It's arguably compulsory here, but I think you can get an exemption on religious grounds from the AEC (Australian Electoral Commission). The penalty is a small fine; I've never known anyone who's paid it. People usually don't vote because they forget. We've got local council elections this Saturday here in NSW. They're compulsory too.

What if JWs voted in elections?
by Las Malvinas son Argentinas inall this political banter is exhausting, so i want to ask a question that has probably been asked before, so here it goes….
let’s try to keep this non-partisan - just give your opinion and why you think that way.. i’ll go first.
i think jws would generally lean to the right, but not by a whole lot.

Movies about JWs
by HowTheBibleWasCreated ini have seen many movies or shows that make a passing reference to jehovah's witnesses but very few dwell on jws.
some like a deadly devotion episode i saw once tells a true story but the portal of jws is all wrong.
by movies i am not talking of documentaries.

"Hey, I got a title for a movie about the GB "The Dumbass 8" Lol."
Now that, I'd go and see!
Although it's 9 now. Is that the sequel? 🤔

The HLC do not pressure JWs
by usualusername1 inthe hospital liaison committee (hlc) for jehovah’s witnesses does not pressure members to refuse blood transfusions.
rather, their role is to support jehovah’s witnesses in adhering to their pre-existing religious beliefs, which include a strict prohibition against accepting blood transfusions based on their interpretation of biblical scriptures.. jehovah’s witnesses are well-informed about their stance on blood from an early age, and refusing blood is a deeply ingrained religious conviction, not something imposed during a medical crisis.
the hlc’s purpose is to provide assistance in accessing bloodless treatment options, facilitating communication with healthcare providers, and helping ensure that the patient’s choices are respected.. while the hlc strongly supports adherence to the beliefs of jehovah’s witnesses, the ultimate decision remains with the individual.

"I’ll bet they got in serious trouble for that shit, their lawyers advised them that they were gonna lose badly if they pressed the issue in court, and their charity status was threatened if they didn’t back the fuck off."
It's probably in the heyday of those kinds of shenanigans that first got governments to seriously begin looking at the WT and the way it treats its people. Agitating in the name of pacifism is one thing, but bragging about the kids who've died in obedience to their doctrine* is a whole 'nother ballgame. Doctors having to wake judges up in the middle of the night to get a court order to have a child transfused became such a meme that there's even a Jack Chick comic about it. The GB probably began to feel uncomfortable about the amount of pushback they were receiving** and have gradually been quietening and watering down their stance.
* In a 1990s Awake!
** Kids dying who might have otherwise been saved isn't as glamorous as them sending their young men to prison over Vietnam.

Jehovah’s Witnesses or Jesus Witnesses?
by Vanderhoven7 inkeith writes.
you have just touched on a flawed doctrinal belief that is foundational to false religion.. first, it is important to understand what false religion means when they call themselves jehovah’s witnesses.
by this, they declare themselves to be “witnesses of the father” despite the fact that jehovah is not the name of god at all, but a concoction of human origin from the dark ages.. here is the flaw:.

I always say that they worship a scribal error by a 12th century Catholic monk. 🙄 Probably wrong in part, but arguably closer in accuracy than anything the WT says.

That episode of the Canadian show, The Forest Rangers, about them hunting the wolverine that killed their pet bunnies scared the daylights out of me when I was a kid. 😱

I'm not sure what the legal subtleties are, but in conversations I've had with hospital doctors, I get the impression that they've told the HLC to GTFO more than once.

Thought For the Day - for PIMI JW's
by BoogerMan inwhich name does the evil faithful slave's literature demand that you focus on - jehovah or jesus?.
do jesus & the bible agree with the org's obsession with the name 'jehovah', or was jesus just being presumptuous?
(matthew 10:22) and you will be objects of hatred by all people on account and whoever receives one such young child on the basis of my name receives me.... (matthew 18:20) for where there are two or three gathered together in my name, there i am in their midst.”.

Sorcery = Pharmakeia
by KerryKing inrev18:23 '....you deceived the nations with your sorceries'.. the interlinear for sorceries reads pharmakeia.. bible hub has some interesting definitions, i'll try to share screenshots below.
the gist of it is that sorcery involves drugs/medicines/poisons, with or without spells, sorcery is not the same as witchcraft or divination, or white/black magic.
i have long wondered about the connection between the medical/pharmaceutical industry's symbol of the serpent wrapped around a pole/stake, and the use of the word pharmaceuticals/pharmacy.. considering the common use of fluoride in public drinking water, nsaids with side effects such as depression, brain fog, dizziness, and opioids, mrna gene therapy, vaccines and so on, i wonder am i going mad, are these all coincidences??

It's interesting that the tobacco smoking ban was linked to "pharmakeia". I never thought of that one. Nevertheless, the biblical case for forbidding smoking has always been weak.
I note that the WT allows marijuana these days*. I suppose they don't want to get into that fight with the authorities. Another case of the government tail wagging the WT dog? 🐶 🤔

* With strings attached, of course.

JWlite can be the purple pill
by Teddnzo ini really like the red pill analogy in the matrix.
the one guy wishes he didn’t take the red pill and would have preferred to take the blue pill.. many used to be pimi which is the blue pill and then they wake up to the fact that the gb are not who they claim to be which is taking the red pill.. they go through conflict and confusion as to what to believe now?
does god exist?

In these days of connectivity, do they even need national Bethels anymore? Especially now that printing is on the way out and what little is still being done was outsourced by a lot of the Bethels to other countries anyway. It's conceivable that everything could happen in New York with some very minimalistic branch offices that co-ordinate the management of Kingdom Halls and CO activity.
The only lessening of WT activity that I feel a bit sad about is that they got rid of their own farms. I thought it was kind of nice that they actually provided for the people who worked for them in that way. That being said, I doubt being a Bethelite on the farm was any less lousy than being in Brooklyn Heights. I've noticed that we can get testimonies from exes who worked in the city Bethel, but there aren't many equivalent stories from people who worked within the organisation on the farms. Are there any?
