i am looking for scriptures that refer to the correct way of worship (and i am sure it will not include reference to watchtower material).. i am currently studying the watchtower with some jw's in our area, but have serious reservations about their lack of communal worship that does not include complete readings from the bible.

reading a chapter and then using the watchtower to back it up instead of using the bible to backup the teachings of the watchtower).. the watchtower is not divinely inspired so how on earth am i going to get anything of value out of it.

i'm a 24yr old non-witness who has been dating a 23yr old witness.

we met through a mutual friend.

when i met him i thought he was sweet and kind and the kind of guy i could see myself with for the rest of my life.

If you become a JW you can expect the following:

1. No more birthdays, Christmases, Easters, Halloweens, Thanksgivings. Period.

2. You can join OK, but try to get out if you change your mind? You will be marked and shunned by everyone JW, even the ones you thought were your friends.

3. All love is conditional there are strings attached.

4. If you raise a child to be a JW, that child will be absolutely miserable because of all the things they have to abstain from in school, in addition to the holidays I mentioned, joining clubs, playing sports, joining the band, etc., all "discouraged" (translate: forbidden).

5. You will be watched like a hawk, and if you dont put in enough hours every month going door to door peddling JW literature, if you miss too many meetings (5 hours PER WEEK), if your skirt is too short or sweater too low-cut, you will be reprimanded, and this can be a PUBLIC reprimand, too.

6. You are expected to forfeit your life, and that of your child, should either of you ever need a blood transfusion, you are expected to say NO even if it means you or your child will die.

7. You are not allowed to vote, serve in the military, salute the flag, or smoke,

8. Going door-to-door deserves another mention; it is an absolutely miserable activity knocking on peoples doors who are NOT glad to see you interrupt their Saturday morning, in all kinds of weather. This activity also costs you money; you are expected to pay for the stuff you sell and then turn in the profits, too plus gasoline and car repairs. You are also expected to schlep others around that dont have their own car. JWs believe they must do this in order to be saved.

I've only been posting a short while, but lurking a lot longer. I take it you still go to the KH? May I also assume you do it for family?

I guess I want to know, how do you stand it? I mean, listening to that stuff... going to the hall... do you go out in service?

Not that I don't appreciate hearing stuff from the "inside," I DO! I just wondered, hope you don't mind my asking. If you do, just tell me to mind my own dang bidness!

ADVICE NEEDED

a friend of mine called me today to tell me that the elders want to meet with her regarding something that happen in feb. she was seen smoking at a bar by two other witnesses.

she was privately reproved about a year ago for some "misconduct with a guy".

but since then hasnt gone to the meeting.

Meet with them and tell the elders how sorry you are and ask forgivness, then as you leave just ask if anybody has a light.

I got busted for smoking once too. Tears and "I'll never do it again" worked like a charm. That was when I had family I was *scared* of, e.g. MOTHER=GOD. Now? I'd tell them to piss off, but that's easy for ME to say now, I have no family left.

Events leading to Great Tribulation

i have believed that the great tribulation begins with some sort of nuclear attack on the united states.. events are emerging which increase the probability of such an event.. the archrivals at the end scene are the us and russia.

russia is in a dire state.

its economy hangs by a thread.

Hey! Who declared this new calendar? Sheesh, first we had B.C., then A.D., then the new millenium, now we're counting Year 1 from 9/11?

Speaking as a native NEW YORKER, I'm sorry to have to be the one to break this to you, but if they nuke NY there goes Bethel and the precious GB. There goes the U.N. There goes poor me, PurpleV.

I SAW the World Trade Center burning. I SMELLED the destruction. I LOST a cousin, a brave firefighter who saved many other lives.

This wasn't biblical. This was FANATACISM to the max, by rabid Al Quaeda members intent on destroying the U.S. and Israel. They were never mentioned in any of the WT "prophesies" as being the perpetrators of "the beginning of the end."

If they destroy the U.N. with a nuke strike on NYC, then all of the WT "prophesies" go bye-bye.

Not for nothing, but I'm not fleeing to South America. I only speak a *teense* of Spanish. Who would feed my cats if I left?

If they 'do' New York, everyone else is not far behind. The whole world will self-destruct. There won't be a JW or anyone else left.

I'd rather go first so I don't have to witness the rest of it.

LOCAL NEEDS: Let's Auxiliary Pioneer

we were helped to appreciate the wonderful blessings from auxiliary pioneering.we may not be able to get to visit the householders, especially when it's pouring rain or snowing, but at least we can warm up in the car and enjoy upbuilding association in the car with the heater on.........that's it in a nutshell.

PurpleV, LOL! Set up returns visits for when you knew they would not be home. Who woulda thought?

Yup, and leave a couple of old mags at the door and not only count the time but placements go up!! Ranks right up there with pretending to depress the doorbell!

My mom's got me beat, though. She counted the time she studied with ME as a child before I was dunked!!
