my husband was listening to a radio station the other day and said there was news that the wts has decided that jesus dying on a cross rather than a stake may not be as far-fetched as they once thought.. have any of you heard this?
i have been cruising the threads to see if there was already one on this subject.
if there is, point me to it!
Cross associated to Pagan sex worship? What the??
Yep. That was brought out many years ago during meetings and even written in the WT. The cross represents the male genitals.
nobody ever said that the end was coming in 1975.. all the hype about this date that has continued all the way down through today came from a talk in the early 70's by fred franz.
in this talk, franz pointed out the significance of the 7 creative days and how they correspond with 1,000-year time intervals.. he then said, "could the end come in 1975?
there's so much wrong with jehovah's witnesses from their rigid legalism to their faux love, but let's call a spade a spade about the 1975 thing..
LL, I hope this copy and paste works. I thought this paragraph was awsome!
bummer it won't paste
In the wt article you posted, the last one, it points out the difference between those that prophesied falsely and the wts. Why they were wrong and the wts is right. LOL! They got their info directly from God that the end was coming in the 70's.
"What was missing?"
"Missing from such people were God's truths and the evidence that he was guiding and using them"
"But what about today?" "Today we have the evidence required, all of it!"

Even if they ever put into the "It Just Doesn't Matter" category they would NEVER be ok with the "cross" because of its pagan symbolism. They associate the cross with sex worship not Jesus.

Watchtower May 15, 1957 pp.313-315 Appreciating Basic Christian Publications:
…The zeal of Jehovah's Witnesses for knowledge may even prompt them to dig back into things that were published long before they came into the truth, expanding and deepening their understanding, and ever growing in Christian maturity. Do you dig into our older publications to expand and deepen your knowledge on subjects about which questions arise? Have you really studied these earlier publications? How is your background of knowledge? Never think: "Oh, I know most of that." For you will find, indeed, that you do not and that you will be strengthened by your additional study...once you have completed your study of them you can then look to even older publications. Only by studying earlier publications and digging back through previous issues of The Watchtower kept in the library at your local Kingdom Hall. There is much in the way of spiritual riches and aid toward mature knowledge in these earlier publications, and their study is most certainly worth your time.

jamie: I know Paul says to "let the marriage bed be without defilement"
Depending on how one chooses to interpret that, Paul could be saying: don't eat crackers in bed.
I don't know what the present "thought" is on that but the last time I attended regular meetings back in the late 90's there were a few making bets that it would be China.
hello everyone....i don't post very often but i read every day.

The WTS IS A BANK. They also offer auto loans. You can buy a used car from their lot. Not sure what you need to do to qualify for a loan. Especially if the end is right around the corner. lol!

*** Awake! 1969 May 22 p.15 ***
If you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system
of things. Why not? Because all the evidence in fulfillment of Bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt
system is due to end in a few years. Of the generation that observed the beginning of the 'last days' in 1914,
Jesus foretold: 'This generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur.' Therefore, as a
young person, you will never fulfill any career that this system offers. If you are in high school and
thinking about a college education, it means at least four, perhaps even six or eight more years to graduate
into a specialized career. But where will this system of things be by that time? It will be well on the way
towards its finish, if not actually gone! This is why parents who base their lives on God's prophetic Word
find it much more practical to direct their young ones into trades that do not require such long periods of
additional schooling… True, those who do not understand where we are in the stream of time from God's
viewpoint will call this impractical. But which is really practical: preparing yourself for a position in this
world that soon will pass away? or working toward surviving this system's end and enjoying eternal life in
God's righteous new order?
