  My Step Son

  i picked up my 18 year old step son today, i mentioned last week that his dad threw him out because sean and his step mom didn't get along.

  dad handed off luggage, etc, a hug and a reminder to "go to meetings as often as you can.".

  as soon as his dad was out of ear shot sean said, "well, i'm 18 now, i have options, what would i have to do if i wanted to become catholic?".

  Yes, my 5 year old has autism, along with apraxia (severe language impediment). He presents a new challenge every day!!!!

  Yes, auti's are quite bright, its a matter of finding the avenue their brains want to take. Actually, 80% Nobel Peace Prize winners & alot of the greatest inventors (Einstein, Edison) all had forms of autism - Aspergers (high functioning).

  It can be extremely difficult, but extremely rewarding as well. I would "assume" that Sean has a difficult time with social situations and picking up clues as to others true emotions. Hopefully, this helped defray some of the negativity that would come from knowing your own father would turn you out because of a piece of @$$.

  The Already Tired Argument of Bin Laden's Guilt

  there has been several threads since the start of the war on afghanistan (and before it), concerning the issue of bin laden's guilt.

  many have seen the obvious, that he and those who harbor him, are guilty, and that the attacks on afghanistan are completely justified if not the only choice for the u.s. still others claim the ridiculous notion that "evidence" should have been presented to the taliban first, and a "trial" should have been held for bin laden before any actions were taken.

  i realize most readers on this forum could care less, and the fact remains that the few of us who have argued these points are pretty tired of talking in circles.

  Bin Laden has regularly not declared his involvement till many months after any attack (i.e. the Embassy bombings & the U.S.S. Cole).

  Its his trademark - he tells the entire world he's gonna do "something", then "something" happens & he claims innocence until it suits his purpose to come out & admit it. Why now? Don't know - can only assume that he has figured out the whole world isn't going to war, that they've figured out that this isn't a Muslim/Christian situation (at least I hope they've figured this out).

  Should People Be Disfellowshipped?

  a reply i made on another thread prompted me to post this.

  i was going to do so on the other thread but that was really not the topic and i didn't want to corrupt it by flying off on another tangent.. i have no problems with disfellowshipping from an organization such as jehovah's witnesses.

  i don't think a person should be allowed to remain within an organization while practicing things that are condemned by that org., things which they, themselves profess not to believe in.. my objection is to the shunning.

  I doubt they will ever change the policy on shunning. I'm sure they no how many would outright walk away, no longer quietly. They must know how many continue to fill the R&F who truly don't "believe" this is the right religion, but do not leave for fear of losing family and friends. Without this punishment, they would lose control. Without control, they would lose publishers. Without publishers, they would lose money. Without money.............

  What helped you get over it?

  hi guys,.

  what helped you guys get over your anger of being shunned, dealt with unfairly, ignored, etc?.

  my wife and i found comfort in each other.

  Anger was the only emotion I had for a long time that helped me survive I think. If it weren't for the anger, my own lack of self-esteem, depression & self-worthlessness would have taken over and I would no doubt be a suicide statistic.

  What helped me get over it? To be honest, still in "recovery", so web sights like this have had a positive influence. The love of my hubby, who although cannot begin to comprehend my life, encourages me to seek whatever avenues I need to help myself.

  Research & realizing I've lived in a "cult", that the basis of this religion was false helped. I realized I now have a "blank" page as far as my spirituality goes, whatever I do to fill that now is between me and God - and no other man. Whatever religions I "dabble" in will be to seek my relationship with God and study him - not a man made organization.

  Knowing life is now "unpredetermined" has opened so many closed doors, I actually relish alot of things I never had (i.e. finishing school, helping my children develop normaly, etc. etc.).

  For those interested, in his most recent video release, Bin Laden has taken responsibility for his organization in the WTC attacks. Evidence is no longer needed, he has fessed up.

  i just read this article in the chicago sun times.

  when i started reading the parents were religious and then saw home-schooling, i had a gut feeling they were jw's.

  i read on and found out i was right.

  I concur w/everyone here - those bastards should die!!!! Do they have the death penalty in Illinois?

  I remember growing up as a JW, and beatings were a daily occurence. I, and my siblings, still have scars from beatings we suffered - my mother never spared the rod. I remember her always repeating the stories from the Hebrew scriptures, how children in those days were stoned to death for being disobedient, and that we should feel fortunate that those laws no longer applied.

  Giving me the shakes just thinking about it....what a sad sad state of affairs. It pains me greatly to think they haven't learned their lesson yet.

  While children from all backgrounds are abused unmercifully, it never ceases to amaze me that the JW's can spout their "unconditional love".

  Wonder if they'll be disfellowshipped for this, or if they're truly repentent

  Yeru - I hope your family knows what a wonderful guy you are!!! Sean is blessed to have such a wonderful, understanding step-dad.

  It burns me up to think that his own father is so p.w.'d that he would risk (in his eyes) his own son's "eternal salvation" for a piece of @&&!!!! Having a child with autism, I know the special challenges they present, and I get "burnt out" sometimes.

  Just by your example you will be doing more for Sean spiritually, mentally & emotionally than its obvious his biological father is capable of.

  Hats off to you Yeru - you're the best (even if you're a totally right-wing republican
