According to Luke he requested "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom"... like if and when....as they were both near death, I don't think he was expecting it that day...

Luke 23:43 the NWT
by Ade inluke 23:43 - and jesus said to him, "positively i say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.
nwt places comma here , giving a totally different meaning to the verse.
now the average jw uses this to back their doctrine and it seems in itself virtually impossible to reason with them on it.

It always annoyed me, back in the days of printed magazines, that whenever there was an 'Awake' article on health care there would always be a footnote stating that they did not endorse or recommend any particular treatment. I felt if that were true then neither should they discourage or forbid any. I think the terms of conditions of the JW App also contain a statement that they are not responsibke for a person's health care choices. The publication of the current bible study book "Enjoy Life Forever' would have been a perfect opportunity for them to quietly "step away" from all the controversial doctrines but no, it's all in there including a full page chart on what blood fractions would or would not be acceptable. I'm now sure the scriptural guideline to abstain from blood only means 'Do not purposely eat it and Do not purposely shed the blood of others' Medical uses have nothing to do with it.

The men were both dying. If a promise was to be made it had to be then and there, as if here, now, today, in our last moments I promise you I will remember you.... This phrasing is not out of line with the way Jesus expressed himself at times, such as Matthew 26:34, John 13:38 to Peter "Truly I tell you before a rooster crows you will deny me... etc, or Matthew 16:28 referring to his forthcoming transfiguration " There are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Kingdom of God coming in its' glory..." both calling attention to the truth of the statement and the time of speaking... I can only go by English translations...

I have not heard of this, though I suppose some hardline elders might ask for it back as the wording -at least on the old card I have - states that the bearer is "one of Jehovah's Witnesses". In our area I don't think they care much about it. It's not like the old days where at a meeting each year everyone was asked to fill out a new one and get it witnessed. We were also told not to call it a " blood card" as it was actually a " no blood card" although the preferred term was Advance Medical Directive. It's also been called a Health Care Proxy and a Durable Power of Attorney. A video shown a while back used all these terms, and I asked an elder if they all mean the same thing but didn't get a clear answer..

My own experience has been somewhat different. Growing up, the joys and tinsel always seemed to dereriorate and tarnish into drunkenness, sickness, and verbal abuse. (Mom getting sick, Dad getting mean). There seemed to be a big disconnect between the celebration and the birth of Jesus, so it was not hard for me to give it up. At that though I have never been Anti-Christmas. I was the only one in my family who studied, so when the brothers came during the holiday season, like it or not, there was a Christmas tree up in the living room. Maybe the witnesses I've known are somewhat more relaxed about this. I've never known any children who lacked toys, or alternate gifts through the year. Certainly my daughter has had them.I really do think all the good things about the holidays, family togetherness baking, gift giving, fun and happiness, can and should be done, on that or any day. I'm not controlled by religion or a calendar.

HOW TO BE LOYAL TO JEHOVAH
by liam ina post from another exjw site, shows how throughout the years, in a regular, systematic fashion, the watchtower has influence thoroughly; an ideological point of view, in the minds of it’s members by using bible scriptures and examples, to get the members to do the unthinkable, even if it clashes with modern ethics.
february 2016 watchtower, paragraph 3 of the article titled .
"learn from jehovah’s loyal servants".

I never can tell if there is really some insidious 'master plan' at work, or if they are just totally clueless. It does seem that sentence could have been purposely constructed to implant the idea that loyaly means "cover it up, don't report" but I also wouldn't be surprised if its' writers weren't oblivious to its implications. They are so insulated and isolated from real situations

I've been "in" 40 years and have had the same job for the last 26. In my early days there I flat out told people I didn't celebrate Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa etc, and it was just accepted. No one ever pressured me and few ever asked about it. When you try to explain why, people don't really understand the reasons, or really even care. Nowadays I have fewer scruples about greetings, people mean them kindly so I just say "Thanks! You too!" .

In his joy of Being. Timeless, Happy and Love, I tend to think God wanted others also to exist with the potential to be the same. Exactly why, when, or how we don't know at present, perhaps some day we will. Eternity is a concept we cannot fully understand. at present
