My Step Son

i picked up my 18 year old step son today, i mentioned last week that his dad threw him out because sean and his step mom didn't get along.

dad handed off luggage, etc, a hug and a reminder to "go to meetings as often as you can.".

as soon as his dad was out of ear shot sean said, "well, i'm 18 now, i have options, what would i have to do if i wanted to become catholic?".

Yeru - just let him take his time. He's an adult now, and his upbringing sounds like its been emotionally upheaving & confusing at best. Is he going to college?

Getting him adjusted to "normalcy" in itself will probably take awhile. I hope his younger siblings are okay. They'll probably be coming along shortly.

As far as his religious views, give him time. Let him weed it out for himself. Its obvious that his father has pretty much "written him off", by not even offering to come to take him to meetings. What Christian love!!!!!

I think you're great to take on such a complicated situation.

Welcome Evilchicken - so you're HOT aye? hmmmm....ladies, he's taken I think from the above post (damnit - can't even find um single out of the "borg"!)

As far as being superior to JW's, hopefully this has not been true in my case as many others. Nathan hit the nail on the head - sometimes its hard to see ourselves in others.

As far as the JW's that post here, they don't take anymore crap than anyone else, until they start their haughty "your gonna die" crap, then it gets a little rough for um....and why shouldn't it?

Nope - not just you LDH - it sucks!!!! Especially in the last month - ugggghhhh.....(but, gotta keep those hubbys happy!). My hubby was so frisky - he wanted it at the hospital the day after!

Festering Helplessness

i wanted to take this opportunity to vent some frustration and ask for suggestions on how to proceed .

.. my wife is just preparing to be baptized this weekend.

i have tried to dissuade her numerous times, even preparing a logical argument that i thought was indisputable.

It sounds as if she is too close minded to deal with indire. My heart goes out to you. After she's baptized, it will probably get worse.

I've seen other inter-faith relationships work, but it takes a level of maturity that it appears your wife doesn't have. She is using emotional "blackmail" to make you behave the way she wants you to. I would suggest that you use her own teachings in regards to this, and show her that you are the "head of the household", and that it goes against her religion to use the silent treatment, guilt trips et. all to coerce you into doing things you don't want to do.

But, much worse, what will happen if you have children? You both need to discuss this, because if you think its bad now, wait until your children are included in this tug-of-war.

It sounds as if another heart-wrenching discussion is in order - before she becomes baptized. Decisions must be made NOW, before you have children.

If she is unwilling to listen to logical arguments, then she will not hear.

This is a very difficult situation indire.....I hope for the best for both of you.

P.S. Forbid her to go this weekend until you can come to a mutual/respectful decision. You are the head of the household!

i am an active jw and was raised as one.

i have been watching the site for a while and thought it could benefit from the opinions of someone who is happily a member of the jw's.

i will not get into any argumets that lead to nothing except name calling, and will not talk with anyone who is just plain mean (plenty of them in here).

im not the first to go through this, i wont be the last.. i was raised in the truth as a result of my mum starting a study when i was 4 years old.

that was in 1968. the hysteria of a 1975/armageddon was just beginning to take root and the sister who studied with my mum was 100% sure of it.

Nic - good luck to you, your wife and your children. I think most can attest to here, losing family members because of the borg does cause pain, but it will get easier to handle.

My prayers are with you and those you love. Please keep posting here and let us all help you as you struggle with this difficult time in your life. Lord knows you've been there for so many, now its our turn!

Bill: It is so sad to think that the JW's not only are taking their "message" worldwide, but their dirty lil secrets as well. I'm glad this is coming to the forefront, I hope that more and more countries are able to make the WTBTS "give Ceasers things to Ceaser". How they can protect these people will never make sense to me. Their reputation is more important than the physical/emotional & mental well-being of their own children.

What's a parent to do?

i don't know if i am the only one with this problem or not.

but i have two boys ages 4 and 6. i get them up at a normal hour (the older one is in school, now).

i even put them to bed around 8 or 9 pm, depending on what is going on for the day.

We had the same problem w/our 5 y.o. I would try Epsom Salt Baths (yes they do help). If this doesn't work, try going to the Health Food store and buying melatonine (natural supplement). If either of these don't work, try taurine supplement.

The Epsom Salt baths worked like a charm for my 5 y.o., something to do with the magnesium being absorbed into the skin.

My 14 y.o. was diagnosed with ADHD - and they wanted to put him on Ritalin. Went to the natural healing doc, and he said to uptake the Zinc. Worked like a charm.
