this really happened to me a couple of years ago.
we laugh about it now, but it wasn't the least bit funny when it was happening.... .
the great christmas turkey fiasco of the new millennium.
PS to Farkel: See?? I'm not "Always Nice".
Nah Scully,
I think you were incredibly nice! After all, dear hubby could very well have ended up being the Xmas turkey, with nothing left of him but a few bones I think you were quite nice under the circumstances.
My worst Xmas so far was last year. I got the 'flu, a BAD one, right at Xmas and was in bed for about a week or so...on Xmas day, my ex brought the kids over and I stumbled out to lie on the couch and watch them open a few gifts. I hardly even remember it, I just know that when they left, I went back to bed and I don't think I got up for another 2 days! We were supposed to have gone to my sister's for the holiday...but they were all sick too, so I think we actually ended up celebrating about 2 weeks after the fact. It was HORRIBLE...ugh

Edited to add the quote and the statement that I know I'm not Farkel but I had to respond.

i thought that the best team in the nfl deserved their own thread.

i do not watch much sports at all.
WOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOO BUCS!!!! Er...sorry, sorry, got a bit carried away...(wipes silly grin off face and puts on appropriate solemnity) tough loss today ol' sons...heck of a game, heck of a game. Well, there's always next year, chaps...buck up, what?

until this little guy is back in my house!
woo hoo!.
(he was supposed to be helping grandma pick tomatoes and put them in the bucket--can you see the bite marks in the one he is "helping" with?).
Joanna,
What an adorable nephew you have (and I know what I'm talking about coz I'm an expert on goodlookin' kids ). I hope you enjoy the heck out of Turkeyday with your family.
I'm going to the beach for most of the week so I won't be around much...takin' the opportunity here to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

.
hey get a load of this.
he's only confirming what everyone else knows.... something tells me chretien feels the same way, he just doesn't want to ruffle any feathers.. http://www.cnn.com/2002/allpolitics/11/22/bush.not.moron.reut/index.html
No worries, Teejay...the US obviously isn't advanced and progressive enough to vote a woman into the office of the presidency...yet
BTW...your point is the reason I stated that I haven't the power to screw up a nation.

Ok, setting aside the pro/con Bush debate for just a moment...I have to say that I would absolutely hate to have cameras and microphones following me around and recording every stupid, lamebrain thing I do/have done, of which there are plenty!
I would also die of humiliation if every aspect of my past (and some of my more serious blunders) was researched and made public. Fortunately, I'm not in a position to screw up an entire nation; I only have the power to screw up the lives of me and my kids. That's scary enough!
K...please return to your Bushbashing; as a Dem, I quite enjoy it!

i have small children.
i was raised a witness, so i never celebrated holidays.
now, i don't go to meetings, don't agree that the watchtower is jehovahs sole channel of communication.
Hi Musky,
I can't answer all of your questions, but I'll share what I can. I was sorta in your shoes: raised a witness, never celebrated the holidays, and left the dubs with young children, around age 6 or so. We did celebrate xmas, but on a very subdued scale at first, and it was difficult to know what to say to them about why we were doing it when we hadn't before, and why we were no longer going to meetings. I tried to be as honest with them as possible, giving explanations that were age appropriate, of course, and basically they just followed along as I fumbled my way through developing a new belief system and figuring out how I was going to live my life now that I was able to decide for myself.
I know it's hard, but please remember that it's okay to let your kids know that you may not have all of the answers, and that you may change your mind about things as you go along. Best wishes to you and your family.

well the lovely young sister let my wife know today that only she would be invited to her wedding.
i'm not in the least surprised.
i know she really likes me and that her first inclination was to have me attend regardless of my daing myself recently.
LB,
I've long suspected that you are one of the nicest guys on the board; this post just confirms that! As has already been said, your sincerity really does come through and I think Kim is extremely fortunate to know you and have you as a friend, even if she is brainwashed at the moment. I think most people remember those who truly cared and were kind to them; I doubt your friend is an exception and you just never know when she might be able to see the difference between the real friendship you've shown her, and the fake friendship she receives from her "brothers and sisters".
I don't often wear hats, but this morning I put one on just so I could take it off to you!

i put up my tree tonight!!
i bought another artificial tree.
my old one was getting out of shape.
I wanna put lights up too! But my balance isn't so good, and I'm scared to climb around on the second floor roof. I spent last Christmas in bed with the flu', I don't want to spend this year in traction!

Woohooo! That's wonderful Lilacs Can't wait to see the pics.
We usually get our tree the day after Thanksgiving; I always buy a live tree because I love the way they smell. The kids and I have a blast decorating it; of course, I let them decorate pretty much however they want, so it doesn't have that 'touch of class', but who cares???
I've been slowly amassing some Xmas decorations for the house...last year, I bought a lighted Snowman, who waves, to put in the front window...he has 3 speeds, slow, medium, and fast. Apparently, a couple of the lights burned out and I didn't realize it until one evening when I drove up after dark...the kids had set him on "fast" and ... well...I sat in the car with my sister and we laughed till we cried coz now Mr. Snowman doesn't look like he's waving, he looks like he's ummmmm errrrr, having a moment with himself . I have no intention now of replacing those burned out bulbs
Dana (who has the only masturbating snow man in the neighborhood).
