Sympathy for the (Devil),, I Mean Governing Body

should we feel some sympathy for the governing body?

after all they have taken on thr reins of power over a corporation that has very bad,, dead end business stradagy based on a dellusional idea that the end of the world would come based on dates found or imagined in the bible,, a book about ancient deity worship with all its superstition about what make him angry and mad.. they have bought into this dellusion with their heart and soul,,they stand to loss big time now that the internet is here,, the internet is their satan and his demons on the net are taking aim..

I don't want to defend or excuse them.

I'm just trying to picture myself in their shoes. If they think they are truly God's organization, trying to discern what God wants and then laying down that law to the rank and file... Then when it turns out badly for individuals (e.g. people dying for want of an organ transplant) they must feel, "Oh, that was our best understanding at the time, so even though it appears we were wrong, we have done no wrong. At least we don't believe in hell or the trinity! We're still the best source of light from Jehovah, even though there may be casualties along the way, those people chose to follow us and to give up their lives for Jehovah if need be -- we didn't hold a gun to their heads." Or something along those lines.

It's complete idiocy, but I feel sympathy for idiots too. I would not want to see the GB (or anyone) living in cardboard boxes on the streets of New York. Maybe a low-priced nursing home.

i was deleted as ms some years ago, a brother thought i became an elder.

at the circuit assembly, he asked me if i am elder now, i said yes so the brother told me all of the gritty details about his wife and her sister that got disfellowshipped at the same time.

they went out with the worldly guys and they both got pregnant.

I may be the sole dissenting voice here.

I don't like the GB as a concept anymore than anyone else here, but I do feel sympathy for them as individuals. I knew Bill Jackson personally. He was not a scumbag. He struck me as someone who was stuck in a delusion just like the rest of the congregation. I remember one time when there was "new light" being informally discussed in the KH after a meeting. Bill shrugged, chuckled, and said "We use to say: 'you take the truth from this shoulder and place it on the other,'" and he demonstrated by moving an imaginary object from his left shoulder to his right. It was as if he were subject to the whims of the Society just like the rest of us were (rather than being at least partly responsible for the change). It makes me think that he really believed the new light was coming from Jehovah rather than the committee he chaired.

Maybe he was the only naive one in the GB, but maybe there are others who really believe what they're shovelling. In which case they are to be pitied as victims who are so deluded as to be blind to the consequences of their actions: victims and victimizers at the same time.

It's the 11th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City. The media here in the U.S. are repeating taped interviews of survivors. I have no problem with that; it was a tragedy we shouldn't forget. But I'm disgusted with the U.S. response to the attacks. They have used the attacks as an excuse for 11 years of a vague "war on terror" which seems never ending and which keeps expanding to conveniently include invasions and bombings of ever more countries. Instead, the U.S. should've taken stock of its foreign policy and figured out why these other countries hate them; then made adjustments to become that "kinder gentler nation" they've only talked about.

The 9/11 attacks were motivated by religion and nationalism. The response has been motivated by the same things.

While I commend the JWs for their refusal to participate in war, they do so not out of a hatred for war but because they have allegiance to their imaginary kingdom which they think is soon going to wage the ultimate global war in which they will rejoice at the slaughter of most of humankind.

In my latest blog: War! I imagine a world in which religion and patriotism no longer have a stranglehold on us so that we can live in peace.

by all accounts this video has gone viral on the internet ,generating much discussion as to the appropriateness or not, of this subject in a religous forum for the deaf people,which can also be veiwed by anybody else on the official website , jw.orb....deaf sign language....gods way is love.....scroll down to #22 and their you have it.

why did they do it in the first place.. the bible in christendom is generally accepted as being 66 books in total in protestant circles , catholic , eastern orthodox , etc .have a few more that they may refer to.

these writings are in general accepted as the inspired word of god given to his people over a period of some thousands of years .. in all these inspired writings over thousands of years has their ever been anything specifily stated ,condemning masturbation as a sin or anything wrong about it .. if the almighty god didn`t see the need to comment on the subject who are the wtb&ts to make a video about it .. and lets look at a few facts here:.

I think the controversy isn't so much about the video for the deaf, but just that it wakes us up visually to the fact that these old farts in Brooklyn are pontificating on private sexual practices in the name of their god. We may yawn at the word "masturbation" in a religious article, but when we see someone acting it out, we clearly see what they're up to, and are more inclined to holler: "Hold on there, a minute; why are you laying guilt trips on people for being human?! Why are you even going there? Are you sex therapists now, as well as experts in everything else you pontificate upon?"

It is said that 95% of us masturbate, and the rest are liars. I think we all know where the GB falls in the percentiles.

i've always questioned the appropriateness of the title "faithful and discreet slave" that the governing body so proudly assigns itself.

but i've spent most of my time demonstrating how they've been neither faithful nor discreet.

recently it dawned on my that i'm even more angry at the fact that they call themselves a "slave"!

Contest: Rename that religion!

a while back, whatistruth posted the question: how many bible events can we site that no human has ever witnessed.

i was surprised that no one cited isaiah 43:10: .

you are my witnesses, is the utterance of jehovah, even my servant whom i have chosen, in order that you may know and have faith in me, and that you may understand that i am the same one.

A while back, whatistruth posted the question: How many Bible events can we site that no human has ever witnessed. I was surprised that no one cited Isaiah 43:10:

“YOU are my witnesses,” is the utterance of Jehovah, “even my servant whom I have chosen, in order that YOU may know and have faith in me, and that YOU may understand that I am the same One. Before me there was no God formed, and after me there continued to be none

No one was around "before Jehovah" or immediately after his formation (or whatever you want to call it).

Which leads me to believe that the name "Jehovah's Witness" is a misnomer. They should really rename this religion. I think they should hold a contest to come up with the best name. The prize could be a one-week all-expense paid trip to whichever Bethel ["House of God"] Jehovah is currently residing at, plus an autographed first-edition of Vol. 1 No. 1 of Zion's Watchtower (hermetically sealed behind tinted plate glass to avoid injuring anyone with old light).
So I kicked around such names as "Watchtower Worshipers" and "Slaves of Slaves", and then I think I hit upon a winning entry for sure. I'll share it with you in my latest blog: Contest: Rename that Religion!
