skip starbuck: i was about 9 years old.
skip starbuck: and i had trench mouth really bad.
Eman,
Skip Starbuck is Mindchild's yahoo ID. As for what his post is about, it's the pain he endured as a child for being beaten over something he had no control over.
(((Skipper))),
I'm glad that you feel safe sharing this with us. And I'm really glad that you are able to identify a painful experience and talk about it. That's what is so healing!! Hiding those memories, especially from ourselves, is incredibly damaging. Now you can start the process of letting go, not that it's easy or done overnight, but at least it's a start.
s and (((hugs))),

how did you handle the childrens questions when you left he borg??.
were they old enough to understand, or young?.
if older - did they see the same things occuring as you did??.
Hy Lydia,
My son was about 5 or 6, my daughter a year and a half younger, when I left. My daughter didn't really question anything, she was just relieved not to wear 'itchy' dresses and go to 'boring' meetings anymore! My son, on the other hand, questioned me from time to time and I basically just told him that I didn't agree with the JWs anymore and that their way of handling things didn't make sense to me. He was pretty satisfied with that. Now that he's 10, we have interesting discussions about god, life, religion, etc. I try to be as honest as I can with him. Both of my kids ask me periodically about god...I tell them I just don't know. And they're okay with that.
What's really great is to hear what THEY think about god..at the moment, they both very philosophically shrug their shoulders and say:"Who knows?" I've worried from time to time that I haven't given them anything to replace the void left from leaving the JWs, but they don't seem to be suffering any ill effects. Kids have an amazing capacity to reason, when allowed to do so, and so we're on this journey of figuring out a belief/value system together.

and now there is a debate between my father and his sister whether there should be a memorial service at the kingdom hall.. is there a rule whereby an elder who gives a memorial service at a kingdom hall must use the society's outline?
because my father and my grandmother have made it quite clear that he under no circumstances do they want that.
(i'm very blessed to have jw family who do not shun me even with the long hair (yes it is growing back), earring, and, oh yeah, disfellowshipment).
(((Cygnus))),
I don't know anything about the rules, but I wanted to express my condolences to you on the loss of your grandfather.

??
Me, I'm fascinated by what makes people tick...why they do the things they do, feel the emotions they feel, believe what they believe, etc... kinda hard to find a guy interested in talking about such things tho!

ok, let's construct a hypothetical situation.. this year i will not be attending the memorial.
up till now, the elders have left me alone, but not attending the memorial may well trigger a reaction.
one saturday afternoon the door bell goes.
Assault? Probably, but don't worry...I'll bake ya a cake with a file in it

last night while i was at work, my mom came to get the kids to spend the weekend with her.
then chris calls me at work and asks if i will come see him after work.
i go to his house, end up spending the night.
Lilacs,
I can't handle the coldDon't feel bad, we all have things in life we find difficult to handle...for me, it's reality!
Btw...which part of the country do you live in? I often fantasize about moving somewhere that actually has seasons, but it seems the older I get, the less able I am to handle even the little bit of cold weather we get here in Florida. I froze my rear off in Toronto in November!!

surfing around and i came across an interesting site that explains all those little "buzz words" that we love to hate....an example.... in the truth .
the state of being a dedicated, baptized servant of jehovah.
<<how long have you been in the truth?>> <<i have no fleshly relatives who are in the truth.>> (see also {truth}.
Alamb,
I vaguely remember that about the bulletin board...sheesh! What a load o' horse poop!
Ladonna,
Yaknow, revisiting these old terms has left me melancholy and longing for the days when I was a JW...oh, how I miss them.....
