Reddit thread Warning young JWs that ‘Spiritual Goals’ are Not a Career!
by LongHairGal inas somebody who worked full-time when i was in the witness religion, this topic naturally caught my eye.. many of the responses are heartfelt.
there are about 90 at this point.
from what i read so far.. many are people who woke up before they got old but even these are resentful over their life being derailed with wasted time pursuing spiritual goals and having to start over at a later age getting an education/job.. i imagine born-in young jws would be most susceptible to this.. in today’s world, a ‘career’ is something that earns you a living.. as many of the responses there will say: anybody who pursues ‘spiritual goals’ only will end up with wasted time in the end with no money and no retirement plan… i couldn’t agree more.. it would be a shame if this happens to yet more jws..

I was around 30 years of age (early 90s) when it was reiterated that it would be the job of Armageddon™'s survivors to clean up the earth and turn it into a Paradise™.
My mom-brain thought this was a HUGE crock of $#!t, and I said so. "Why the hell should 5 or 6 million people be responsible for cleaning up the gigantic MESS that Jehovah™ made of the earth and all the bodies he racked up?"
I'd had my fill of always cleaning up after a husband, a young kid, a toddler and a newborn, and was just OVER IT. I said "If he can so easily cause the destruction of almost everything on the planet, he could just as easily wave his hand and make it all the way he wants it. It takes YEARS for an entire country to almost restore itself after a natural disaster, how long do you think it'll take for small groups of people over the entire globe to fix that mess?" This whole idea seemed nothing short of unreasonable and irresponsible on Jehovah™'s part.
That was one of my first "revelations" (wake up call?) that this was not The Truth™.

What was really going on with Abel? Does anyone find the story of Cain and Abel screwed up.
by liam inever wonder about the story of cain and abel?
why did jehovah like abel's sacrifice more than cain's?
maybe there's a subtle reason why jehovah likes animal sacrifices.

If you were to look at this through the lens of the people who recorded these "events", you'll see a kind of hierarchy where supposedly wealthy individuals had herds of cattle, sheep, goats, etc. that are more expensive to maintain, and the lower rung people had to grow their food, and gather the fruit, vegetables and grain, things that would have been fed to the animals being raised by the "wealthier" people, as well as what fed their family.
Since it isn't actually real, we can assume that "god" preferred the offerings of animals because their inherent value was related to the amount of resources required to raise those animals. "god" was specific about the types of animals that were acceptable: they could not be damaged goods or of lower quality (sickly or small or weak), so "he" demanded only the best, and what was fed to animals to nourish and make them healthy and robust would likely be regarded of lower value, even though the labour involved in growing crops and harvesting them was just as valuable as the labour that was involved in raising animals.
Also likely was that a lot of the labour involved in farming might have been done by women and thought to be of lesser value than any work done by men.
Remember we're talking about a "god" who wanted the sacrifice of the foreskins of infant males on their eighth day of life. Kind of a psychopath imo.

Did the WT Policy on Lying Bother You When You Were a JW?
by Sea Breeze inhere's the wt standard for lying: "while malicious lying is definitely condemned in the bible, this does not mean that a person is under obligation to divulge truthful information to people who are not entitled to it" - insight pp.
244-245. vs. websters dictionary:.
lie, noun.

Rattigan350:
And the problem with this is what?
Well, who decides who is "entitled to" truthful information?
Also, what if the GB decides that R&F JWs aren't entitled to truthful information? Personally, I think that's already the case.
Do you like the idea of someone being purposefully dishonest with you, with the intent of deceiving you into doing things you wouldn't otherwise do?
SeaBreeze:
This passage in the Aid book was exactly what started me on my journey out of the JWs.

Can someone remind me the reason's you could be disfellowshipped?
by SydBarrett inthe only reasons i can remember are smoking, sexual immorality and of course, apostasy.
there must be others but having been out since 1990, i'm drawing a blank.
i was thinking perhaps serious criminal offenses that result in prison, but then i remembered a brother in my congregation in the 1980's who went to prison.

The MAIN reason why anyone is DFd, has little to do with the sin, but how contrite the sinner is. If they recognize their wrongdoing and want to restore their Relationship With Jehovah™ and beg the Elders™ to help them do so, they will likely get off with Private Reproof™ if nobody else was involved in the sinning (so, smoking, drunkenness, for example) or Public Reproof™ if there were other individuals involved (sexual intimacy before marriage, theft, embezzlement) PROVIDED that it has not become "public knowledge".
If it involves CSA, the parents are responsible for reporting incidents to the Secular Authorities™, but it has historically been discouraged so as avoid Bringing Reproach On Jehovah™. If it goes to a Judicial Committee™, the perp usually denies all allegations and the child/parents are labelled as Slanderers™ and treated like the scum of the earth. I would hope that this pattern would have changed by now, but pedophiles are notoriously good at sucking up to Elders™ and avoiding any restrictions being imposed on their ability to connect with targeted kids.

Blood decisions are now your problem: WT JULY 2025
by raymond frantz inthe following is from the latest study watchtower july 2025, study article 28, paragraph 17:.
each christian must make up his or her own mind about whether to accept or to reject these fractions.
we may find it a challenge to understand this matter fully, but making decisions like this is part of the load that each of us must carry.

Thirty years ago, when I was on my way from being PIMI to POMO, one of the things that disturbed me most was that had I been in a situation as a minor where a blood transfusion was necessary to save my life, both of my parents would have refused on my behalf and sacrificed me on the altar of the WTBTS.
By the time I was transitioning out of the Organization™, I already had my children, and was so grateful that I would never have to make that decision, because *THEIR LIVES* would have come first and foremost.

I think one of the bigger flaws in a lot of religious/church groups is the tendency to refer to one another as Brother™ So-and-So or Sister™ Such-and-Such. It blurs the lines (boundaries) of who is actual FAMILY and who is not. People who are wont to prey on children are thus enabled by this blurry language that evokes closeness, even when it isn't warranted. People - children in particular - want to protect "family", and certainly the WTS encourages that in its Insight on the Scriptures entry on lying (ie, Theocratic Warfare™).
While malicious lying is definitely condemned in the Bible, this does not mean that a person is under obligation to divulge truthful information to people who are not entitled to it.
If a child has to choose between going to the "scary" police and denying that anything bad happened to them when they were with Brother™ Handsy or Sister™ Creepy and one choice is going to Make Jehovah Sad™, it's not a far reach as to what that child might do or not do to keep a semblance of normalcy in their lives.

Making Friends with Babylon the Great: Watchtower’s New Goal
by raymond frantz inhttps://youtu.be/iv_uifab-qg?si=ttnajiuizmtqlte9.
it began during the last annual meeting of 2014 and now is trikling down to their watchtower magazines, this new "live and let live" attitude towards people of other faiths, or as they were known as babylon the great soon to be dead in the hands of god members.but it is a new different story, so let's read paragraph 15 from study article 15:.
"jehovah is kind to both the righteous and the unrighteous.

I wonder how much of this "change of heart" has to do with the lawsuits brought against governments who want to yank funding from the WTS based on its previous claims of exclusivity?
If they say that all religions are worthy of kindness and tolerance:
#1 - they probably get pinkie points from governments for not (openly) inciting hatred of other belief systems;
#2 - they make themselves look like decent human beings;
#3 - it may attract more people, and conversely, retain membership which has been hemorrhaging for the last couple of decades;
#4 - there is no incentive to Witness™ anymore (why bother? if they're all worthy of Jehovah's Kindness™, even Satanists deserve tolerance)To me this all smells of trying to keep the governments from yanking per capita funding from their bleeding coffers.

Over the years there were 3 molesters in the KH where I grew up. Two males, one female. One targeted me, another went after my brother, and the third targeted my sister.
Nothing happened to any of them, and nobody believed me when I tried to stop the first one.
