Post 516 of 518 Since 10/5/2009 | I remember that article, and that picture, fear mongering indeed. Today, anyone with an Internet connection can become a desktop professor, pretending to be in the know, without even revealing his name. And there are no rules on who can publish ideas, information, images, and suggestions. " However I find this statement most hypocritical considering we don’t know who writes their books. In religion there are also no rules on who can publish ideas, information, images and suggestions. Suggestions indeed. Think about that for a moment, are there rules in this country on who can publish physical books or magazines. |

Aug. 15th WT - WT Society Dissing Internet Again - All JW's Beware !
by flipper inwe always know when the gb or wt leaders are nervous and worried about potential alleged " threats " to jehovah's witnesses - because they repetitively keep mentioning these perceived " threats " in talks at assemblies or in wt articles constantly.. the " witness only " august 15th wt is no different.
in a non-study article entitled " the internet - making wise use of a global tool " once again the wt society instills doubt and fear into witnesses by " warning " them about use of the internet.
3 " while the internet can provide valuable information, save us time, and serve a useful function, it can also misinform us, consune an inordinate amount of our time, and corrupt us morally.

To Dissassociate or just Fade into Inactivity ? Your Choice ? Reasons ?
by flipper inthis has been asked before, however i thought it may be good for newer members of the board to read some of our reasons on how we decided to exit the jw cult and why we decided to do it the way we did.. first off - i have been faded for almost 8 years.
essentially i decided to fade into inactivity and not da because i have elderly jw parents who would shun me if i did get dfed or daed myself.
also- i like keeping open the possibilities that some of my many jw relatives may in time start doubting and have questions and reach out to me in my inactive state.

Fade, facilitated by moving out of congregation and circuit territory.
Sending a letter to DA, in my mind, would indicate that I accept their authority and heirarchical structure as legitimate. I don't recognize their authority or heirarchy as valid and I will refuse until my dying breath to convey otherwise to them.

The Most bizzare & Scariest thing happened to me last night
by dm6 inhello everybody.. i wanted to share something with you all about something that happened to me last night.. i usually get these things called sleep paralysis, which is where you are alseep and you wake up and you think, oh ill get up now or soemthing, so you go to get up and you cant.. your actually paralysed.
but the strange thign is your awake....?
its very very hard to explain.
-
Scully
It sounds extremely unsettling and disturbing for you. That it takes up your energy during waking hours indicates to me that it's time to get it investigated.
Have you discussed this with your doctor? You could have a neurochemical imbalance that alters your sleep cycles - something that the right medication can help.
You might be interested in a book that I'm reading called Change Your Brain, Change Your Life by Daniel G. Amen, MD - he discusses all kinds of dysfunction that arises from altered brain chemistry. He has done imaging of patients' brains to demonstrate the effects of conditions like ADHD, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and so on and has been able to successfully treat people based on their brain activity.
I hope you get some answers - and a decent night's sleep - soon.

How much does it really cost to run an Assembly Hall? Real data.
by Paralipomenon inin canada, any corporation registered as a charity is public information.
i occassionaly browse them to see what's going on, but i wanted to give some updated data.. http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/chrts-gvng/lstngs/menu-eng.html.
if you are curious, you can type in jehovah, or assembly or circuit to get tax information (including donations and expenses) for all of them.. for their assembly halls it shows much of what has been already told.

Each Congregation™ and each Circuit™ are unique entities in Canada for the purposes of being regarded as a charitable organization.
I had fun a few years ago looking through the list to find which ones had failed to file an income tax return, and had lost their charitable organization status as a result.

A concerned JW wrote "mistakes will happen."
by InterestedOne inin the thread http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/213523/1/feeling-a-bit-alienated, concerned jw wrote:.
mistakes will happen.
concerned jw, if mistakes will happen, i was wondering what mistakes you feel the jw organization is currently making?

There's no point in following the directives of imperfect men.
Even the bible says that.

Why do exJW family members not reach out to other exJW family members?
by truthseeker ini don't know if this strange phenomenon is unique to my family but it seems that those who have left the truth have little to no interest in reaching out to those family members who have also left the religion.. it seems topsy turvy to me.
surely, there would be common ground and mutual support for those leaving/have left but this does not seem to be the case.. does anyone else have this problem?.

Reconnecting can be pretty awkward. I reconnected with relatives who never became JWs after we left, and believe it or not, my first attempt at reconnecting was to send Christmas cards to all of them. We included a brief message that we were no longer practicing the JW faith, but could not completely cut ties with the religion in order to maintain the relationship with our JW relatives.
We received a bunch of Christmas cards in return, all of them saying they were thrilled to have us back in their lives too, and that they understood the precarious situation with the JWs relatives.
The ones I totally don't get are my raised-JW-but-never-dunked siblings. It's like pulling hens' teeth to maintain a relationship with them, and I'm at the point where I really don't care for being the one doing all the work.

Husband stumped his pioneer mother the other day.
by TweetieBird inmy mother-in-law was hounding my husband the other day about our spiritual standing.
conversation led to "the light gets brighter".
he said if that is the case then maybe the light gets brighter for other religions as well.
-
Scully
The light hasn't gotten brighter for the JWs in terms of setting up soup kitchens, hospitals, homeless shelters, etc. because they've existed in a black hole for over 100 years. Any light they receive is a wandering spark that they can't wait to snuff out.

Should conscientious objectors to gay marriage be allowed?
by rebel8 inprevious, related thread: ny catholic church on new gay marriage law.
gay marriage is finally legal in my state.
let the next wave of ignorance begin!.

Let's be clear - the employee in question is NOT an officiant, participating in the exchange of vows between the same sex couple.
She is issuing a slip of paper that legally permits the couple to marry, officiated elsewhere, on another date. Would she deny a homosexual a driver's licence, knowing that sometimes homosexuals drive to places where homosexuals meet and sometimes hook-up?? Would she deny a homosexual medicaid applications, knowing they have a higher risk of HIV/AIDS? Would she deny a homosexual the ability to pay their property taxes, since she has some idea of what goes on in the bedroom of their house??
It's none of her business to discriminate against anyone. It may be what she believes, but she has no right to impose her beliefs on others, causing them inconvenience in processing a rightful, legal transaction.
