Hey Joanna, good for you!
I was a latchkey, jw kid, home alone most of the time. My first project to keep me "out of touble" was a knitted argile vest. It actually turned out! I went on to crochet, macrame, did lots of 70's hippy jewelry (that I could only wear to school). I learned how to sew, (so I could make those long skirts for the meetings and service...urgh). Now I only sew household stuff like pillows and curtains, but I miss the creativity outlet. Oh yeah, I went through the cross stitch craze too, I almost went blind doing that stuff....
That quilt look so beautiful...I might get inspired again.
Hey Wind, why is it I just can't picture you crocheting doillies???

Which "APOSTATE" Site Helped You Out ...
by minimus inh2o and watchtower observer were the ones that helped me the most.

It's interesting to trace back the sequence of events...I've changed so much in the last four years.
Of course my daughter's suicide was the beginning of the end for me...but for a couple of years I was just resigned to happily die at armageddon as my personal protest to Jehovah for how his "organization" had treated me and my family. Boy does that sound pathetic to me now...but it was a coping mechanism, it worked to keep me sane.
Then I started searching the internet...came across WT quotes on mediator. I couldn't believe I had missed this important point...then when I showed my husband (an excellent student), he had also missed this point....got us wondering what else we "missed".
Then we read Franz books, many books on cults, then I posted my story on Tim's site. I met many supportive people there. Then I started posting here and have also met many wonderfully supportive people. I no longer anticipate dying at armageddon and I don't think any Jehovah-like creature is responsible for what happened to me. I don't have any formal religious ideas, and except for missing my daughter, I am happier than I've ever been in my whole life.

Why do we age?
by haujobbz instupid question but why do we age, although scientists think it genetic, is it really why we age.. religion says its due to sin.. evolution says what on this subject.
its strange because many yearn for eternal life and thats probably why so many are attracted to religion.. i suppose it could be us wanting to survive, its still strange though because its such a waste .
im confused.

Do you get this upset when a beautiful, fresh picked rose withers, drops its petals and dies?
It's the life cycle, all living things on earth die and recycle, why should we be any different? Because we have a more advanced brain (debatable)? That's JW propaganda...oh a tree can live 200 years and a sea turtle 80 years...so man should live longer.
I'm just accepting this myself, but our youth obsessed culture takes all the joy out of the natural cycle of life, making older ones feel like they are experiencing something loathsome and un-natural.
Just my 2cents worth...

Hi
by trybalance ini'm a first time poster.
i'm not a jw.
my wife has been a jw for 5 years now.

Hi and welcome trybalance...one thing I think no one has mentioned (I admit I skimmed...came late to the topic). INDOCTRINATION, BRAINWASHED, IT'S A CULT!!!!
It sounds like you have not been totally taken in (very good for you btw), but I think most on this board would agree that to one degree or another they were indoctrinated...most from a very young age. Our whole belief system, how we viewed life, was pulled out from under us. No to mention our family and friends that in my case took 35+ years to develop. We didn't have the benefit of your subjective/balanced take-it-or-leave-it view.

Musings on Children, Ex-JW Wars, & Truth
by Perry inmusings on children, ex-jw wars, & truth seeking
i think that children represent a real and credible threat to the wt.
children by nature are inquisitive and require explanations, which requires two way communication.

Excellent post Perry. Thanks for your efforts in writing and posting it. My 21 year old daughter's suicide letter had many of the sentiments you expressed in points 1 - 10. Add to that being in a congregation where most of the kids are leading double lives, and you have a recipe for disaster.

Why because why would you ever think that making a negative comment would benefit anyone?
In Toltec wisdom, first of the "four agreements"...be impeccable with your word. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.
Thanks for the reminder Dragon!

On the Verge of Leaving the Testigos
by Coqui inlooking for suggestions!.

Buenvenido Coqui,
Can you believe I only spoke Spanish till I went to first grade, and now I can hardly read a few sentences in Spanish...anyway, if you have kids, all I can say is leave as soon as possible, anyway you can. If you read my bio you'll see why I'm so passionate about this.
My family choose not to disassociate, but in our position, it is mostly to say "we don't care what your stupid rules are, you have no power over us." I have also verbalized to several local active jws and elders that if they try to disfellowship us there will be legal action. It was only to spare our surviving son mental anguish that we didn't pursue a wrongful death lawsuit...if they push us any little way, we will sue their culos....
I wish you and your family all the best.
