  If Rumsfeld would have taken the advice of General Shinsecki and gone in with 450,000 troops to begin with then this war probably would have ended sooner. We have the most professional, highly trained, qualified, selfless and determined military on this earth. They were sent into Iraq without the proper equipment (armor among other things) and without the proper troop strength. The most pathetic and unpatriotic theme that is beginning to unfold in Washington is that the military is at fault for the present condition.

  If Rumsfeld supported our soldiers, this war would probably end much sooner.

  Well put. One HAS to wonder if we had 500,000 troops there (from the beginning) and HAD secured the boarder would Iraq be the mess that it is now. HAD insurgants seen well-equiped U.S. soldiers in force, would they have been so bold as they have become?

  If you want to impeach Bush and Rumdfed for some pie in the sky "oh they did it to enrich their buddies" I think you're barking up the wrong tree. However, if you want to put them on trial for a poorly executed war plan which cost the lives of thousands of soldiers and civilians...hmmm..that would be interesting.

  Sad thing is, looks like the master of this mess, Rumsfeld, isn't going anywhere...

  Does he really think that Obma, Hillary, Kerry or Dean know anymore then Bush, Cheney or any other nationally know Rebuplican what it's like to work 60 hours a week just to make ends meet, worry about affordable health insurance or the rising cost of living? I doubt it.

  Obma...lol...seems like a nice enough guy. Did a "wonderful" job here in the most currupt state in the Union. Eh, maybe it was good training for when he reaches the White House.

  Congregations Closing Down

  i recently heard about a congregation that was "diabanded".

  the publishers were reassigned to other congregations.

  is this happening elsewhere or just a local thing?

  It's amazing. I live in the third fastest growing county in America yet the local congregation is the same size it was ten years ago. No decrease but while the towns in this area have literally doubled in size, the kingdom hall parking lot still has the same number of cars.

  In the past when I lived in suburbs that were bursting in population, it was normal to see a congregation split 3 or 4 times within a few years. I don't see this anymore.

  Makes me wonder how "honest" the WT is about it's annual numbers.

  i have seen the idea floated a few times in some interesting places, but also on threads here.. i think she would get the vote out in a way it has never been gotten out before.

  it would also throw all the pollster's margins of error way out of whack (which might be worth it, all by itself).. why do you think she should be or could be elected president?.

  I'm just a Brit looking in. I love Oprah. Do you think a black person could become president any time soon? I thought Jesse Jackson might have pulled off the nomination some years back - but, alas, no!

  If Powell ran as Bush's VP (and he blamed Bush for the mess in Iraq) he'd the frontrunner for '08. Hell, if he decided to run, he'd probably still win.

  we now have a female moslem classroom assistant who has been suspended from her place of work because she insists on wearing a veil in class.

  bizarrely she works in a church of england school and at the interview wore no veil while being interveiwed by a man.

  For accuracy sake, the announcement is, "So-and-so is no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses." The society no longer distinguishes the disfellowshipped from the disassociated, at least in the public announcement.

  That statement is true. I left years ago but back in the day when I was told to make my first announcement that someone was df'd, the PO make sure that I worded it just as you stated. I'm sure it had to do with A) keeping the Society free of liability and B) limiting charges of slander against local elders.

  I don't know you but when I read posts like yours it just makes me mad. Not that I'd want your son or my son to go off to war but rather I would want them to face their decision like a man, not a coward. They enjoy all the benefits of living in a rich nation but are then told to run and hide when their asked to do their duty.

  That comment is coming from a scared momma. They would never move away. If I could decide for them I would. But I do understand what you are saying and I apologize for my comment.

  Nah, no need to apologize. As the father of a 15 year old boy (who thinks he's a man) I know where you're coming from. Our country honors the men (and women) who make the ultimate sacrifice for their country but often forgotten are all the mothers who weep for their little boys. And on a side note, there is no way the draft will come back. It would be political suicide for any politician and impeachment for the president.

  There is one thing that I have to give JWs credit for during the Vietname War and the draft during that time. If they were drafted they went to jail instead of running to Canada.

  I don't know you but when I read posts like yours it just makes me mad.   Again, I have no problem with someone being opposed to any war and refusing to serve but show some honor.
