  Homeschooling?

  this is a pet peeve of mine!

  how in the heck can the school board justify turning the education of anyone over to some jacka$$ that dropped out of school to pioneer and makes their living cleaning toilets!

  how can any parent that truely loves their kid not take a good long look at themselves and say "i am not the best teacher for this child.

  Then I enrolled in classes. I had no math training and had to take remedial math but passed them all and went on to take college algebra and passed everything with A's.

  That's one reason I didn't see homeschooling as a long term plan. Who would teach my son calculus? I took it in college 20 years ago but I couldn't teach it to him. My then wife received straight A's in high school science but how would she teach our son physics?

  In our case, I believe it was a good foundation but I'm glad to see him playing school sports and involved with other acvities through the school. Something I believe he'd miss out on if he were homeschooled through his jr. high and high school years.

  I'm not a fan of homeschooling in the sense you described but I have to admit that it works in some situations. While I was married, my then wife did a pretty effective job. She had everything well organized and planned. School started and ended at set times. She homeschooled our son through age eight. When he then went to public school he was so far ahead he skipped a grade, something that is quite rare in this area.

  IMO - homeschooling for those first few years laid a good foundation for our son. But homeschooling as a long term, like through jr. high and high school plan is probably not a good thing for most kids. And for those JWs who are doing it to "avoid worldly association" or so they can pioneer are doing their kids a disservice.

  maybe if there is a god, that maybe he doesn't want us to know who he is?

  why on a daily basis God isn't "fixing" everything because that is the whole point of freedom.

  I never really bought into the whole "freedom" argument. At some point a loving God would have said "hmmmm...yeah, freedom is a good idea for beings that can handle it but these creatures I've made aren't ready for it." When my son turns 16, the plan is he'll take driving lessons and will soon thereafter be driving a car. He will be given a certain amount of freedom. This seems like a good idea based upon the facts up to this point. But if he starts crashing the car every time he drives it and endangers the lives of others (let alone his own), I'm going to step in and "fix" the situation. As his father, that's my responsibility. If we truly are the result of divine creation, God has the responsibility to fix what has been screwed up.

  I guess I haven't seen any evidence of God ever fixing anything. If God created everything, then it is by His actions that deadly viruses came about. But it has been men who have created medications for them.

  seriously i just dont understand the thought process behind what people do at xmas and the holiday season.

  have you ever noticed how negative and stressed out people are?

  i come into contact with a lot of people at work and as a job requirement i have to make small talk with them while taking care of their transactions and services.

  Sorry to hear about your loss. Even after going through a similair "JW experience" when my father passed a year and half ago, it still shocks me to read stuff like this.

  The cruelity done in the name of religion knows no bounds.

  Do You Still Get Afraid or Panicky When You Meet Up With A Witness?

  I never felt afraid or panicky.

  My actions toward JWs when running into them has changed over the years. I wonder if anyone has gone through a similiar experience. When I was first Da'd, I would be very confrontational. It really pissed me off that JWs I had known (and helped) for years acted like I didn't exist. So, being the d*ck I am I would go out of my way to say "hello, how are you?" in a somewhat loud way and make them feel uncomfortable. But after a while I realized that I was just being a jerk toward these poor souls who have enough troubles in life and that I didn't need to add stress to their already crappy life. After a while it changed to "I never want to see a JW ever again" and I went to the extreme to avoid them.

  Pretty much now a days whenever I see a JW, it's no differnt then seeing someone whom I've lost touch with. If they say "hello" I respond with the same. If they want to chat, I chat. If they don't want to even acknowledge I exist, I return the favor.

  there is this packer fan who is married to a bears fan.. he loves her with all of his heart, but just can't get past the fact .

  I've been a Bears fan for as far back as I can remember but it drives me nuts that the third largest city in the U.S (and probably the second largest football fan base) has a team that sucks year after year. Arrrrr!! No wonder my two kids became Packers fans!!

  now forty years to late to turn in a 'book report' i am reading it.

  i see so many parallels to the witness org there.

  Yep, but not just the wt. The us pres: war is peace, the nebulous enemy (the original enemy, bin ladin is forgotten) and a lot of other stuff.

  Does the Fridge still play?Actually i think thats going back a bit too far?I think he played over here for a while if my memory serves.

  Funny thing about it, William "the frig" Perry was the biggest defensive line man back in the '80's. In today's NFL he'd be average. Nothing like a 360 pound dude who can run fast landing on top of you. Ouch!

  London Wasps v Leisester in Rugby Football yesterday..phew,now THAT was a Game and a half!!

  Do they even run in rugby? All I ever see is a group of guys holding each other. In football, that's a penalty.
