Should Elders show concern for the sheep???

a couple of instances in my last congregation - .

1. my wife and i live in an old converted water mill, a couple of hundred yards from the river wye, which has a habit or rising and falling 25 feet in a matter of hours.

one particular bad year the whole county of hereford was almost under water, it was shown on tv with all the fields flooded as the river burst its banks.

Another instance where love and concern was not shown was when a disabled sister was moving house from one area to another, her husband at this point in time was disfellowshiped and he was committed to a full time job.

The sister couldn't even bend to pack her belongings. My wife and I helped her for a few days making this move.

A Ministerial Servant who by "chance" was passing the house, saw that we were helping and "shopped" us to the body of elders.

Instead of having their consciences pricked (helping "widows" etc.) they had words with me. I can assure you that my words were just as hard hitting back to them. I speak now for myself, I am utterley ashamed utterley, utterley ashamed of ever being in the JWs

Elders with STRONG personalities....

there is an elder in my congregation that has a very strong personality.

he drove volkswagens and many bought the same make as he did.

we had another elder back then that drove a dodge aries and another elder who had a peugeot garage and he sold so many second hand peugeots to members of the congregation.

It reminds me of the saying "walk with a person with a limp long enough and you finish up limping yourself,like a crowd .of non thinkers all following the pide piper.

do not be afraid of the elders but let them fear the knowledge you are giving their peers.

there are also a few elders and ministerial servants sick of the nonsense too, so liberate them also.

I understand fully what you are saying - the apostle Paul tried to answer this, saying "..all things to all men". and other scriptures where he was concerned about the flock.

As I stated in my topic, there were ELEVEN elders and in that eleven was the so-called important one - the group study elder - this surely should be where concerns start from. In the normal course of events, this would be a rehtorical question, but this site cannot function on rehtorical questions, thankfully !

A couple of instances in my last congregation -

1. My wife and I live in an old converted water mill, a couple of hundred yards from the river Wye, which has a habit or rising and falling 25 feet in a matter of hours. One particular bad year the whole county of Hereford was almost under water, it was shown on TV with all the fields flooded as the river burst its banks. We were completely cut-off as a consequence. Out of a congregation of 100 Bros & Sisters, just one couple (our close friends) phoned and enquired about our well-being. Out of 11 elders, not one elder could find 2 mins to enquire about our fate.

2. When a long-standing Bro & Sis for some reason decided not to return to the fold, we purchased a card and got every-one to sign it with messages of comfort and to persuade them to return, three elders refused point blank to sign this card and one questioned it after he had signed it, I said to him " shall I cross your name off the card then?" he realised that that would be worse than not signing it, so he allowed it to stay.

These are the so-called Christian leaders who should be showing GREAT CONCERN for all those in their care. Luke 15....

Is this a general thing in the JWs. How many others have heard of similar instances, or was my last congregation just a ONE-OFF !!!!!

Lie detector test

having come across many many lies in the borg, especially from the body of elders that made me constantly confront them.. under the mosaic law they cast" lots" and presumably god provided the answer,we don't have that system now, so why can't they use" lie detectors", to find the guilty ones,.

how many i wonder would still be in office.

Re: Lies WT 1960 .............but if one is not so entitled, we may be evasive

If we are to accept this thinking, regarding being evasive, what part of their message, (that they constantly gave to the Rank & File) was truth and what part was lies?

The dictionary definition of a lie is - "the INTENTION to deceive"
