The Watchtower should have excused itself seven fold for all there mistakes. I guess they are not humble enough.

No, no, no! We've NEVER EVER made a mistake. It's all the rank and file's fault for misunderstanding what was implied!

And, and... um... don't forget, we're TACKING into the wind! So reversing ourselves makes PERFECT sense!

Just because we advised on selling your home and full-time ministry in the early 70's, didn't mean we, umm... said we were POSITIVE the Big A was coming in 1975. If you lost your shirt and now have no retirement plan or education, that's your own fault!

Sheesh! You obviously have too much time on your hands if you have doubted The Organization! Get thee out in service more, and study harder!!

first, thank you, lucy, for replying to my other post regarding my wedding.. it was a very tough and rough to reach "the wedding ceremony".

as my mother-in-law put it, "it was a struggle".

Harrison Ford made a movie in my building once, so did Al Pacino.

Law & Order shoots in my nabe all the time. Once they filmed in my apt. building's lobby.

Rudy Giuliani came to my (firefighter) cousin's funeral (9-11)

While he was still searching for truth, one evening in 1869, something happened that reestablished Charles' wavering faith. Walking along near the Russells' store on Federal Street, he heard religious singing coming from a basement hall. In his own words, this is what took place:

Seemingly by accident, one evening I dropped into a dusty, dingy hall, where I had heard religious services were held, to see if the handful who met there had anything more sensible to offer than the creeds of the great churches. There, for the first time, I heard something of the views of Second Adventists [Advent Christian Church], the preacher being Mr. Jonas Wendell . . . Thus, I confess indebtedness to Adventists as well as to other denominations. Though his Scripture exposition was not entirely clear, . . . it was sufficient, under God, to re-establish my wavering faith in the divine inspiration of the Bible, and to show that the records of the apostles and prophets are indissolubly linked. What I heard sent me to my Bible to study with more zeal and care than ever before, and I shall ever thank the Lord for that leading; for though Adventism helped me to no single truth, it did help me greatly in the unlearning of errors, and thus prepared me for the Truth.

Keeping it in perspective

i've just joined up to silentlambs.

basically i still consider myself a jw, although i'm no longer active.

i do frequent the odd sunday meeting tho, as i still consider 95% of it to be the truth.

I just can't get my mind around the fact that JWs and their apologists can justify doctrinal flip-flops by saying the organization is made up of imperfect men, and yet turn around and say out of the other side of their mouths that it's Jehovah's spirit-directed organization. That is doublethink in its purest form.

If this is truly God's channel, why must there be "new light" and "adjustments?" Why would God give out "old light" in the first place, only to change it?

And I'm not talking nit-picky things, I'm talking life or death matters, like "this generation will not pass away." Now we have a new meaning for "generation." What comfort to those who gave up college and 401K plans who will now die in poverty. Thank you for the new light, Lord!

How about organ transplants. Blood fractions. Vaccinations. How many people died before this "new light" surfaced?

It makes no sense.

Preaching the kingdom or what?

i was at the meeting on sunday and one brother mentioned how jws are heeding the scripture at matthew 24:14, you know, about the kingdom being preached, and he said how in every corner of the world jws are now found and it's a fulfillment of the scripture.

then the thought struck me that if that were true, then when people think of jws they should think "god's kingdom".

not in my experience, as when going from door to door or what colleagues at work have said.

Most people who I've encountered think of JW's as some sort of misguided sect, they focus on the fact that they will die and allow their children to die without blood, and how annoying it is to be bothered early on weekend mornings. Other than that, they don't know much, nor do they care.

?perfect mind?perfect looks?perfect health?perfect house?perfect intellect?perfect happiness?perfect knowledge?perfect government?perfect infrastructure?perfect loving marriage?perfect spectacular sex?perfect standard of living?perfect specimen of a body?perfect prosperous happy world?perfect infinite lifespan with all the above?.

on top of all this the frosting on the cake is earth becoming a perfect planet where every square inch of surface area is like a lush botanical garden.. i dare anyone to tell me with a clear conscience they would not want all of this and look forward to wonderful things that surpass the scope of our imaginations.

By following that road and passing through that gate we enter the kingdom of God under the auspices of his Son, Jesus Christ. From then on out, we will find the true meaning of life in a loving relationship with Christ, and these wonders shall never cease.

Gee, that sounds nice. But, do I have to allow the Watchtower organization to insert itself into this lovely picture? Or can I have a great relationship with God and His Son by myself, just as the Bible promised?

I've seen this topic debated/mentioned on other threads. But I'm wondering if I'll get any JW apologists on this one.

Question 1:

What makes the Governing Body (comprised of elderly "gentlemen" who have never owned a home, held a secular job, raised children, struggled with a marriage, gone out in service with any regularity, worried about health insurance, housing, taxes, military service, or their pension,) think they have the right to dictate such stringent rules to all these millions of people who don't have the protection of "Bethel" and are just struggling to survive and please "Jah?"

Question 2:

Why, after all the history in the Middle East, including Israel, Iraq, Iran, Turkey, Egypt, Rome, etc., would God choose to renew his communication with mankind (after approximately 1900 years of silence), to some freaky white male escapee from the Seventh Day Adventists in Brooklyn? (That would be Charles Taze Russell, to any new JWs who may not know the whole true history of their organization. Go look it up.)

By The Watchtower's Fruits, You Will Know Them

the society has for years loved to quote the scripture found in mt.

7:20...."by their fruits you will know them".

christendom and its clergy has been denounced because of their "rotten" fruitage.believers of the watchtower truly believe that the fruitage of jehovah's witnesses is the finest available.

being a JW was more than a burden, it was cruel and unusal punishment.

AMEN! It really is. Especially for children. What I can't understand is grownup JW children having children of their own, knowing what they're going to go through. Is the human instinct to reproduce so strong that people will do it even knowing they are introducing their children to a torturous existence?

I guess it's true; ergo so many children reproduced in starving countries; to other cults; in ghettoes; etc., where one really has nothing to offer their kids, but they have them anyway.

I have no children, mainly because I could not bring myself to raise one as a Jw. By the time I was finally "free" of the cult, I was past my prime childbearing years, and was single, so I did not have kids. I'm 44 now and won't have any, and that's mainly because I "couldn't bring myself to have a child and not raise it in the truth and see it annihilated at Armageddon," and "I'm not having a child and raising it the way I was raised!"
