666
by ThiChi ineverything you wanted to know about 666 but were afraid to ask!.
the number 666, first made famous by the book of revelation (chapter 13, verse 18), has also been studied by mathematicians because of its many interesting properties.
here is a compendium of mathematical facts about the number 666. most of the well-known "chestnuts" are included, but many are relatively new and have not been published elsewhere.

Okay, now I'm really confused!!!!
Do I need my calculus & trig. college books to understand this thread?!!!!
And does this mean that I shouldn't be afraid to ask anymore, as now I have more questions then I did before this thread was posted!!!!!

President Bush's speech
by Mulan ini wanted to hear the president's speech tonight, but can't stand listening to the man.
he has a prepared speech but he keeps saying nuc-you-lar instead of nuc-le-ar.
i can't stand it.. you would think his people would walk him through correct pronunciation.

#1 - Nothing G.Bush said is anything that we haven't known for 10 years now - duh!
#2 - Rhetoric & fear is a great weapon of control - we've all been there/done that - that's what that speech was about. Scare the people to promote his own agenda - the upset of Sadam Hussein. Should Sadam go - probably. Should the U.S. be the one to make that decision? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!! We're already in enough "deep pucky" w/our foreign policy as it is (look at all the International treaties we've backed out of because it wasn't in the "american workers" best interests)!!!! The UN should be the only one to make this decision. Does that leave us "exposed" to another attack from Iraq - probably. Still, its best to err on the side of caution imho. Pre-emptive strikes will incur the wrath of other middle eastern countries that have tried to remain "allies" with the U.S.. Bush & his cabinet have made it abundently clear that not only do they want Sadam out - but a "democratic" regime in. WHO ARE WE TO DECIDE?
#3 - It leave open to many other countries a "go to war" free card. If the U.S. & Isreal can continuously disregard all resolutions (which Isreal has been doing for years now) made by the UN - who are we to say that ANYONE should have to uphold the UN resolutions? Hypocritical at best.
#4 - None of this would be happening if we would review our protection of Isreal. Yesterday, they bombed a Palestinian HOSPITAL because they said there were gunmen inside. That's just a small sample of the atrocities that Isreal has committed against the palestinian people. The only crap you hear about on the news is what the Palestinians have done w/the suicide bombings. There's 2 sides to this story & we're only listening to Isreals.

I'M GETTIN' NERVOUS!
by Mary inmy surgery (hysterectomy) is scheduled for this friday and i'm getting really nervous.........nervous that the cancer may have spread, nervous about the pain, nervous about what i'm going to go through mentally, physically and emotionally afterwards (i guess i'll be going through the change of life real quick).
i've done pretty good so far: am trying to keep positive, eating right, exercising (i've lost 15 lbs!
), meditating, and i'm going on tuesday to someone who does reiki (i think that's how you spell it).

Mary - I had a very good friend (42) go through surgery for the same thing 6 months ago. Her recovery has been great. Mood swings at times, but other than that everything is honky dory & she is still "cancer free". The Docs are thinking she has made a full recovery. In fact, with her estrogen replacement & hormone replacement, she actually is enjoying sex more (no fear of little bambino's). I wouldn't say it wasn't without ups & downs, she had crying spells, etc. etc. but there was minimal pain.
Good luck to you Mary - it isn't easy but I think you'll be surprised at how quickly you'll recover from this.

The Enormous Price of Lack of Faith
by Zechariah intrusting god is far more than merely believing he exists.. i just this evening watched a senate session on cspan on the subject of delaying deciding on preemptive strikes against iraq.
it was very interesting to see how lack of trust in god causes irrational fear that people will be willing to sacrafice all their wealth, their comforts, and even the lives of their children.
without the belief that god exists and that spiritual forces exist there is hopelessness.

The only thing I can say to this is that we must have been reading two different bibles.
The bible I read has dozens of stories of an angry god who killed innocent children, women & men in his quest of proving his own sovreignty. How many wars are detailed in the same bible, killing the innocents? How many wars did he himself dictate be started? His "chosen" people were not immune from this any more than his enemies.
For you to say lack of faith in god is the cause of war is absurd. God has been calling for violence since Adam & Eve's first children.

SCC - take your time, and learn. Almost all here have had to live for a time with the guilt & fear of walking away from the "truth", and it is scary as hell......so take it one step at a time.
When you can - learn the truth of the origins of this religion, their many inconsistencies etc. etc. If you can read "Crisis of Conscious" - should be a real eye opener for you.
It won't happen overnight - but it will get easier. And post your questions here too, you'll find some so gifted in the understandings of the bible that its almost like a real bible study (no offense intended - meant as a compliment).
And good luck in school. Just open your mind & the "truth" will speak for itself.

Who were the apostates I once saw?
by ballistic inthere was talk the other day of "modern day apostates" which made me think back to the pre-internet days at conventions where we used to get leaflets sprung on us by what i then presumed to be apostates.
who are the apostates of the 80s and 90s who used to spring leaflets on us?
are they now on the net with us modern day apostates?

my mother, a faithful jw, finally died after a long illness.i had been by her side all the way., my brother& wife , the jw ,rarely made an apperance-but showed up at last minute to make sure he got her jewelry.
he rarely showed up because i am not active so not considered good association.also he had no close feelings for her.

(((Wednesday)))
My condolences to your loss, and my admiration to you for the strength & love you were able to show. You will in days & months to come truly appreciate having had the chance to care for your mother and spend that precious time with her, unlike your siblings who will have to live their lives knowing what they didn't do, and should have done.
As others have mentioned, take time to heal yourself. You have a beautiful soul, let it recover.

I don't know about demons - but I do vaguely recall there is a medical condition that causes this - I think it has something to do with the nervous system....it should be looked into.
