I remember pondering what "BS Translation" stood for. Of course I didn't dare to joke about it at the time.

We all know the WT prefers the Old Testament ways, figuratively stoning her.
This actually reminds me of three episodes in the Old Testament which they don't seem to have a conflict with, as they have never been explained properly at the meetings:
1. When Samson went to a prostitute.
2. When Josua's two spies spend the night in the house of a prostitute.
And 3. When Judah wanted to stone Tamar after leaving her pregnant believing she was a prostitute.
They seem to be more in tune with the Old Testament's spirit, where apparently men didn't need to be free from sin to the same extent as women for some strange reason.

So what types of people actually flourish under the JW regime?
by Julia Orwell ini sure as eggs know which types don't:.
creative types: to do well at a creative industry one must dedicate a lot of time to developing one's talent, and as a jw one simply doesn't have time.
since writing a story or painting a picture doesn't contribute in any way to prestudy, meetings or fs results it's considered useless anyway.

The same type of people that flourished under the soviet regime: sociopaths.

JW Women Self-0Loathing - Get a Back Bone
by Band on the Run inan earlier thread about pants suits for women led me on this tangent.
women make up the majorty of witnesses.
they cannot be suppressed without their acquiescene.

I think being a witless involves having not much of a back bone, whether you are male or female. That being said, women do have a lower status in the organization, but that is mostly nominally, as in the practice many of them wear the trousers.
Most of them are busybodies and very envious of each other. When you go in the ministry very few are capable of any subject of conversation that does not involve gossiping about someone else's business. I suspect that comes from their being unhappy and frustrated with their own lives, and because the cult does not promote genuine good qualities in people. Also they live in a very small world, and gossipers make very good informants anyway.
I would also say the majority of them have experienced something like this at some point, which obviously does not contribute to well-balanced partnerships and a good self-esteem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kQ2xOHheG4

The Watchtower Writers need to answer this question "Atheism, not religion, is the real force behind the mass murders of history!"
by ÁrbolesdeArabia inhow come the watchtower will not side with christendom and address a topic like the following?
what if christendom had allowed islam to spread it's plunder into europe without a fight and great force?
i direct your attention to islam spreading not as a distraction, but to ask the question most atheist have asked me when we talk of this subject.

Atheism as a movement has a political agenda as do many who promote it, which want an all powerful state (themselves) to take religion's place (particularly Christianity) in people's lives. During the French Revolution destroying Churches and reliques was a big part of the program, as was redefining history in secular terms (they even changed the name of the months) and to impose their view of liberte, egalite and fraternite, hundreds of thousands of people were guillotinated.
During the Spanish civil war, going to mass or to a religious school were reason enough to be executed by the communist side, and thousands including minors were.
Marx said: religion is the opiate of the populace, then what is communism? Communist death toll during XX Century: 100 million people. Religions usually protect and defend life, they don't preach to kill innocents, but political ideologies do.
Whether individual atheists realize this connection or not doesn't change the fact anymore than individual Witnesses realizing or not TTATT.

Strategy game controlling JW religion
by slimboyfat inalong the lines of my previous thread.... .
would it be a cool idea to invent a computer strategy game where you are in control of jehovah's witnesses and you can manipulate various policies and watch the results?
run your own religion.

Appart from the incentive of money, political or social effect, and power over others, high control groups provide a pool of trusting people and a close environment over which the leader/s have a lot of control. The more ensnared someone is, the more ensnared they can eventually become.
The WT works like a totalitarian micro-society. Witnesses trust the organization blindly in EVERYTHING they do, including very personal decissions, and are kept in an infantile state for all their lives unless they decide to leave and pay the consequences.
Having this type of influence over millions of people over the world is not a force for civilization.
That is why knowing who is behind high control groups is a matter of public concern as is THEIR mental health. Tom Cruise once boasted in an interview that they are the authorities on the mind, which raises some disturbing questions when you think about what that means.

"Vindication" book. 1931- anti female rant. With Scans
by BluesBrother inso "women make monkeys out of men" and the common courtesies of civilised society make a man "effeminate".....and that is enough to have a man barred from the kingdom.... (the kj version uses that word in 1 cor.6.9 but other translations apply it to homosexuality).
mother's day is denounced as a scheme of satan to idolize one's mother at the expense of worship to god!.
now it would be easy to dismiss this baloney as just a rant from jfr, but - this is not just an aside on the back page of a magazine or a small article in the "golden age"...no, it is a main study book and is a serious discussion of the prophetic book ezekiel chapt 13....this was the doctine of the time .. i woder how the 'sisters' reacted?

These four pages explain in a nutshell everything one needs to know about the men running this corporation.
I heard once at a meeting that wives shouldn't feel jealous of Jehovah, as if that was possible. Why would they need to compete with Him in the first place? God is the Source of Life, and women are created in God's image, something this retards seem to forget. Respecting them is respecting Life. Men that don't give women their due place and honour, deserve nothing from them.
And this reminds me of Braveheart.

Marry in the Lord
by Rattigan350 inthey do not do a good job of exploring why different people stop going to the meetings and make any improvements.. this is a quote from another topic.
it reminds me of the may 15 2012 study article about marry only in the lord, p 4 para7.
they are not trying to improve their product (the people).

Marry in the Lord means for them marry in the Watchtower, so it follows the Watchtower is the Lord?
Or women as a captive audience.

Jehovah's Witness Gang Stalking - yes or no?
by BackseatDevil inhas anyone had any first hand experiences with this?
i have googled it several times and it seems right up there with big foot and the loch ness monster.
there are stong emotional writings that describe the events of such, but few peole have very much evidence other then videos of (seemingly) random cars and such.. i ask because i was a rather involved member of the organization and have happily been god-free for 15 years.

They are stalkers, and I know this first hand unfortunately.
Even if you don't go to the meetings anymore, they very much want to know how you think and what you are up to and where.
When a series of consecutive "casual" encounters with them leave you annoyed and upset you realize that perhaps they are not so "casual".
The drama two years ago was about two elders on a mission to clear the name of a brother falsely accussed of immorality, and they acted like two detectives, checking facebook accounts, etc. This time was for a good cause, but surely they are just as diligent when gathering evidence to ditch someone.
STALKING the flock seems to be a big part of their job.

Jehovah's Witnesses and informed consent
by JeffT ininformed consent is a common phrase in medicine and related law.
the term means a patient knows all relevant facts and is mentally capable of making decisions about his or her care.
(see wikipedia.com informed consent).

Informed consent implies that you have all pertinent information before you make a decission, otherwise we are talking about a scam.
A few years ago there was no easy access to information about this organization. They just offer you a Bible study, no strings attached, they don't want to change your religion...but once you are in, strong social pressure and the use of various forms of manipulation make breaking free very difficult.
They depend on this type of control to keep people in. If witnesses enjoyed the freedom other religions that they have the cheek to criticize have, they would have no followers at all.
Individuals that scam others are dealt with as crooks, it shouldn't be any different if you are a corporation.
