when i was a young jw i always wanted to have christmas as i always felt i was missing out!
so i convinced my presiding overseer father that we should have a day where we exchange gifts like in the spring or something.
so he thought about it and said that it would be ok and we did this and it was called present day.

I know that I don't respond often but I enjoy reading your posts. I understand your strong feelings about the hypocrisy shown but I have a question: are there kids involved? The reason I ask is that if so, this is the only chance they have to enjoy something that resembles what most other children get to enjoy and look forward to each year. My family started having Present Day (yep, we even called it that too) after we adult children started having kids and they LOVED it! Yeah, I knew it was hypocritical but gawd, we were stifled in so many other ways! It was the only outlet we had for giving to the kids and allowing them to have some type of "normal" family tradition to get excited about--let's face it, the Memorial just don't cut if for kids!
So, I'm just thinking, if there ARE children in your family, would it be possible for you to share in it for THEM, while continuing to explain your excellent arguments to the adults in the family?

I think that Sloan has a point, in that many of us are tired of the battles currently raging. Also, who of us doesn't feel the need to come to the defense of people that we care greatly about? Remember that Bill has other family members who are NOT in the limelight and yet who are hurt by what are seen as attacks on him.
Hillary also has a point, in that people ARE going to discuss and make assessments based on information discussed publicly. I didn't really see the above post as a character assassination, more of an assessment as HS said.
Personally, I have jumped to conclusions and said things in the heat of the moment that I've regretted before. Perhaps some of that is happening lately.

I'm so glad that you have been able to grow and heal; feeling it and then letting it go is the only way to heal but man, do we resist that sometimes! And Sark is WONDERFUL!!! I discovered that book years ago and it helped me tremendously. In fact, I think I need to unearth it from one of the closets and read it again.

id like to hear some *reasoned* explanations for why you believe the bible is gods word.
ive been so fascinated by the study of *real* biblical scholarship since i began educating myself, i now find it incredulous that i used to take the bible as divine, along with all jws and tons of christians, including a good number here.
so id like to entertain your very best lines of evidence that this is the real deal.. mox

Sorry dear, but I really don't know what to tell you. My son is 11 and he and his buds think it's funny too, although he doesn't sound as obsessed with it as your son. At one time he was tho so perhaps your son's delight in it will lessen a little as he grows. In the meantime, I guess just try to pick your battles...if you know you can't stop him completely, try to work it in such a way that he only does it say in his room? Maybe he can have all the "gas wars" (LOL at that term btw) he wants in his room, just not in front of you. But I agree with everyone else that it's a typical boy thing...and one many of them NEVER outgrow!
Robyn, your post made me LOL. You sound JUST like my sister (she's gonna KILL me!); I don't think ANYONE in the universe has ever heard her cut loose; in fact, I'm a little concerned about her internal structure now, as that kind of lifelong 'repression' just can't be healthy!

as many of you know, i'm divorced, have been for 2 years now, after a 13 year marriage.
my ex and i get along pretty well, we're friends of a sort, and we have our kids' well being as our main priority in life.
that's not the weird part..well, i suppose in some ways it is, but that may be a story for another post!.
((((HadEnough))) It's great to see you posting again I've missed you. Thanks for your kind words; I really am glad for the kids that their dad and I are able to get along as well as we do. I can't imagine how painful it is for children to have their parents in conflict all the time
