Just like 1975. It just keeps getting brighter and closer to the corner.
Anezthy, that's witty. Why don't you submit that line to the GB for the next theme of the summer conventions?
given that the printed word is forever and cannot be erased do the writers get into trouble for the embarassment they cause ?
every mistake results in someone today or tommorrow or nnext year and so on losing faith which is a disasyer for the org.
how do they hope to control these errors and prevent them from happening in the future.?

before i express my opinion to the readers and contributors to this website (www.ex-jw.com), i would like to explain who i am and to present my bona fides as someone qualified to comment on this website and jehovah's witnesses in general.. first of all, i am an active jehovah's witness living just outside of new york city.
being a large metropolis, new york has many kingdom halls located within the city and several more in surrounding boroughs, counties, and suburbs.
or all you wrote, basically I say, P** off unless you plan on Manning up and walking in our shoes. Yes a lot of us are upset , some of us have had horrible things happen to us. We might seem crazy to you but if your g t randdaughter is molested by an elder and it is covered over- come back and tell us how you feel then. Or your wife raped and the rapist is still an elder, tell us how you feel.. Otherwise, don't preach to me, Pharisee.
and I don't care if my grammar is not good or I use too many comas, take a flying leap
Violia, I agree with your sentiments. I am sorry you have suffered so much from the actions of those in the org. I also do not have much respect for someone who has not “manned up” to his convictions and then attempts to advise those of us who have “manned up” (at great cost to ourselves) on how we should conduct ourselves. The more I have considered his article, the more offended I have felt. My opinion of him is that he is a pompous a__! I understand the each of us has the right to express our opinion, but if you put your opinion out there, others have the right to voice a rebuttal.
Here are a few of the things I found offensive.
The author, “Shadow Elder” presents his “bona fides.” He is an active Jehovah’s Witness who lives “just outside of New York City…right next to the Brooklyn Bethel headquarters.” What does this mean and why is it relevant to his “bona fides?” Does living “right next door to the Brooklyn Bethel headquarters” convey some special knowledge or understanding, through osmosis perhaps, greater than that of Jehovah’s Witness who are far removed by distance i.e. live in Wichita, Kansas or Seattle, Washington? Is the “Holy Spirit” not able to convey this knowledge and/or understanding beyond the NE corridor of the USA? “
“If you want to know what “average Jehovah’s Witnesses are thinking, New York and New England would be a good place to start.” What are you saying? Should we conclude that Jehovah’s Witness in others parts of the USA are not “average” or do they not think?
The author tells us that he is in his mid-fifties, married, has five adult sons, owns his own home and drives an old car with four doors (uck) that is perfect for using in field service activity. He’s getting by on his salary but he is not rich. Why is this relevant to the discussion? Does owning a home and having children add to an individual Jehovah’s Witness’ credibility, and if it does, why is this so? Does not being single and childless give a JW more time to devote to serving Jehovah and the WBTS. Is a person renting a home or apartment somehow less credible than one who owns his own home? I never knew these were prerequisites for credibility in judging the pros and cons of internet web sites. Jesus did not have children or own a home. Does this detract from his credibility?
Mr. Shadow Elder next tells us that he and his parents have been long life faithful witnesses, his father “professed to be of the anointed class” but his mother did not. He himself has held a variety of positions of authority in the congregation.
Is this supposed to impress. It does not impress me! Perhaps I am being petty, but the tone of his article is pompous and condensending. As for his being in a
crisis of conscious, we've been there, done that!
my wife who is in a never ending study seems to be learning a lot about 'headship' lately, and i notice that this weeks okm shows that once again on tms night they are going to emphasize the principles of headship from the reasoning book, page 253 in the english version..
An elder's wife once said to me that because my husand was not active in the orgainzation, the elders could tell me what to do. I didn't belive her( I was a mere 19, should have been rebellious, but I wasn't). I did not dispute her allegation.
Years later my husband asked me (in a sarcasic tone)"When did you get so independent and smart?"I answered "When I left the organization, went to work, and got my University degree!". Now I say "I am the boss of me!" I feel just like that
song."You can't even run your own life, I'll be dammed if you'll run mine!"
DLL, you are so right! They are terrified of any independent woman. And we can be such an asset to them! What are they thinking?
Witless men are terrified of a strong independent single woman, so they pry into your personal life where they have no right to and ought not.

Honesty and anezthy, I am in total agreement with your analysis of "Shadow Elder's" article. The "Truth!" Really? According to WHO?
anyone had three elders (judicial committee) question you on sex before marriage?.
case in point, being raised as one of jehovah's witnesses, i partied with peers that were witnesses by tradition, inherent faith.
at the age of eighteen (1992), i was conversing about the elders with a group of witnesses, and a girl who had been before a judicial committee chimed in and said, they ask questions that are none of their fucking business.
Are you joking! They really enjoy (wanted to say something else) getting into your personal sex life. You would not believe what the congregation overseer
asked me about sexual practices. I was so appalled I never told anyone about it until I was in my late thirites. I had not even heard about what he asked
asked me.They like to delve into details.I think they could get into trouble for how they behave.
ok soi grew up in the religion and i remember so often the churches being slammed at the meetings for passing the plate and how they shamelessly begged for money.
how we as jehovah's witnesses are so much better because we never ask for money and the contribution box is sort of hidden in the back of the hall like we were even embarrassed to have to have that.
just the word contribution was so much better than the words the worldly churches used.
I am intensely curious as to who IS profiting the most from this "shell game" masquerading as a religion....???
It may be the families of the ones who formed the the corporation at the beginnning. I remember years ago,one of the daughters of one of the orignial corporation members writing about how the President of the Organization came to their
house and celebrated Christmas when the R/F did not celebrate. I think it was the Judge. I have always felt they were the main ones getting the money. I could be wrong but I would sure like to know. As has been stated, those GB members
have it made. If I had a credit card with no limit and I didn't have to make the payments, I would be flying high. And as someone pointed out, they like the POWER!!
belshazzar was the son of nabonidus the king.
darius i was a persian king who reigned after cyrus from 522 to 486 bc.
he succeeded the son of neriglissar, labashi-marduk who reigned for only nine months and was put to death in a conspiracy.. .
I haven't but I will; am going to print your post so I can have it as background infor. I hate to read online. Sounds interesting.

I would like to say I am surprised but after so many years in the organizaiton, I have seen so much meaness from the elders that I can not see how these "elders" can appoach God in prayer without feeling shame. My poor little mother used to put all the money she got from "selling" the mags in the contribution box. We did not have a lot of money, but she felt she should give it back to God. She bled to death because I chose to honor her belief of not accepting a blood transfusion. I think these elders get off on being oppresive and using their authority in dealing with the members of the congregation. They have no standing in the outside world, usually no,or little education, but they are big shots in the congregation and they play up that role as much as they can. When I was very young, there was a sister whose son was at Bethel; this was in the mid 50s. The congregation servant, an arrogant man, somehow caught her complaining to someone else about him. She was disfellowshipped. She took it real hard. She attended all the meetings faithfully. One night, at the meeting, she started screaming during the meeting, like she went crazy. The ambulance came for her. She died a little while after that. I don't know, but I think the stress of her disfellowshipment killed her. She was a nice lady who left a husband and six children behind. Most of the children remained JWs. I never forgot that night.
I am sorry that you and that sister were treated so badly by that person. Fortunately, I got to tell a CO, who knocked at my door knowing full well that I had been df'd, what I thought of the organization and that I would never return to that place again. I was very well known in my curcuit, several of my nephews and cousins are Bethelites and DO but I still told them what I thought of them.
how many of you feel that being a jw is like being in an abusive relationship?
what do you think are the similarities?
the differences?
One of the differences I see is that the wbts cannot beat you physically. If they could, they would probably burn us at the stake or put us on the rack! They behave just like inquisidors i.e. Judicial Committes. Would anyone else but a JW
put up with that? We have lived under an opressive regimen while in the midst of "the land of the free and the home of the brave." They trample all over our constitutional rights. I just read the book "Gods Jury" and could not help but
see the similarities between the organization and the Inquisition.

bangalore.
.
All I can say is "we're mad and we're not going to take it anymore." The wbts has taken our youth and, if you dare leave, they take all of your family and friends away from you. I gotta say, it takes guts and unbelievable strength to survive without any support, but you know what? it's possible to reinvent yourself and live a fullfilled life. The wtbts did not break me, when I left, it gave me a chance to live my life under my rules. I'm thankful that I had enough brains to leave. My older brother left long before I did but I always thought he was crazy because he lived in Dallas, you know how crazy those city folks are, now I think just like him. I also live in a very small town. We have brains too!
