What was your 1st Deception as a JW?
by JH inwas was the first thing that really decieved you, in your jw years?.
was it the way you were treated, or maybe a teaching that deceived you ?.
i think my 1st deception was when they said that the resurrected ones wouldn't be allowed to get married in the new system.. then i wondered why ???

After a few years it dawned on me that the all powerful god of the universe probably has better judgment than to put morons in charge of his one true religious corporation even if they do use his name. The men who control the WBTS can't possibly believe in a real All Powerful God. Otherwise, they'd be in fear that he wouldn't put up with their bullshit. They don't seem to be, so I don't guess they do. Leo

Baha'i religion
by Junction-Guy indoes anyone here know anything about baha'i?, i have never seen it mentioned on here before.
i remember there was a country singer back in the late 80's that was a baha'i, but i cant remember his name.
even back then while i was going to the kingdom hall, when i first heard of this singer something in my mind said this is a cult, even though i was associating with the grandaddy of them all.

Hello JG,
Honestly don't know about Baha'i Faith. Maybe Hindu based? Not sure. But a group from back in the 70's and 80's who were involved in this religion was Seals and Crofts and I believe that Jimmy Seals of that group has a brother, Dan Seals, who is a country singer and may therefore be involved also. I liked their music and owned a couple of their LPs back in those days. They have a web site but I didn't take the time to read much of it. Dan Seals also has a web site.
At any rate, if Baha'i is a cult, I agree we would surely be the pot calling the kettle black wouldn't we.

Yes, I have,in both feet for exactly the same problem you have. It hurts a bit but much less than I imagined it would. Best part was, it ended my pain within about 20 min. and that was 3 years ago.
My doc also suggested a brand of insole that I bought and have used for that same 3 years. I have been pain free and have not needed additional shots since I started using them. My Doc insisted on a brand called Sofsole. DO NOT waste your time or money on the "soft" ones. ONLY the hard plastic ones because as my Doc informed me, it's a matter of of stability and you can't get that with ANY brand of "soft" insole.
Another thing that I considered is that had I known about and tried Sofsole first, I may not have needed the shots at all. You might want to give it a try for a few days.....if the pain goes away, forget the shots!
Price on those will probably be 40-45 which is a lot better than the 3-400 for the custom made set.
Hope this helps and good luck.

Are we obligated to JW family?
by Granny Linda inwhile reading through and posting in unbeliever's thread, this topic came to mind.
personally i do not have any sense of obligation to jw family that still holds to such dogma.
that means it doesn't matter to me that my mother ignores her grandson; and her great-grandchildren.

Good topic Granny Linda.
My parents have never been strong in the 'truth' nor have 3 of my brothers. One sister married into a strong JW family and the other married a man who was devout and considered strong. I walked away over 20 years ago and live out of state. I have a family of my own and seldom see the rest of the family partly because of geography and partly because I believe in letting sleeping dogs lie. Over the years I had several occasions to visit with these family members in their home court and always try to make it a point to keep the visits short and confine the conversation to fluff topics. This isn't the kind of relationship I prefer but it has been better than nothing.I always felt that if I tried to challenge their beliefs, I'd only make things worse for myself. I always assumed that if I opened that can of worms, I'd run the risk of being df'ed somehow and then I'd have absolutely NO relationship with at least my 2 sisters nor my parents. I love my parents and sisters and would do almost anything for them if ever called on to do so and believe that in a case of serious need, I could do the same. If through whatever theocratic, watchtower, JW mumbo-jumbo I were to be df'ed after all these years, I would become the 'enemy' and not just the wayward, misguided son who may "someday come back to the 'truth' ". Of course, I never will and I think they know this. But as long as they haven't been officially banned from associating with me, they haven't broken any rules.
So, are we obligated to JW family? I don't feel obligated to the JW part but I will always feel obligated to the family part just because they are 'FAMILY'. I will never feel differently about this, even if they should someday be instructed by the WTS to totally shun me for the sake of their beliefs. While I can't afford to dwell on it, I do hold out the hope that some day they might find their way to freedom from the Watchtower cult. Reading post on this site over the past year from former JW's from virtually every walk of JW life has helped to fuel this hope. If this never happens, then I'll be thankfull for the what I have. As limited as it is, it's better than nothing.

IF I WAS AN ELDER, I WOULD..............
by minimus infor decades i heard people say "if i was an elder,i would change this or i wouldn't allow that.brothers and sisters alike would always try to get the ear of an elder so as to enact a particular cause.everybody has their own pet peeves in a congregation.
knowing what you know now, if as an elder you could make a major change in the congregation or organization, what difference would you make?.....this is hypothetical so it can be answered by male or female.

I'd replace the sunday Watchtower Study with a page by page review of Crisis of Conscience for as many sundays as it took to make sure everyone understood exactly what it was about.

Swing a metal detector. It's a different kind of "field service". It can eat up a lot of time but it's a heck of a lot more fun and sometimes even profitable. It's kinda like fishing which I also enjoy.

WERE YOU AFRAID OF THE ELDERS?
by minimus inlately, i see a trend going on regarding how congregation members view the elders.
more and more, i hear people say "i wouldn't tell anything to the elders if they questioned me.years ago all an elder had to say is "we want to talk with you" and a meeting commenced.
now, there is a view that the elders can't tell me what to do anymore.

Hello minimus. Took the links from Randy's site a few weeks back. Been lurking for a while. Been an X for many years, long before the www. Didn't realize that I was still so pissed about it all untill I fell under the influence of you evil apostafarians. My story is short and boring, no history of any great interest. Only a little baggage.

Another FNG here. Yes, I was afraid of the bastards. I didn't come from a family "strong'" in the truth, my Dad totally subjected himself to them. So if I got into any kind of trouble at all, and I did fairly often, I knew I couldn't count on him to back me up or lend any support at all. I spent much of my time in the org. hating most of them for the chickenshit, nitpicking, absurd bullshit they came up with. I knew first hand that many of their sons and daughters were getting away with far more serious offenses than I was commiting. So, yes I used to fear them, but not any f'ing more.
