Finally

after 9 long months of living in a shelter at the y here in ottawa in one tiny room --- .

i have finally got a place to live.. it is small and i will have to get rid of a few things - ok a lot of things but i will have a home again.

it is a small apartment in a seniors residence.

Things are more serious for Ozzie..................

.....................i received an sms from mrs ozzie last night informing me that ozzie is having an extremely risky operation on wednesday morning, 8am australian time.

i can't give more details at this stage as to the procedure due to confidentiality but i can assure you it is going to be dangerous!

mrs ozzie said that it had to be done despite the risk.. so if all of us here could take a moment tomorrow and send positive thoughts.

What are Born-Again Christians going to do if 616 is the # of the beast?

pleasuredome posted a very interesting post about the number of the beast of rev is not 666 but is actually 616. he mentioned that scholars have found remains of old new testament fragments that actually show the number is 616. will born-agains announce that they have been wrong on this for over 2000 years when the apostle john wrote the book of revelations?

i have always thought christians put to much emphasize on the number 666 and trying to make it a real person such as hitler, nero, president reagan, president clinton, etc; i have always felt the book of revelations is symbolic and cannot be taken so literally.

i think many born-agains and other christian group are going to be shocked when they realize that they have been misled by their ministers and religious leaders.

What do born-again christians beleive about the number? We have neighbours who are born-again, but do not appears to go deeply into the scriptures.

Who Was Shocked By the Watchtower UN NGO Scandal?

i'd like to get comments from people about whether and how much they were shocked, surprised, or otherwise bothered by the watchtower society's becoming an associated non-governmental organization (ngo).. note that i'd like to see these comments because they might lead to some interesting publicity, so please comment accordingly.. alanf

Shocked it not nearly strong enough to express how we felt about this revelation. We were still in the JWs and going to all the meetings etc. (32 years in the Organisation) One day our son told us that he had come across this info about the UN+JWs on the internet, and of course our initial reaction was - Oh you can't believe everything you read on the internet. I even thought that some-one had got a letter-headed sheet from the UN and cut and pasted the info onto it - I just couldn't believe it. In fact we telephoned the UN Building (from our home in UK) to ask them, then as if that wasn't enough proof we emailed them, and then wrote a letter to them, each time we received confirmation that it was true. That was the beginning of the end for us.

It probably took one year for us to be absolutely convinced that the JWs were not God's chosen organisation.

Thanks once again to all who enabled this material to come to light.

In our case, it was respectivefully asking questions such as - United Nations involvement and failed prophecies. We never rec'd a reply from either the London Bethel or the Elders in the congregation who promised they would look into the matters raised. We eventually told them that we no longer wished to be know as JWs, (as they would not answer any of our questions) within a short period of time - they sent us a letter signed by three elders. Now everyone shuns us. We only asked questions!!!!!!. By the way, we had been JWs for over thirty years (each 0f us)

NO ONE CAN COME TO THE FUNERAL!!!!

just an update on my previous thread.as you know, my mother in law who is a jw, asked me to conduct the funeral for my father in law.i am disassociated.

apparently, the elders wrote to the society and had a meeting today.

the outcome is that noone is allowed to come to the funeral, not even close friends of my mother in law from the hall.

2005 Barbecue Is Definitely On!

saturday seems to be much preferred over sunday, so this years bbq will be held on saturday, july 9th, commencing around 2 pm.

location is our home in weston super mare.

as usual, the day will be very boozy and proceedings will conclude in the waverley pub.

We have family (non JWS) living near Taunton, Somerset, so perhaps we could stay overnight with them

I can't get to grips with being shunned

my wife and i have been disassociated for about 2 months now.

every day in our small town we are being shunned by former friends.

one in particular annoyed me today.

Hello and welcome Chuckyy and Mrs Chuckyy !

We were JWs for over 32 years and now experience shunning whenever we see ones that we thought were friends, It gets a little better and easier to cope with (but not much easier) as time goes by, we've been out (we disassociated ourselves mainly cos of the UN scandal etc, as they would not answer our questions) I try to treat them as people in general, as if I never knew them, but my husband gets very angry and tends to confront them and force them to speak to him. not always successfully though. Remember that they are in the high mind control cult, and as others have said, they feel that they are doing the correct thing and also are afraid that others may see them speaking to you.

Stay here on this forum, it will really help you, by the way, as you can see from my details we are not too far from you and your wife - Hereford.
