Deep Down Inside, Are You Prejudiced???
by minimus inif you can be really honest with yourself, do you think that you exercise prejudice at times?
are you a person that makes disparaging remarks about certain groups because they are different from you?
if you feel that you're not a prejudiced person, do you see yourself stereotyping?
-

Prejudice is defined: an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason......unreasonable feelings, opinions or attitudes esp. of a hostile nature, directed against a racial, religious or national group.....Webster
Well, I am with Happyout and Orbiting.... I don't like someone when they do something to make me dislike them. I don't care what color or background they come from. Heck, if I listened to my mother, I would believe all _______ were__________. Fill in the blank with any racial/religious/national and a behavior and she will come up with a *standard* of how *those people* always *do that*. I hate that type of stereotypeing.

Marriage Problem
by voxel ini am a "worldly" person, not of any religion and am soon to be marrying a long-term disfellowshipped jehovahs witness.
she has not been of the religion for over a decades time and seemingly her immediate family has accepted this through the years.
we've traveled across country together so she could introduce her family to me and have not had any problems.

Hi Voxel and Welcome to the Board...perhaps you can get your fiance reading and posting also?
I was raised in the JWs and drifted out....all of my mothers family are JWs. I was baptized, however, never DFd, though I am treated as such.
When I met my *worldly* boyfriend and decided to get married, our respective mothers had much to say. His mother is Catholic and mine die hard JW. Neither would allow us to be married in their *church* because:
1. I was previously divorced so I could not be married in a Catholic church
2. He was not a JW so he could not be married in a Kingdum hall.
We solved the problem with a Justice of the Peace.
We rented a two reception rooms; got married in one and had the reception in the other. We had all of our real friends. Only a few JWs attended. They were very close friends of my mothers. My mother did attend. She danced the night away; No JWs to monitor her behavior.
My advice: DO NOT Become a JW to have a wedding. Have a wedding without them. Do not be blackmailed into becoming a JW. It is not worth it.
I have been married for 15 years. We still remember our wedding....as one hell of a good party.
If you have JWs there, it will be stuffy, boring, dull and bland. Plus, they will want to make it a pot-luck. Yuck. Can you spell Salmonella? Do you really want all that on the happiest day of your life?

Some information, of course, will be taken and understood by other secret members and it's a good place to get an update on particulars going on with the Messiah, but for the most part the vital knowledge needed by the Bride Class has been dispensed and is found elsewhere.....
So am I a Bride Class or a secret member?
How would I tell the difference?

College and EX-JW Discontent....Questions and Stats
by teenyuck in*many* ex-jws say that they were robbed of an education due to the wtbts and as a result, they feel that their families and the wt screwed up their life by depriving them of the opportunity to go to college and therefore, earn a high salary at a job they love.
here is a link to the us census which shows that approximately 26% of the us population graduates college.
page 5, towards the bottom, shows the college graduation stats.

The WT has not changed it's tune much....still down playing the positive effects of an education (Excluding the *Education* we all got from the Awake!).
I cannot reiterate enough....no one is too old to learn or go back to school. You don't have to go back for financial gain. Go for personal growth. Go to learn something you never really understood. Take a 100 level class at a community college. They are inexpensive and you will meet wonderful people who have the same goal.
Expanding their minds.
You proved you can by walking away from the KH.
