i am hoping to start an interesting and substantial chat on the topic of evolution and creation.. .
i have read up on the subject for some years now.
i have no doubt whatsoever that.... we were knowingly lied to.
I saw very clear evidence that the WTS had committed some serious breaches of academic integrity by twisting quotations from scholarly works to suit its agenda.
Alan F compiled an entire list of such offences related to the Creation book, and I felt that it was my responsibility to (a) completely dismiss anything the WTS ever taught in that regard, and (b) learn about evolution from the people who have studied it and compiled the evidence upon which their science is based.

Do you really want your son's indoctrination sessions with his grandmother to become part of the WTS's annual statistics?
I like the idea of introducing your son to the pantheon of gods. Roman, Greek, Hindu, Celtic, and so on.
You and your wife do need to establish boundaries with your MIL. You don't have to be mean about it, just say that it is your responsibility to teach him about religion. Stress that you want her to enjoy her time with your son, rather than feel compelled to preach to him. Provide him with story books that you've screened to take with him to grandma's house, and the rule ought to be that stories are ones you've approved, and that he's selected, not ones that grandma picks.

hi, i was reading on here a while ago that some of you guys and girls suffer from panic attacks.
how common is this in the jws?
the wife had a bible study today and i was sort of listening looking for a discussion point.
I started having anxiety and panic attacks with postpartum depression after my youngest was born. They often happened at Meetings™ or while in Field Service™, and naturally the Elders™ assumed that my illness was because I was Demonized™ not because of an imbalance in my brain chemistry. They even sent someone to my house to scope it out for signs of Demons™ (without my knowledge or consent), and had that person pretend they were visiting out of concern for me. When I found out, I was outraged and seriously offended. Of course, that played right into their little mindgames about Sister Scully being Demonized™, because nobody in their right mind would be offended over the Loving™ Provision™ of a home-Demon™ inspection, now would they??
It certainly didn't help my anxiety or panic attacks either. I mentioned this incident to the psychiatrist I was seeing at the time, and his recommendation was that I needed to find a different church. LMAO
My eldest child was reading before the age of 4. In kindergarten he was invited to do a reading of Thomas' Snowsuit by Robert Munsch at a school assembly. One of the Elders™ overheard us talking about how excited we were over this invitation, then came up to us and basically told us that if he could read a silly kids' book at a school assembly, then he should also enrol in the Ministry School™ - you know, to keep things "balanced". We let him do a single bible reading, and he never wanted to do another one. In fact, the experience turned him off doing anything like it again. Blessing in disguise, I suppose.

I've been told by a JW apologist on a nursing website that the article in question is out of date. Having said that, there have been no clarifications, no New Light™ on the matter, and certainly no retraction on the part of the WTS. Oh yeah, she also insisted that I have "an ax to grind". LMFAO

well, well....i know that you have your turkeys, and your pumpkin, or pecan pies, and i know that you had your family over and all.. but, you really aren't celebrating thanksgiving, are you?.
We used to go to non JW relatives for Thanksgiving weekend. Someone had a wedding anniversary around that time of the year, and that was how we managed to avoid getting in trouble with the Elders™.
Then again, I knew some JWs who would do a big turkey dinner and have lots of guests over on Thanksgiving weekend. The long weekend made visiting out of town friends and relatives quite do-able, and well, turkey is on sale and feeds a big (but not "great") crowd so why not?

last week wednesday at about 11:40 pm, on a cold and rainy night, my uncle breathed his last breath.
he was at hospice and he was alone.
alone because the whole family was there the previous night saying their goodbyes.
