We were indoctrinated to believe that doing anything to make ourselves happy was selfish. Instead we had to spend our lives making Jehovah happy which meant supporting a printing company. Our minds were abused, this is not reality. Start by making yourself happy and you may find eventually you have a little energy left over to help someone else, but that might not be for a while yet so enjoy yourself. Don't let a crazy little cult dictate the rest of your life.

How do you shut your mind down so you can get a good night sleep???
by jam inthe more i learn about jw's the harder it is.
to sleep at night.
the wife hit the pillow and within 5 min.. she is snoring.

Jam I don't mean to upset you but if talking about this cult is costing you a good night's sleep perhaps you should get off this forum and think about something alse. Sleep is precious, we need REM sleep to help our brains reboot and work properly the next day.
The best sleep I had in a long time we were on vacation(6 mo ago) and in our hotel...
No singing just birds and the sound of running streams and a flute..
The clue is in your words, you need a break. Take care.

Does WT use intellectual intimidation in publications?
by KateWild inwhen i first learned ttatt, i read loads all at once and tried to absorb everything.
then i slowed down evaluated my priorities and took one step at time.
now my kids know ttatt and i have set some goals in life, i am ready to take on my next project in my deprogramming.. intellectual intimidation.

Hi Kate, I agree with Oub that nothing about the WTBTS is intellectual. I do feel though that when you have questions as I did at 16 about the Ransom, I just couldn't see it and later about the seven times prophecy, they treat you as if you are an idiot. Why are you having a problem with it no-one else is? It's very straightforward, what's so difficult about it? That is intellectual intimidation. It's a case of, What, you can't see the Emperor's new clothes! No I just thought he was naked!
It's a good life lesson though isn't it? I keep reminding myself that if I think something doesn't sound right then I do not let anyone twist my arm and make me believe it ever again. That sixteen-year-old was no idiot!

How I Know The Assembly Parts Are Made Up
by lovelylil inwe had a co looking for a certain experience for an assembly part coming up and the elders in my hall at the time sent him to see me, since i usually had good experiences out in field service.. anyway, after speaking with the co, i was sorry to inform him that i did not have an experience that suited the type he needed.
he told me that was o.k.
because he could use me anyway for another part.

Then, the brother asks me flat out if I can fudge it a little by changing the details to suit the part better. I was like No, I can't do that. I can't lie to all those people and have them congratulate me on an experience I never had. He was like, I don't see what it can hurt - Lovelylil
Thanks for bumping this thread VM44. The thing that makes me angry is that we believed that it was very wrong to lie. My pioneer sister lost her part-time job as a secretary because she refused to lie for her boss, just to say over the phone that he wasn't in. Lots of ordinary witnesses have suffered through being honest in their work and then these elders ask people to lie about experiences from the convention platform!

Atlanta Int Convention 2014:The Big Party. Does this look like WT believes Armageddon is coming "soon"?
by AndDontCallMeShirley inhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=potrr2qxhue.
.. if armageddon is "imminent", why is wt focused on sight-seeing, entertainment, travel, etc.
instead of preaching and saving people??.

Dull men in dull suits who can barely put a sentence together! How did I stand being patronized by those idiots? I will never complain that I am having a dull day again! My life now is wonderful.

How do individual JW's justify Jehovah's Old Testament orders to kill little children even babies (amalekites, canaanites)?
by Daniel1555 inin 1. samuel 15:2-3 we read jehovah's order to kill "all" amalekites.
it says "you are to put them to death, man as well as woman, child as well as infant...".
in deuteronomy 2:32-34 the israelites say about sihon.

Further to that, in the congregations I attended, the most common reason given from the platform was that if you kill the adults in a rat's nest you have to kill the babies too because they grow up into rats. That's why babies and children have to die at Armageddon. Charming belief, isn't it?

Have you been Invalidated?
by Londo111 inhttp://www.eqi.org/invalid.htm.
of course, being in a cult and the shunning that comes from leaving it is invalidating.. but how many times have we heard "move on" or "get over it"?
that is a prime example of invalidation.. sometimes this forum, as well as others, can be a mixed bag of validation and invalidation..

Londo I think I got to a point where I realised that I couldn't change the past and I didn't want my life to be wasted in regrets. Too much of it had been wasted already. I've been out for twenty-five years and I never mean to invalidate people who are just leaving when I encourage them to see the world, enjoy life and think about something other than this cult. It's just that human life is finite.
My father always wanted to travel. He was always talking about buying a Land Rover and travelling to Africa, etc. Never went out of the UK in the end! He sat by my mother's bed when she was dying and talked again about this wish and said to me, I suppose it's too late now isn't it? What could I say? I don't mean to be melodramatic but life slips away so fast.
