I lived in Montana in the mid to late 70's and the cong I was in was okay with it. Moved to Minnesota and it was not okay at all. Went on a bible study in pants with another sister . She fronted me off to the elders and they "counciled me" When I ask it they would be willing to wear a skirt or dress they said no. I then ask if their refusal was because they did not want to freeze their woowoo off they were shocked, ended the conversation and I got the laugh of the century. Bout say it now hu??

Wow. Louis Freed (retired FBI) released a 200 PLUS page independant report on the culpability of the upper rants of Penn State in the Sandusky case and it it was not flattering!!!!! What struct me was the reference that the University knew of the wrong doing for over 14 year and did nothing about it with the excepiton of covering it up. Please everyone follow the media coverage as there seems to be a swich in the overall undertone that more institutions will be under scrutiny. Can you say WTBTS??? I suspected that with the Conti case on the heel of the Penn state situation the media ( TV mostly) had the attidude that of "here we go one more sicko messing with young boys") With Freed"s report I feel that attitude will change. I will do some research on how to get the full report and also will contact the local TV stations in my area to find out suggestions as to the best path to follow. In Freed's report such terms as "persons of trust", "persons in power" and the like were used. Ya think that could apply to the "church"????
The "borg" falls back on the age old cop out of "well we don't want to reproah Jehovah's name....blablabla!!!" What could be more reproachful than a cover up of such magnitude. Also folks don't fall into the thinking that the media is not interested in JW matter because JW are ....(fill in the blanks)
Nuts
cult
small potatoes
etc...
This really needs to be pushed big time. Let me hear back from you all about what you think. How many people do you know who have been violated in such a similar manner??

What brought you here?
by leaving_quietly infolks here all have one thing in common: they are somehow associated with jws, either were one, are married to one, have a relative who is one, has a romantic interest in one, are are currently one.
perhaps you are not one, but something about jws bugs you enough to have found this forum, and read it and contribute to it.
what brought you here?

I came to this site after being ot from the org for years. Actually it was Quendi who is a dear friend told me about the site and I jumped right in. So glad I did. I have received so much great support and advise. I find that the site for the most part is factual, fun and most of all real. As a born in 5th generation gal it has been nice to see that I am not the only one here. Thanks you all for your support

imagine the ancient israelites as they were slaves in egypt, under an oppressive pharaoh.. god brought nine plagues on egypt and then announced a tenth; the firstborn would be struck down.. can you imagine the cry that went out in egypt when the firstborn died, including pharaoh's own son?.

I don't give the org the power. Yeah I hate it. All the crap but I know that moving on was the best thing. I still have family in the box and they are lost to me as I am to them. That is ok. Like any cult the power is what you give it. Take that power away and they have nothing. Channel your hate in a positive way. Never ever fall into old patterns. Passisve, dominated, defensive. Establish healthly boundries, be firm, no BS. And repeat after me you are a wonderful fantastic positive balanced loving great person. ( And yes you really are) Rock Harley Bear Ridin Free

How the Conti case has re-opened a can of worms for me
by Soldier77 ini haven't been one to start a lot of threads and i've actually been gone from this board for about a year only to return after the conti case blew open.
i stopped coming here because i had moved on with my life and really started to put being a jw behind me and stopped concerning myself with it.. my anger and hate of the wtbts had come to a simmer, i don't think it will or would have completely cooled, but then on one fateful morning i awake to an email from my mother.
i haven't talked to my mother in about 6 months as our last conversation was her spouting off how great of a time she was having serving where the need was greater and it was all about her and her husband and jehovah this and jehovah that.

Soldier 77: Wow you hit close to home. I have a dear friend that was assulted by a DO when she was 17. She brought it to the attention of the elders who said 1st that there had to be 2 witness. What??????????????? said she was crazy. She confronted him he denyed it.
I spoke with her today about the Conti case. Gave her the attorneys name and number. I really think she will follow up.
There is a policy of secrecy. I have never come forward about my fathers sexual abuse on me because I know nothing will be done. I do believe in a personal hell and a reconing.......that time will come..... and i will be there to see it.

Way Your JW Parents Embarrass You
by Pig inwhat did your parent do that really embarrassed you while you were in school?.
i think the thing i always hated is when my parents had to preach to my teachers.. in grade 6 we were going to watch jamanji but needed consent form because the film was pg13+ and we were 12. my mum sent me to school with a huge letter about spritism.
i was the only one out of about 45 kids who had to sit out.. .

You're going to love this. I was 15 at a CO assembly. I was very awkard about the whole boy thing. Now being a county girl I had a thing about cowboys. This elder came up to me and said this young brother (who was a cowboy) was asking about me wanted to meet me. Well I was flattered, off guard and a bit giddy. This elder went on and on in front of me and my mother about how nice he was and good looking. As a goof, awkard, shy JW sister I was interested. He played it on and on for the entire assembly. Come to find out there was no good looking cowboy, and my Mom was in kahoots with the elder. I was devistated because of embarrrassment. Never ever told anyone I was in the least bit interested in anyone. Even today can't believe my mother was a part of that humiliation. Also FS in a small town. Everybocy knew me.
My father could not read or write. He made me prepare his M. S. talks with illistrations and he would call on the audience to read scriptures. Going to the Book Study. One brother who knew he could not read would deliberatley call on my father to read. I would pretend he called on me to read. I kept that up from the time my father stared attending the meeting in 1969 until I left home in 1975, Brother was a Giliad grad and his brother is or was a big shot at Bethel. Nice bunch of folks. BU2B Welcome aboard. You as I am sure have already found that this site is full of honest, good, thinking folks that get it!!!! As a born in 5th generation JW finding this place was a blessing. To be able to chat with like minded people , to get outstanding advise, and have some really good laughs has made the leaving so much easier. Like so many out there having a spouse that is still "in the box" is tough. I thank God am married to a non-JW who even though not ever being "IN" really sees the whole picture. Don't push things with her. Give her time and most of all be loving and supportive (as much as you can) with her decision to hang in with the ORG. I have a very dear friend (who is now out) that was in the same spot as your wife. Her hubby just gave her the time and space to make up her own mind and eventually she did leave. The one thing she has said over and over is how grateful she was to her husband that he allowed her to make her journey at her own time. Your wife is a smart gal (afterall she married you) She will come around. Love and Light Harley Bear Ridin Free Zoooooooom
