Thanks for posting that Simon. I saw that magazine on my mom's bookshelf the other day,but didn't dare open it for fear my mom would think I was interested in the "troof" again!
I just love the way they always put a negative spin on things like this. Instead of focusing on all the charities that have helped so many people, they focus on ones that misappropriate funds. It seems to me the main purpose of that article was to give JW's permission to wipe their hands clean of helping others in a monatary way. They can just keep preaching to others and not feel guilty when they don't hand over a dollar or two to help one in need. Sad, very sad.

Damn kids ... or am I getting old?
by Simon inwe bought the "simpsons road rage" game a few months ago, mainly for the kids.. if they've been playing before they went to bed then me and angharad have had a few gos in the evening and have been competing for the high score.
over the last few week, we've traded it and nudged it up until angharad reached an unattainable 9,100 points.
eventually, after hours of dedicated thumb twiddling i managed to beat it with 9,300 and then push it out of rech with 11,300. i was the champion.

My kids kick my butt on "Simpsons Road Rage" too! It seems they don't have to concentrate at all either!
I chalk it up to old age. I just think that some day they'll be old too, and their kids will beat them at other stuff.

I'm so sorry
How sad that his family missed out on loving their brother because of their blind faith to a hateful religion.
Maybe sometime in the future you can reach out to his widow and see that he was able to find happiness away from the org.

Wolfy- I just love Evanessance too, the lead singer has a beautiful voice.
JoannaD- you have great taste in music! I love Liz Phair too.( although I'm not sure which older album I like better, "Whip-smart" or " Exile in Guyville" ).
I have certain artists that I can't stop listening too, like Garbage, Ben Folds Five, Beastie Boys, RemyZero, just to name a few.
Albums that I can't live without? Well I have replaced ( twice each ) DefLeppards Greatest hits, and ABBA's Greatest hits when they stopped working from overuse. Oh yeah, and Phantom Of The Opera too.

I was in that same position a few years ago. I did what 95stormfront did, and told my husband like it was.I told him I would no longer be going to meetings anymore. He was very unhappy about this, but he has gotten used to it. For me the biggest problem is having kids in the mix. That's what makes it hard for me. If you and your spouse really love eachother, your relationship will survive this. You have to be true to yourself first though, it's no use pretending.

Were You Successful In The Ministry?
by minimus ini know of very few people that helped bring people in the "truth".
even those who concentrated on their own families usually realize that their children do not want the "truth".
most publishers were disorganized with regard to their return visits and house-to-house records.

I certainly wasn't successful from the Orgs point of view. Now that I'm out I consider myself successful in NOT getting anybody into the org.
I auxiliary pioneered often, out of duty, but I hated it. I always knocked softly, hoping the householder wouldn't answer the door. I always let my companion have the houses that had cars in the driveway. I hated return visits, and I would do them when I knew they probably weren't home. I had one return visit that if I saw her car in the driveway, I would say it was her boyfriends car, and that he hated witnesses, lol.
The only person my mom ever brought into the org became an apostate a few years later. That always makes me laugh! She doesn't find it amusing though, hee hee.

xjw_b12, have the teachers ever looked into the fact that maybe you're child behaves this way is because he isn't being challanged enough? Many gifted children act up in class because the work isn't challanging enough. If he is finishing his assignments before all the other children, are they giving him other work to keep him occupied? What kid wouldn't be a little antsy when bored?

Funkyderek,
I certainly don't disagree with you. Many times kids who don't pay attention or are hyperactive, are all put into one group. That is wrong too. I do feel that many children are misdiagnosed. And this is unfortunate, because it makes it that much harder for the children who really do have it. Notice how so many of the children diagnosed with ADHD are boys. Is this because people just can't handle all their energy, so they immediately put them on drugs because it is beneficial to the parent? Probably so. But again, this just makes it all the more difficult for those that really are suffering from it.
To properly diagnose a child, one has to go through a lot of testing. This usually involves testing at school level, and also through a medical doctor not associated with the school. If there are cases where the school is saying the child is ADHD, and a doctor just takes their word for it,and then puts the child on meds, that is extremely unfortunate.
I just find that comments made to lump everyone together, can be very hurtful to those dealing with such issues. It tends to hurt those who have tried everything in their power to help a child who deals with this, only to be told this doesn't even exist. ( note to Sheila, I know you didn't say this doesn't exist, you were just letting people know how harmful some of the drugs can be ).
