  i have met a wonderful man but unfortunately he is a jw.

  i have never been interested or really ever been around any religion in my life so all of this right now is very fascinating to me.

  i have been thinking of studying to become one but am also having a hard time finding anything on the net that is positive about it.

  Four different talks, four different decades, four different conclusions; and yet all of them "bible based" . Heh heh. I love it.

  This would be especially confusing to Bro/Elder D. Evans, who insisted (and drilled into us at a service mtg): "We do not interpret the bible, the bible interprets itself". So I guess the above exercise would show the bible interpreting itself four different ways! Cool.

  i tend to believe that god does hear prayers, he can ansure them in other planes of time that we don't understand and that we will be in latter in our life or possibly in some other dimension.

  i do not think he gives us dead air space after we speak to him.

  our request have far reaching implications for us beyond what can understand in our time line that we are living presently.

  I think there is some irony in the fact that the memory of Charles *TAZE* Russell, who was an accomplished self-promoter, has largely been lost to history, whereas the legacy of this artist is well known, even today, at least in America. "Oh, that's a Russel" people say when they see his artwork. "It's so beautiful, and visceral."
  
  But when the average person sees "Pastor" Russell's legacy (e.g. someone on the street peddling poorly-researched pseudo-religious magazines) they don't thing of Russell, all they think about is how quickly they can cross to the other side of the steet.
  
  Most of all I feel sorry for PRINTS.COM who keep having their Google-paid-adword appear here on JWD. Everytime someone here clicks the google ad, they get billed. But at least some of that goes to Simon to help cover his costs; so click away!

  i carry a few extra pounds but i generally don't overeat.

  however, i enjoy a good meal.

  but, the organization that says, "let us not judge others" is giving it's members free reign to judge those who are overweight (in the judger's eyes).

  Ah yes, the arbitrary nature of JW doctine rears its ugly head once again.
  
  To choose a few examples:
  
  You could be 200kgs (440lbs), known to have a "big appetite", and be clearly one big meal away from cardiac infarction. And that's OK in Dub-World.
  
  You could fall in with the wrong crowd, and smoke one cigarett, ONCE, and if they found out (and you lacked repentance), you'd be disfellowshipped. Becuase cigarettes are harmful to your health and you have shown disprespect for the gift of life.
  
  Or perhapsh, you can go camping, and sit so close to the fire you are breathing in all that camp-smoke, taking the equivalent of several cigarettes over the course of the night and declare to your dub-friends how much you enjoy the smell of campfire smoke, and they all heartily agree. But if Brother Naughty says he enjoys the smell of cigarettes or pipes, he's told that he is spiritually week and should guard against the Devil's machinations.
  
  BTW, I just saw last night on CBC's "Nature of Things" (http://www.cbc.ca/natureofthings/) that obesity (mostly due to under-activity and over-consumption) is a bigger health threat than smoking. BIGGER than smoking! (No pun intended).

  now you may think i'm a little slow to catch on here.

  this morning was the first time it occurred to me that the jw's use of the tetragrammaton may actually be a huge insult to other faiths.

  admittedly they use a modern day english version of the name of god - jehovah.

  If it was important, the correct pronunciation (assuming such a "correct" version even exists) would have been preserved, especially if it was truly as important as some people say it is. But is was lost to the ages, like an old temple which falls apart through the eons. Oh well.
  
  BTW, what would happen if an elder started a prayer like this:
  
  "Our heavenly father, YAHWEH, we approach you, united as Witnesses to your great name YAHWEH, ....."

  I like the story about Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer better though.
  
  Perhaps I should start a thread analysing that (equally well known and fantastical) story. Maybe something like "Was Rudolph Duped by Santa just because of his (now useful) Red Nose" or perhaps "Expose: The other Reindeer were cruel and evil and used to laugh and call names, those S.O.B.s".

They (JWs) could pull out of France, but I doubt they can pull out of US and servive as a group. I mean, what are they going to do, be the Watchtower Society of Brandon Manitoba? :)
