  The current level of airport "security" does nothing to address the real problem(s).

  It may make some people feel better about flying, because they think that the airlines are secure. But like a good magic show, it is just smoke and mirrors, and the reality is very different from the fantastical appearance.

  Making people drink fluids to "prove" they are not dangerous? What a croc of horse manure. There was a story like this a while back about a young kid who had pond water samples and was forced to drink it. Of course, he was sick for days.

  What weapon(s) did Sept 11 terrorist use? Mostly planning and cunning, and most of all.... The AIRPLANE!!!!!... and a few snap-off blade style box cutters.

  They could do the same thing tomorrow even with the new "secure" airports, only substitute poly-carbonate blades (which are not picked up on metal detectors), and easily conceal them in one's trousers, socks, up the sleeve, etc.

  The real dangerous weapon was THE AIRPLANE!!!!! Taking away my nail file does NOTHING to increase the level of security!!!! What idiots and short-sighted nincompoops are making these decisions and setting these security policies? The logical fallacies remind me of medical practices in the 14th century... based on superstition and coincidence rather than sound reason.

  BTW, I am not trying to scare anyone against flying. Many more people died last year in preventable highway traffic accidents, but nobody is afraid of driving because of it, right? (I hope not). Airport security reminds me of automotive dashboards in the days before airbags: they often looked soft and cushioney, but underneath the thin lair of softness was often sharp metal edges that made nasty damage to collision victim's faces. Current airport security is like those old dashboards. Sure, you think it is safe, but you may be in for a huge surprise.

  I never confessed, although I had precious little to which I should confess.... that was then, this is now, and you will be pleased to know I am working overtime to make up for lost sin opportunities.

  My ex-wife, on the other hand, was a squeeler.... which I suppose isn't the same as a compulsive confessor. She seemed to take great pride in her stories about turning in her "friends" for the various wrongs they had committed. Strange, she could never figure out why they never liked her or hung out with her after that. She really seemed to think that they should have thanked her for turning them in. Surprise, surprise, they didn't like it.

  But she never told the elder's about (gasp) our occasional (and rapidly diminishing in frequency) "oral sex" activities while married...or the oral sex before we were married, for that matter. Funny, once the wedding ring slipped on, she became totally uncomfortable with oral sex ("don't you know how wrong that is?") but she never confessed about it. I guess she just felt if she stopped doing it, she would be forgiven. Unfortunately, she did manage to stop.

  i thought i'd hit it several times before...as i have been thru the divorce over the past couple of years...lost all my so-called friends...lost my belief in what i thought was the "truth"....and now my own loving daughter, being the good little dub she is has told me she doesn't want me to walk her down the aisle at her wedding.

  she told me today at lunch.

  I wish I could think of something to say to help you through this very difficult time, but I am not so gifted. All I can say is do your best to be the "better person" in all of this. Your natural reaction may be to "fight fire with fire" and shut out your daughter, not attend the wedding, etc. However this will likely result in furthering the gulf between you two, and you certainly don't want that.

  You are not responsible for the separation and general relationship unease The Society (TM) fosters, but you can ensure that your actions do not foster acrimony and animosity. If you truly love your daughter, be there for her at the wedding, video the event like it is the most important thing in your world, and she will feel your love.

  Just imagine having a conversation with her in a few years, after (cross your fingers) she is no longer a JW, at least she will be proud of the memory that you were there for her, even when she was trying to theocratically push you away. Maybe your actions could plant the seed that blossoms into free-thinking.

  And no matter what happens, remember that you have friends right here on this discussion board. If you don't believe me, attend an "Aposto-Fest" (if you haven't already) and you will see.

  about a year ago, i decided to drift into a meeting in my old congregation.

  who knows, maybe i thought by doing so my mother would love me again....but anyway - i noticed that there were 5 or 6 of the same "diehard jw" families there but otherwise all the people were completely different.

  it seemed that 3/4 of the congregation left and their seats were taken by a new group of converts.

  OK, here is my problem for JWs:

  (4) Have them secretly become officially associated with their Arch-enemy, the United Nations..... whoops, that one really happend

  (5) Have them secretly come into possession of equity ownership of a company which develops high-tech products that are entirely targeted for military applications... hold the stock for many years, despite knowledge of the bloody nature of the company... whoops, I'm too late there too

  (6) Have them experience a numer of occurences within the organization of the most vile and horrific nature: child molestation. Create a backwards, antiquated policy which tends to leave the victim unpunished, and unreported to police.... whoops, the Watchtower beat me to that one too....

  OK, here is a real one (inspired by World Youth Day (http://www.wyd2002.org), which is coming to Toronto this week:

  (7) The pope is touring New York. He is outreaching to other denominations and is visiting other religious dignitaries. He wants to visit the Brooklyn Bethel and/or Patterson. Do they admit the leader of "Babylon the Great" to their sanctum?

  (8) It becomes fashionable for pacifists to wear there hair long, since short hair is believed to have started in the ranks of the ancient Roman army. Do JW boys let their hair grow long?
