I'm just a little confused here. How can you say that you 'really like them, they are both nice'; after receiving the obscene graphic comments?

Neighbours are JW's - Or are they?
by StarryNight inhi, i've been reading through some of this forum, and it's certainly got more information than anywhere else i've found.
so i'm hoping that perhaps someone here might be able to give me some answers/ideas on a situation that is really puzzling me.. i live in melbourne, australia, with my husband of 12 years, and no kids.
for the past 6 months i've been living next door to my neighbours, unaware that they are jw's.

Well so this is Christmas?
I've just spent the last hour looking over an old photo album with my 13 year old neice. It brought back a lot of old memories, alot of which are buried, but all good. I wasn't born into 'the truth', i was 13 when my mother started studying. I spent alot of my teen years, from 14 to 17 involved in the organisation. I fortunately was never baptised, so when I left the org, there were no binding ties.
Lets fast forward the last 26 years, now it's Christmas 2002. Half my family are JW's, half are not. Looking at the photo album with my neice reminded me of the Xmas's spent as a family before Jehovah came into our life. Every year our parents would have a professional photographer do his art with the four of us kids posed in seasonal setting. This has left us with a scrapbook of Christmasses past. Thus the waltz down memory lane with my neice.
I long for the days when all 4 of us kids saw eye to eye. There is a bridge between the family members who are JW's and those who are not. When I am with my family members who are "in the truth'. I feel like I am an outsider..
The saddest part is: they have thrown out their copies of the old Christmas photos.

Your career is not who u are?
by breeze infor years i started a conversation with ......i am __xxx_____ and i am a salesman for__xxx____!!.
after being fired from a couple of jobs and while being unemployed i realized that i am much more than just a career person....many people get caught up in this.....many when they first meet you will ask, "what do you do" ?????.
i think all of us are much more than just a working stiff.

MY two cents:
Whereas one's job doesn't make you who you are, it is certainly a large indicator. One's choice of career shows alot about a person's character. Your career tells more about you than your shoe size does.
And breeze, if I saw you burrowing in the mud eating worms... i'd guess you were a lawyer.

Not intrested in Christmas
by sleepy in.
i'm just not interested in celebriating christmas.maybe the witnesses had that one right.. if i had children i would probably give presents , just so they don't feel left out , thought not having them myself did me no harm , maybe it made me stronger.but christmas is just one big fake pushed by big businessess, i am not their pawn to be played with.. ok you can have a good laught a few drinks and all that but all the while we are being taken advantage of by the comercial world .imagine the money they would lose if their was no christmas.. can't wait for that big turkey tomorrow though.

I can relate to what you're saying Sleepy. I too have no kids of my own, I come from a family that at present is half witness/half worldly.
Christmas though is one of my favorite times of the year. If you can look past all the commercialism and greed you might find a REAL meaning of Christmas that works for you. I'm an atheist, so Christmas has no religious significance whatsoever. For me Christmas is a good time to get together with family and friends and celebrate the joy of being alive, the joy of knowing there are people out there you truly care about. Christmas can be whatever you make it. For me it's family, friends and love.
