Good point IW - I don't feel these chapters are "closed". I think alot still need closure as I too felt the shiver on the board. I just hope that soon the snow will melt on its own, and the board will find a way to get rid of the cold.

well i had the surgery 3 weeks ago and it looks very good.
the doctor said the cancer hasn't spread any further (thank god!
) but they still want me to have radiation.

My father-in-law is sort of in your situation - regarding the radiation - get a 2nd opinion. But, I know the radiation will better your chances for no recurrence, so in the end its a gamble you take 1 way or the other.

((IW)) - wow, a lot of loss for you too huh? I miss my friends that I had, I still think of them often. I miss the illusion of the close "special" relationship I had with my mother, contingent of course my being in the "truth", as well as my siblings whom I've never really known, as I left home when they were still too young to develop a relationship with, so will never have. I also miss the lunches after the sunday meeting, before field service. I miss the "excitement" of going to the assemblies as well. I'm sorry for the limbo state you find yourself in with your family - its disgusting to see what an organization built on supposed "love" can do to the family structure, which pretty much proves why we can't go back doesn't it?

Also, the feeling of being "special"/"chosen" - knowing I know something & have a reward coming that most do not. Weird.
Its almost like realizing for the 1st time that you're an adult, its kinda scary. Your thoughts are your own, your road is your own, your choices are your own. I've been out almost 16 years now, and have 2 beautiful children of my own. Even so, once in awhile I miss it. Almost like longing to be a child again, yet realizing that I can't "go back".
Do you ever feel this way?

Couldn't agree w/you more! In fact, I wanted to start a thread to this very point a million times, but figured I'd just be continuing the argument. I'm glad to see this thread is not degenerating into another thread of argument.....hopefully it can end here.

Refiners, you make viable points. I'm sure many non-JW's have "covered up" their childrens abuse due to ignorance or shame. And, as in the case of the Catholics, religions have "silenced" the victims in order to avoid any undue shame on their religion.
So what? The point is, that now that it IS becoming well known, it doesn't change the fact that CHANGE needs to happen - across the board. As more become aware of the problem, more can be done to prevent it from recurring in even greater numbers. The JW's must change their policies, as much as Catholics & any other religion that silences the victims & allow the guilty to continue to practice their disgusting habits without any reservation as to consequences (or a small slap on the wrist).
The more JW's are aware, the more effort more parents may take in guarding their own children to prevent them from being a victim, regardless of whether they remain JW's or not.
Most JW's I know are completely ignorant as to child abuse - "it would never happen in God's true organization" they think. Perhaps with groups such as the Silent Lambs, they will be made aware that it CAN & DOES, which hopefully will prevent more victims.
