn't realise the dubs were hitting the airwaves?

Myths
by rocketman inlast night, abc tv's 20/20 aired a one-hour segment entitled "lies, myths, and downright stupidity", hosted by john stossel.
the intent of the program was to prove that certain commonly held beliefs (such as the myth that exposure to cold makes one catch a cold) are untrue.. listed as the number one myth was: "life is getting worse", a look at the common notion that the world has continually become worse as a place to live.
evidence was presented that debunks this claim, such as:.

Hi Walker,
Little Toe makes a very good point above, that what you have to do (if you are inclined towards God that is) is get right with Him. Only you can decide if you have done that, however. Do you feel your conscience is clear towards God? Putting the teachings you were raised with to one side for a moment, even if Armageddon was to come tomorrow and you were asked to make a personal accounting for yourself, could you do that? Do not imagine an accounting where you are marked against the "rules" of the Society, but where a God of Love and all-knowing infinite wisdom asks have you lived in a way that didn't contravene the ultimate law of love.
A JW could then argue that within that "law of love" is included not offending the conscience of another, and that is probably the bottom line used to disfellowship you. According to the elders handbook, had you displayed a "repentent attitude" you should not have been df'd, probably reproved. It is all a pointless exercise in "naming and shaming" in my humble opinion however.
A line of investigation you could take would be to check out some of Russell's writings.

Details on Files Kept in the Cong.
by Blueblades inwhat exactly is put into the file on those who are disfellowedshipped?is the information very detailed,so that others can read such details,or is it just that they have been disfellowedshipped.. for example:suppose someone have been df.for a sexual matter, brother or sister.are the details descriptive of what was committed or is just that they were df.i know that on the outside of the envelope the name is posted and that's it.but if someone were to open the folder and look inside can they get the detailed information on that person?.
when do the elders destroy such folders?can a person who no longer wishes to come back get their records and destroy them themselves?.

I was told all that was recorded about my reproof was the date and names of Bros. on the JC. Also told my 'good name' was not in question. Go figure.

you either believe or you don't, it's as simple as that. Does leaving one religion signify an end to all spiritual belief? Who knows?
