given that the new light about being approved and appointed over all things is now a future event linked to the gt trib, was it correct to teach these things about brother barr at his funeral service?.

Guys, calm down.
The original news report was from 1998 - so 15 years ago. It must have been reposted in January of this year on the site I found in the OP. I was also confused by that post saying the abuse occurred when the victim was between the age of 4 - 6 in the 70s, and was 'currently' in his 20s. Once I dug a little deeper and found the conviction was in 1998, then it all made sense - except for the part about the molester claiming he was wrongly accused and just "too affectionate."

I made a huge mistake

Some men choose submissive women and a certain belief system because it allows them to be abusive and get away with it. Being submissive is a choice. Putting up with abuse is a choice. Whether you believe it or not, he is abusing you financially and with his religion.
You both took vows to love, honor and cherish one another. Abuse is not part of the package in any way, shape or form, and that includes the dysfunctional 'giver' and 'taker' dynamic you have. It's called co-dependence.
Just an FYI. It may not be important for you to address at this point in time, but it was important enough for you to take on unneccesary guilt feelings when he took a hissy fit over the cross you bought for yourself, and then come here to want other peoples' input. I'm just saying that respect is a two-way street in a marriage, and what you give to him in that currency, he ain't giving back at all. That may become a burden for you later on, and when it becomes intolerable, please know that there is help for you.

According to this discussion board, the original article was published in 1998, and the offender was 74 years old at the time. Hopefully the bastard's dead by now.

I'm not sure. It's from January, 2013, and the site says the offender now lives in Peterborough, ON. I'd be curious to know whether he's participating in the Door-to-Door™ Preaching Work™, or whether his current Congregation™ is aware of his conviction.

EX-CHURCH ELDER SENTENCED FOR INDECENT ASSAULT ON BOY

A former Jehovah's Witness church elder was sentenced yesterday to one year in jail for indecently assaulting a young boy in the late 1970s.
But Wesley Hubert Mills, 74, will be able to serve his sentence in the community.
Provincial Court Judge William McCarroll decided to impose a community-based sentence after a lengthy recess and a long explanation of the concept.
That will allow Mr. Mills to serve his sentence in Peterborough, Ont., where he now lives. At the time of the incident, Mr. Mills was a respected church elder in Saint John. His victim was a young member of the church, who was between four and six years old at the time of the assault.
Although Mr. Mills was convicted on a similar charge in Hampton in 1992, he maintains his innocence, saying that his only problem is being too affectionate.
Judge McCarroll was very blunt with him during sentencing. He said he didn't buy the explanation.
He said he was convinced that Mr. Mills assaulted the young boy deliberately for his own sexual pleasure.
Even so, the judge said he doesn't believe that Mr. Mills is a danger to the community anymore.
The victim, now in his early 20s, testified last month that he had been unable to tell his family about the touching because of Mr. Mills' respected position in the religious community.
After Mr. Mills was convicted in 1992, the victim's mother asked if there was anything that was troubling him. He told the court he was unable to tell her what happened.
It wasn't until last July that he was able to tell his parents that Mr. Mills had sexually molested him.
As a child, he thought his parents knew about the abuse and condoned it.
Mr. Mills had assured him that the sexual touching was something everybody did. The victim said it didn't feel right to him, but he did not believe he had the authority to question a man everyone held in such high regard.
Yesterday, Judge McCarroll said he believed the children in the church would have done anything Mr. Mills asked of them.
They were taught to respect their elders, particularly church elders.
The judge also praised the young man for his courage to tell his story.
He wished him luck and hoped that he was able to put the ordeal behind him. -

In most businesses, whenever a meeting is held, an agenda with details of resolutions is provided ahead of time so that people can understand the issue, the financial commitments or whatever they are expected to agree to. It gives people the opportunity to do some research and formulate questions that come up before actually going to a vote.
The WTS doesn't do things this way because (a) most JWs don't know how "normal" businesses operate in the first place, (b) they don't want anyone questioning their 'resolutions' - they just want trained seals to put forth a motion, second it and then put it to a vote. And then all the trained seals get to clap at how clever they are.

You can tell him "Some people say things are real when they're just pretending." Playing make believe can be fun, and a lot of parents like to play pretend with their kids. If you'd like to do that, it's okay.
The Thinking Atheist podcast had a great interview with Dale McGowan several weeks back on the topic of secular parenting - it would be worth spending 90 minutes or so to listen. McGowan is the author of Parenting Beyond Belief and has a website by the same name. Dale tells a great story about how his son figured out that Santa Claus was "the moms and dads!!" He allowed them to think about these questions on their own - understanding that the desire to believe will eventually be trumped by the need to know, and then goes further saying that these myths and allowing a child to work it out for himself is like a trial run for the myths that religions sell.
