the only scenario that i can see positive is the abused woman separates from her husband (rightfully so), divorces him and fades away never to be heard from again. her ex husband is left unscripturally divorced and unable to remarry. spares any more women of his abuse and frees her of it all. may be unrealistic but would be great if it was an option.

Here is the funeral talk outline. VERY discraceful.
by stillstuckcruz inthis is truly terrible.
i just love the statement "instead of eulogizing the deceased, use the material in this outline to give a fine witness concerning the truth.
" in other words, utterly disregard the deceased.

one of my very best friends lost her 5 year old last fall and we were completely devastated...i was with her and her husband when he passed and i had to BEG the elder husband of the woman my friend is (unfortunately) studying with to just stop by (it was an f***ing meeting night)!!!!! then it was a nightmare for him to get "permission" to give the funeral talk of a child of a bible study. the talk was that exact outline with no warmth or concern. i was sooooo angry that i let them have it. my friend knows i no longer am a jw and loves me and accepts it completely. i am now in the process of helping her escape their clutches. i NEVER want a jw funeral for anyone i love because it is a load of sh*t. i do not curse but this brings out so much anger that i cant help it...

I just went to the meeting tonight!
by sd-7 ini love it!
out of nowhere, the mrs. tells me that since she has a part tonight and there's nobody to watch the kids, she wants me to come with her to the meeting to watch them while she's on the platform.
i'm actually still supposed to be there, but i went home (5 minutes down the road) for a 'bathroom break'.

wow. u r a better man than i am...wait a minute...i'm a woman lol
more power to ya. i dont know if i could stand it for even a minute. i work with a jw sister and she was singing one of the kingdom songs. in 5 seconds i thought my brain was going to explode. i literally had to stick my fingers in my ears and hum to drown it out and maintain some semblance of sanity. a meeting would most certainly do me in.

I was a pioneer until about 6 months before I stopped going. Except for one elder, never heard from anyone again. Nothing. Pioneered for 7 years. Hosted baby and wedding showers galore. Used my home for tons of gatherings. Then nothing. Really happy actually that they don't care. Makes ignoring them in public super easy.

Who seemed to be shown more forgiveness? Men or women?
by TweetieBird inwhat has been your experience with people you knew that were reproved or disfellowshipped for adultery?
.
i always felt that the brother was treated more mercifully and excused for it, but a sister was totally demonized..

I agree with SophieG...repentance has absolutely NO bearing on the decision. Period.

Women are definitely dealt with more harshly since the org needs the men and there are too many women as it is. That being said it really does depend on the politics of the particular cong and the sets of brothers involved. Having been in at least 7 JC's the politics were different each time depending on those involved. And it's funny because I was only ever in those JC's because I told on myself as a good little born in. Saw virtually every viewpoint and type of discipline. Women are def second class citizens. And as far as a sister approaching 40...I was in my late 30's before I left and attracted men left and right so I don't think that poor woman is doomed because of her age. Maybe doomed to a life of depression from the org but not necessarily from marriage.

what is the earliest age you heard someone get Baptised?
by enigma1863 ini was curious what is the youngest age any jw has been baptised.
i thought it was hypocritical for jws to say wait for marriage because its such a big deal but "why wait to get baptised".
i think my step sister was 11 years old.

an 8 year old got baptized at one i went to and my pioneer school had a girl who was only 10 or 11 so to be at pioneer school she had to have been baptized at least 2 years...making her 8 or 9.

A word of caution
by Socrateswannabe inplease forgive me if you consider this to be presumptuous, i know i am an ultra-newbie here.
but, i see a lot of threads on jwn that read something like, "what is your dog's name" or "where's your favorite vacation spot", "what's your special name for your spouse", etc.
i give the opening posters of these threads the benefit of the doubt that they are creating them simply for entertainment purposes.

i wondered the same thing on another thread and was told that those who are concerned about being found out should limit their personal info so as not to be outed by an over zealous pitbull elder. dont know how that would work since they would have to admit being here themselves and then PROVE it but apparently it has happened to some.

i dated a bit. nothing crazy. i am way more boring out of the cult. a former bf told me that i am finally vanilla instead of rocky road. no drama without religion. religion caused 99% of all angst in my life. no more meds. no more depression. no more wacky crazy situations akin to a soap opera. nothing. i love my life now for a change and feel true inner peace. i have a wonderful boyfriend and have an amazing, guilt free sex life. and i am able to devote more time to actually HELPING others instead of peddling books.
