But, for anyone - why is this a "free speech" issue? And, would any of you have been commenting on this thread had the flag he had flying been a German, Iraqi or French flag?
my dad just got a serious stroke and he may pass on.

For a glimmer of hope, my hubby's grandfather had 24 (yep count um - 24) strokes over a 2 year period in his 80's, and we had given him up for gone on at least 3 different occassions (in ICU, considering "pulling the plug" scenario). Everytime, he shocked us by waking up one morning & asking for spaghetti, then going home within 3 days!
The body has a weird way of healing itself at times, so I'm hoping for the best for ya (but yea, I don't think God has anything to do with it).

some years back, i was the area sales manager for a national company.
one of my reps was a real handful to deal with.
he was brilliant, thorough and meticulous.
Well, we know for a fact that they monitor this & other sites to "discover" spies amongst them, or bad little JW's.
And, from what I've been hearing lately, it does appear they are toning down some of their "beliefs" and slowly mainstreaming. So, perhaps us "apostates" should be commended for helping them! Doubt we'll get any "applause" in any articles anytime soon though

i am so in the dark.
i do not know what's going on and, quite frankly, i don't care to.
perhaps there is bliss in ignorance.
I can say that I "used too", at least for a little while during the winter months when there wasn't much else to do!
It's almost like a soap opera however. Having been around for almost 2 years now, I can say that almost the exact same scenarios play out time after time, sometimes with the long standing "regular" feuders, but then new cast members are added regularly to keep the scenery "fresh". Same issues, same discussions, same fights.
Now, I kinda just watch from the sidelines, and once in a great while throw in a comment when I think someone's gone over the edge of decency.
Winter's on its way again in just a short time - hopefully I'll have found a better hobby by then!

Wow - 2 of the most outspoken conservative's (hannerty & limbaugh) are at total opposite sides on this one!
As far as those who want to make this about hanging the American flag - it wouldn't have mattered if it were an American Flag, Easter Flag, Scooby Doo flag or any other flag!!! The emotional motivation of it being a symbol of our country should hold absolutely no bearing here
He couldn't hand it from the brackets as the HOA demanded because the flag would have then touched bushes.
Then put the brackets where the flag WONT touch the bushes - sheesh!
And I'd like to see the "proof" that this was made a rule AFTER he moved in - the stories I've seen reported on this issue did not say this - they only say that he knew no flag poles were the rule when he purchased the home.
i have been still at it to get more help for my son matthew,well his psychiatrist has been doing as mush as he can.he is great!
i will be having someone soon come into my home to help me and my son to learn.i never realized matthew is severe with autism,until i compared him to other children over the summer.i had matthew in day camp for most of the summer.
well,i remeber i mentioned,the last letter i wrote when i was sooooooooo upset.. i mentioned matthew has pinworms and i have a very difficult time getting rid of them because it is very hard to give him any type of medication.he mouths a lot of objects and before you know he picks something up off the ground and in it goes to his mouth.
Just thought of something else.
You may want to try placing a large cushion (couch) on top of him and "sitting" on it (if you have help this would go easier) and then FORCE that medicine down his throat. It sounds drastic, but his health is more important than what others may think - they don't live our life. Or, hide the medicine in applesauce or ice cream (this works w/my son). Also, try freezing the medicine in homemade popsicles.
The problem with the Hospital is that the only way they will be able to treat him is to tie him either to the bed, or to a papoose board. Is Matthew to difficult physically for you to handle? For a couple of years, medications were given to my son by sitting on his chest & arms (using appropriate force of course) while his dad held his head & then forced his mouth closed. But, we tried writing a social story about his tummy/ear "owies" and then explained how he had to take the medicine or it wouldn't stop hurting

Shera - have you considered writing a "social story" with pictures to explain to your son that he must take his medicine? I would try this.
Show him THROUGH pictures what will happen if he does not take his medicine like a big boy orally (i.e. pictures of the possibility of him being tied to a bed while they put an I.V. into his arm, having to stay in the hospital, etc.).
It still sounds like you are having serious "compliance" issues - is the Behavioral Modification not working?

the reason i ask this is because a couple i know was away in the tropics, and he popped the question.
and yet, since they've been back (over 8 months) they've been mum on all things wedding.
Call me old fashioned, but I wouldn't be on vacation with someone I wasn't considering marrying. And, if when he popped the question I had doubts, I would tell him so.

There's a few facts that are conveniently left out of your slant on things here Yeru.
#1 - It was NOT about "hanging the American flag" as is being touted. It was about putting up a FLAG POLE in the middle of his lawn, which was directly against the agreement he signed when he joined the association & purchased a home in that community. He could have the American flag waving proudly, as long as it was hung from a pole connected to the house.
#2 - This man was totally pissed off at his homeowner's association for reasons that had nothing to do with this situation, and chose this as his "cause" because he thought it would garner him a little sympathy attention (which obviously he got).
Totally stupid that he even won the lawsuit.
