what year was this bible translated?
it doesnt even say who translated it.
did this russel guy get bored and want to start his own religion or something.
UncleBruce What year was this bible translated?I HATED that green cover when I got my first one. I was a little girl at the time and I am only 48 now so I thought it wasn’t actually released into circulation until later, early 60's? Do you know when it was first "delivered" to the congregations as our replacement? From 1950 -1960 and most importantly it had a green cover.

There was a bible - the KJV. There are old translations of the KJV that have the Watchtower name on them
I still have one somewhere in storage. I know my mother still has her copy/copies and will read from them from time to time. I can remember...waay back when my mother was so excited about the NEW Translation of the Holy Scriptures and its debut. I was pretty young but still couldn't understand why we needed...a "NEW" translation?

one of this biggest teachings present in mostly all christian denominations is the idea that the bible is infallibile.
my question is, where does the bible say this?
i know of many scriptures that point to the idea that what was written was directed by god, but where does the idea that what written is totally without error originate?
I know of many scriptures that point to the idea that what was written was directed by God, but where does the idea that what written is totally without error originate?
Not only that but where is it written that everything we are reading in the bible is inspired? There are many scriptures that refer to scriptures being inspired but none that say which ones are and which ones are not. There is no way, in my HP, that all the scriptures printed and read today are all inspired. There has been just waaaaay too much editing going on with the scriptures since they were first written. Not to mention adding too and taking away from. Even entire books! Because some really smart guys excersized free will.
I would be surprised if more then a fraction is inspired. The rest has been polluted over the centuries. It’s like a puzzle now we have to figure out. If it wasn’t then there would be nothing left to debate.

when the society came out in 1966 with the info that 6000 years of man's existence would come to an end by 1975, i thought it was a crock.
for 9 long years, all jws did was speculate about "when" the great tribulation was going to begin.
i always thought of jesus' words about "nobody knowing the day or the hour"----yet jehovah's witnesses figured it out?
I never did. When the Society came out in 1966 with the info that 6000 years of man's existence would come to an end by 1975, I thought it was a crock.
I remember this as thought it were last week. I was still very young at the time and remember feeling terrified at the thought of seeing people standing next to me with their flesh falling off. The horrible visual impressons left by the WT art department were enough to damage any child. I didn't believe it would happen in 1975 , but for many years I did believe it would happen in my life time. Pretty sad to think back on it. I did begin to really doubt the wt because of this 1975 crap though.

just wondering...i know a lot of jw's that went...but did anyone ever say anything about it that you know of?
When we were growing up there were families who watched ONLY Disney movies. Things have changed a lot. I do however remember a time when there was suddenly a stink being made about going to the Haunted mansion. That and the Pirates were my favs as a kid. It was the ONLY time I can remember having fun with my dad. He loved those rides. His absolute faves were The Country Bear Jamboree and It’s a Small World. We would get off the ride and right back on again.
i found this on pravda.

well... the 'fortune cookie' thread got me to thinking about all of the silly things that my mom (and the jws) did when i was growing up.. it has been a while, and so i know that i won't be able to remember all of them.. my mom refused to buy a soft drink named 'sprite' - as its' logo included a small impish-looking fella (a sprite) that wore a bottlecap for a hat.
she claimed it was deemunz.. my mom hesitated to buy fried chicken at a place named 'church's fried chicken', as she wasn't sure if the name meant 'religion', or was a person's last name.. my mom refused to shop at salvation army - cause it would be supporting another religion.. the folks at the local kingdom hall came down hard on my mom cause one of my sisters wore a cute little 'sailor's dress'... it had boat anchors, and other 'sailor' emblems on the buttons, that were considered 'militaristic' by the powers-that-be at the local kh.
(i'm not sure if my mom put on different buttons, or scrapped the dress entirely.
Having something in your house such as a symbol, peace sign, mood ring, old dried up Easter egg, etc.... would invite demons in.

when i joined many years ago, the poster that caught my eye was jjrizo.
i saw his name plastered all over the board.
The Threads that caught my attention at first were the ones started by Farkel YouKnow and Yadirf. The HEATED debates were awsome sometimes! But I guess they just got way to out of hand and ugly. But early on they were quite funny.
As for "posters" GOSH there are MANY! I can't narrow it down to just one.
