its one of way of acknowledging a poster's presence on jwn from the perspective of fellow posters.

I am still a newbi and these threads go so fast, I don't know all the posters well, but I will give a few comments

compound complex - a great writer with a large and interesting vocabulary; and he's also an artist! Have learned a lot of new words reading his writings.

FlyingHighNow - very knowledgeable and kind lady. I always read her comments.

coffee_black - haven't seen a lot of her posts but I love her name. I think she has all her family out of the borg. Lucky her.

sammielee24 - interesting comments, knowledgeabe and has an interesting history/background.Have exchanged e-mails with him or his wife.

AK- Jeff - / Jimmy Page - both of these posters ask perceptive questions in their comments

snowbird - nice lady that helped me get on the trivia page. She has recently been playing and is very smart.

yknot - great comments and she is nice. Just read her comments on the ecomomy. She is upbeat.

ChristAlone - has been posting quite often and is also knowledgable. I always read his posts.

Theocratic Sedition - also a frequent poster, controversial poster but he make threads interesting.

Hortensia - new poster to me, as I am new. She appears to be a learned person.

tornapart - sensitive and sincere lady. Refused to go preach in a drug-ridden neighborhood. Smart woman. What were they thinking sending her there!

Vidiot - deep thinker. Went back and read some of his posts.

Quarterback - perceptive, not easily fooled. Asks the right questions.

ShirleyW - mischievous, and knowledgeable. Defends her position and knows a thing or two about a thing or two, what can I say, she's a New Yorker!

tiki - lovely lady that cares about others. She's nice.

nancy drew - great poet. Can write a poem at the drop of a hat.

Mr. Falcon - very nonchalant, 007 like.

There are so many intelligent and perceptive posters here. I wonder why I never met any smart jws before I got here? Some of you could intimidate me but I chose to learn from you rather that let myself be intimidated. I know as much as you'all about growing up and living as a jw, (except being an elder) but then there's all that other stuff on here you'all post about that makes me think "Oh! that's intense!"

PPanhandle Girl - I hope you arent checking your 401k balances daily or even weekly.....the ups and downs can drive you mad!! quarterly works....annually even better - you get a more realistic picture of the growth.

tiki, I only check it quarterly, but I keep up with the business news and what the markets are doing. I am also old and will probably have to work until my body gives out. Although, I don't mind working. My dad worked full time until the age of 75, he was afraid to retire because he thought he would die. Many of his retired coworkers died soon after retirement.

mrqick, I'm still paying in. I think you will be able to collect but I guess others won't. When my dad retired, five of us children were paying into the system, now I guess, there are not enough people paying in to sustain SS, although, I realize that the govenment is taking SS money for other purposes. Before things started going down the tube, I thought it was a good thing to allow non-citizens to work here and pay taxes so there would be more people paying into SS. Now, there are not enough jobs to go around for Americans. I hope things improve, even if the growth is slow.

I think the economy will get worse, especially if we keep spending and don't get the deficit under control. I know the markets are concerned about going over the fiscal cliff. I hope all three branches of the government work together and come to whatever compromises needed for the sake of the nation. I know my 401K lost a lot of money since last Tuesday, but the market is supposed to improve, at least that's what I hear. I do think the housings is improving some. I sure hope we don't continue losing jobs. McDonalds sales just dropped for the first time since 2003. Doesn't sound good.

so it was only my mother, two of my sisters and i that had to move.

you cant really play soccer by yourself.. i turn to the jws for friends but there were no kids my age and kids a few years older than me started to hate me.

i liked the elder saw him as my dad i didnt want to say no.

Very interesting story, atrapado. My jw family attend the Spanish Congrgations, and one is a DO in Cali. I like the name you chose for yourself. Looking forward to part 2 of your story.

i think this forum's best moments can be attributed to the involvement of actual jw's in doctrinaire discussions and to heated (though not always dialectic) debates.

ethos,Welcome to JWN. The discussions should prove interesting. Because you are still in the borg, I will pretend that you are a member of my uber jw family and consider what you believe and why. As Loubelle stated, we have already considered these doctrines thoughly and they have been rejected.I recommend the book "The Gentile Times Reconsidered" by Carl Olof Jonsson. It's a heavy read but informative. There is also a site, I forgot how to get to it, but others here can direct you there, where you will find some great essays discussing wts doctrine. The only two names of those whose writing may be found there are Farkel and and Alan F, don't recall the last name but it's a long name. I have found that site to be excellent reading.

If you ain't been one, you can't begin to grasp it all.

DOC, that is so true. That's why JWN is so important. We have all been there and understand why we get nuts and how difficult things can get.

American Elections - From an outsider

i am not huge into politics but i follow the american elections and kind of keep my finger on it.

i have my own strong views on sa politics.. i just want to applaud you, the american people for going about your elections in a very fair, democratic and peaceful manner.

it certainly came across very polished and well run.

I grew up with images of fire hoses turned on children. De facto segration was alive in the South. Police dogs were turned on peaceful demonstrators. It gives me hope for my issues.

BOTR, I grew up with the same images. I could not believe what I saw on tv. Those were such tumultuous times; from the images of young American men dying in the fields of Vietnam, the assassination of John and Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Malcom X, Medgar Evers, and the killing of the young men in Mississippi and those protestors at Kent State, it was almost too much to absorb. I witnessed these events from the vantage point of a small Texas town. The events were so surreal. When I was moving from Texas to the Southeast coast, my brother and I went through Selma and Birmingham, Alabama. As we went through those those cities, I remarked to my brother:"Do you realize we are in the heart of the battle for civil rights?" I almost wanted to stop and do homage to those brave souls who forced change on the US.I don't think I would want to have lived in any other age. This one has been wrought by so much turmoil, but good things have also been accomplished by some brave souls. I hope things will get better for all of us in the future.

CoCo, your writing is intriguing. I like the way you ascribe personification to the air. I love to watch the moon and it's different phases so I enjoyed your use of the moon and stars.

I can picture myself experiencing what you are writing.
