just a song i really like.
it don't mean nothin' .
i was reading an anti cult reddit post where a woman (ex mormon) was trying her hardest to discourage the mormons from visiting her and trying to convert her back.
a few others chimed in about their various methods (coming to the door naked, pretending to be practicing black magic, etc.
) which they claimed would have the mormons and jws running away as fast as possible.. somehow, i doubt it.

Somehow, I doubt it. Even if now you believe it not to be true, you were probably in for some time and you didn't come down in the last shower 🚿. Did that sort of thing have you running for the exits, or was it more the sort of thing that made you roll your eyes?
jw's are not known for laughter.
there are the rare exceptions.
they are more known for their fear mongering and doomsday scenarios where "the dead shall come to be as manure on the surface of the ground from one end of the earth clear to the other".
As Ecclesiastes 3 says, there's a time for everything. I remember the excessive laughter of the Toronto Blessing in the 90s, where entire congregations would be collapsed on the floor, laughing so much that they couldn't get up. You'd think 6 years of Pentecostalism would have prepared me for that, but there was something in that excess that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
Sometimes a joyful attitude 😊 is a good thing. At other times, quiet and sobre reflectivity 🥺 can be helpful. All things in moderation. 👌
But you're right that being happy is a good idea, SeaBreeze. The second half of the proverb you quote says: "but a broken spirit drieth the bones". In this context, a merry heart is better 🙏.
this is an excellent thread to read that i saw yesterday and the poster hits the nail on the head and tells it so well.
he is really knocking pimi witnesses and has a lot of well deserved criticisms about them.. he says he hopes at this point that they never wake up….
i am inclined to feel the same.
"Well at 97 she went to a senior home and not one of them came to see her. At her funeral a jr elder did her service and not at their hall either. I asked why they said because she was inactive."
97 and in a senior home could be almost anyone's definition of inactive, not just the WT's. What heartless SOBs! 😞

Even if we never see its eventual demise, we've actually seen it in a form. Its founders would not recognise it today, and to a certain extent it refuses to recognise them. How often do they reverently refer to Rutherford? It's changed so much that it is unrecognisable, even from LHG's time in. So in a certain sense, it actually IS dead.
while i'm aware of wt books being revised without noting the differences on newer editions (the truth book is a classic example of this) ... is there evidence of the writing committee revising the online versions of wt articles, as compared to the printed editions?.
if there is a previous thread on this topic, just link it ... as these is no need to reinvent the wheel.. thanks.
"I heard two elders talking about 'present truth' and 'current truth'"
Do they ever talk about absolute truth? For people who believe that there is something called "The Truth", they've got a pretty fluid attitude towards the subject.
(because they told us so in a wt!.

10 - "another reason why many feel there is no place for them in the service of god is due to the clergy-laity distinction that is fostered in the churches.
There's a precedent for deacon, not M. S. You said it yourself.
so just what is the latest directive on shunning?.
asking for a family member.
"Disfellowshipping"". They called it scriptural. But it's nowhere found in the bible. "" That word ""disfellowship"" has been removed from JWBORG's vocabulary in light of what happened in Norway recently."
You got me thinking. Did the WT coin the term themselves? Just as they couldn't use normal church terminology like "pulpit", "bulletin board" and "communion", they couldn't very well use "ex-communicate".
According to the OED, the first recorded occurrence of the word is in the Troy (N.Y.) Watchman newspaper, in 1831. That in itself is interesting. The Watchman seems to have been an anti masonic publication. I wonder if further digging would find any familial relationship or line of descent between the Watchman and the Watchtower. Not very likely, but I find it very interesting, nonetheless.

There's no precedent for MS, CO, DO, Pioneer, etc. and no precedent for counting hours, but you'll find that all in the customs and practices, past and present, of JWs.
The arrogance and hypocrisy of the powers that be at Bethel is breathtaking.
