Oprah's been very honest about what she looks like without make-up...I think her hair and make-up people should win some sort of award...she looks absolutely awful without make-up and her hair done. I'm dying to know what she's done to her body, she must have had every plastic surgery procedure available to tone her body up, but then if she can't afford it who can.

Just when you think your mind is fixed
by kenpodragon inthe other day i was doing some shopping at the local mall with my wife, and she wanted me to go next door to this book store and pick up this book for her.
i went in and picked up the book, and went to the counter to pay for it.
the man looked at the book and it was a title that was not exactly something most men buy.

Thanks P(J)...you hit on a big part of my problem...not living in the moment, not being really present.
Another part is worrying that I won't be liked. I like to think I don't give a rats posterior what people think...but it's very complicated. Growing up a minority in many ways...a dark skinned person, a hispanic speaking person, and a member of a crazy religion...I have always tried to overcompensate and prove, hey I'm a really nice person, really, I'm not as weird as I appear.
God, I need to just give it up!!! I'm 46 and know what, I just now feel comfortable enough with my racial identity to wear my hair in a natural style...not straightened to look like everyone else...baby steps....

My biggest jw "hang over", for lack of a better term, is that I have a hard time being myself. I usually have a big smile on my face, am very polite and will bend over backwards to accommodate others. These are positive qualities, but not if they don't reflect my genuine feelings. As a jw for most of my life, I always felt every deed and thought reflected on Jehovah. I thought being very nice and positive would attract others to the religion and reflect the "new personality".
I find I'm confused as to how I am really feeling. When I encounter a negative situation, I react politely, then hours or days later it will hit me...hey that sucked..I should have spoken up!! Being positive/nice all the time is just so automatic...I can't seem to shake it. I know this isn't the worst problem to have, but I feel so fake sometimes...

Events leading to Great Tribulation
by proplog2 ini have believed that the great tribulation begins with some sort of nuclear attack on the united states.. events are emerging which increase the probability of such an event.. the archrivals at the end scene are the us and russia.
russia is in a dire state.
its economy hangs by a thread.

Depression & Guilty Feelings
by Swan ini haven't been posting much lately.
i am sorry i haven't been contributing.
have been experiencing some depression lately.

Dear Tammy,
I am so sorry about your niece. I can totaly relate to how you are feeling, my daughter has been dead four years and I still have days when it just hits me...I'll never see her again. I have many young adults in school with me, and when some have said they are 26 (the age she would be now), it still hits me like a ton of bricks...they are my baby's age.
Guilt and depression are so hard to deal with, but on the other hand, they are a sign of a very humble, kind person, willing to take part of the blame, even though it is totaly undeserved in your case. You did the very best you could, and your rational mind is right, you couldn't have in any way prevented what happened. Grief counseling helped me tremendously. And in your case, you are so kind and generous, striving to make peace with this will open you up to be able to help others. There is no quick fix, the more deeply you are capable of loving, the more loss will hurt. Continue taking care of yourself, and challenging those negative, illogical thoughts. You are such a beautiful person Tammy, you deserve all the peace and joy in the world.
Love,
Sabine

I was on the air today with Dr. Joy Browne
by Bona Dea ini don't know if anyone here listens to dr. joy but i love her show and most of the time agree with her advice.
well, today i grew some balls and decided to call in and ask her what she thought i should do in my current situation (which is probably the closest i will come to seeking professional advice).
i never mentioned the name of the "religious group" in which my husband was involved, but i informed her about some of the things that they believe and how it was affecting my marriage and family.

Dear Bona Dea,
I am so sorry for the pain this situation is causing you, but I applaude the fact that you are taking very seriously how this indoctrination can affect your children. Marriage is still very sacred thing to me and it would take very serious circumstances for me to even think of desolving a marriage. BUT, my 21 year old daughter committed suicide after the elders threatened to disfellowship her and in her suicide letter she stated several times that Jehovah wouldn't forgive her and that she deserved to die. You are not over reacting!! This cult is extremely destructive, but in my opinion, it the children that suffer the most. We have been out over two years, and are still struggling with the after affects with our 15 year old son. Continue to listen to you mother's intuition and do whatever it takes to get your kids as far from the indoctrination as you can.
Warm regards,
Sabine

Hey Beck, that was in the late sixties...they still had "rooming forms" that asked for the race of the householder and the convention delegate...wouldn't want a "darkie" showing up at a white householder's home...lol!!
