the last survivor of the battle for vimy ridge died yesterday at the age of 103. there are now only 19 canadian veterans left from the first world war.. the only significance in pointing this out is how close at hand the end of the 1914 generation actually is.

there are news reports at the moment going around about a women basketball player that turned her back on the flag to protest the iraq war.

her comments to reporters were that she was: "raised as a jehovahs witness in richmond, calif., she said her mother, fayette elliott, does not acknowledge the flag and raised her children to believe they could choose not to as well.

hi guys i posted on this forum a couple of months ago to find out how many ex jws there are from my region, i am interested to find out how many have left the witnesses and perhaps start a support group for ex jws in our area

hi all.. there was an interesting thread a while back that i have a few things to add to.

i am new so i didn't know if anyone would see a post i would put there since the thread happened a few months ago.

it is going to take a while to put all my thoughts on the subject.

So how would prove the devil wrong for his rebellion?

I'd create man, let him be influenced by the devil. Then I'd proceed to inflict punishment on his descendants for the next 6,000 years. Problem is: how does that prove the devil wrong? Doesn't it prove that I'm an unforgiving, insensitive, egotistical father?

A Big Canadian Apology

we haven't been getting along very well recently and for that, i am truly sorry.. i'm sorry we called george bush a moron.

Does God define "right and wrong" or is there an intrinsic 'good' ?

i don't personally believe in a 'god' but i wonder for those who do .... is there an intrinsic "right and wrong" or moral code that would exist whether or not there was a god?.

to put it another way, is what we believe is "right or wrong" based on whatever god decides is right or wrong (ie.

he set's the standard) or is it an intrinisc thing that he also must adhere to in order to be thought of as 'good'.. if god has to adhere and go along with some intrinsic value system then does this effect any claims to be omnipotent and always good?

What a fascinating topic!! Right and Wrong are concepts that I feel every human develops independant of any thought of a God. It's right to eat your carrots, it's wrong to put your hand on the stove ring. .

Do not commit adultery!! Why?? Not because it's socially reprehensible but Because God says it is a Sin. Do not Steal, Do not Kill, Do Not Covet your Neighbours Arse!! These are all wrongs according to most religions. However, I feel that any society would reach these same conclusions without having to be told by a 'Higher Power'.

People living in a society have to abide by a basic code of conduct in order to survive as a society. When one steps outside this code, they are punished. If there is an intrinsic good, it is motivated by the need to survive.

I think when God was invented, He was instilled with the knowledge gained by generations of social co-existence. They called this wisdom.

i am asking this because i was always taught that the reason there are so many anti-wts sites is because witnesses have the true religion, and are therefore a special target of satan.

satan already "has" the persons in all the other religions, so he doesn't need to whip them up into a frenzy over the lamentable things going on in their particular churches.

satan does, however, use persons (ostensibly, like me) to slander the true god and his organization.

One doesn't need a web site to expose the Catholic church, one merely needs a history book. For years the witnesses have been trying to suppress all negative publicity, much like the Catholic Inquisition. It's funny, the longer they go on the more they resemble the Babylon the Great that they despise so much.

When I left the org. there was absolutely no literature to be found about the WTS, other than that they printed themselves. Modern jw's and ex-jws are lucky to have access to places like this.
